Scanning for Resources

I didn't mind scanning for resources to do upgrades but it seemed like I spent just as much time doing that as I did doing quests and it got a little tedious and boring. I was hoping that ME3 would allow us to buy/sell/trade resources, maybe like in Illium or a major outpost or city. maybe have a kiosk set up at various places to do this. I always seemed to have a boat load of Palladium but never enough platinum. Or maybe they are just deleting the need to scan for resources completely.
Anyone have any ideas or confirmation on this?

1.) Allow us to carry over resources from ME2 to ME3 in some fashion. A great many people are going to have leftovers from ME2, after all.
2.) If resource scanning is as intensive in ME3 as it is in ME2, provide extra UI info about how many resources are left on a particular planet. Personally, while I feel they should keep the Depleted --> Rich distinction of a particular planet, having another means of gauging the amount of resources left on a planet would be immensely helpful. (For example, an indicator suggesting you've harvested ~95% of a planet's resources and also that it's Depleted.)
The latter may run into story issues, though, since you technically can't know what percentage of a planet's resources you've scanned until you've actually scanned the planet, but it would be a boon so far as gameplay goes.
Bioware still has almost a year until ME3 comes out (due in no small part, I'm guessing, to internet curmudgeons bashing DA2 with or without good reason...). Resource management would go a long way towards tweaking the game to make it just right, unless a BW employee would like to drop in and provide further enlightenment as to what they're actually doing with resources in ME3.

I just hope it's not as monotonous as resource scanning
and annoying as driving a make for half an hour because of all the god damn mountains.

Trading of resources, have merchants on each main location where you can buy, sell and trade resources. Only have 9,000 platinum but 100,000 Iridium? Trade some Iridium for some platimun. This also relates to a lot game players basic greed instinct for credits.

No PS3 save editting that Im aware of as yet. Best you can do is keep buying intel from Liara's ship in LotSB on resrouce rich planets, and drain them dry.
Damn, I've been doing that for a while now.
I hope mining isnt as boring or not as necessary in ME3, it's so goddamn annoying not being able to afford every upgrade.

Shep: " EDI would you please scan this planet for mineral deposits"
EDI " of course commander"
Shep: " Great, I just go get a cup of cof-"
EDI: " -Scanning complete commander "
Shep: "That was fast! - I should have thought of that ages ago"
EDI " You should"

In my opinion they just needed to make a few small changes to make the planet scanning more palatable.

I agree, I would think it wouldn't be that hard to set up a kiosk at major cities , maybe set up a exchange rate or something, since Eezo is harder to find than palladium, maybe make it 3 palladium/1 eezo or since platinum seemed to be rather scarse make it 3 palladium/1 platinum. It wouldn't have to be really complex or anything, just an opportunity to engage in the galactic economy , in more than just buying stuff. I never had much of a problem with having enough credits, just having enough resources to do upgrades.
It might also be nice if when you start the planet scan (when it brings up the planet name and lore of the planet, size and other info about the planet) that you can tell the amount of each resource avaialble on that planet, I spent alot of time scanning planets to find platinum and most of what I found was Iridium or palladium, which ticked me off for wasting the time scanning a planet that didn't have very much of the particular resource I needed. They don't have to be specific about how much of each resource is on the planet, but an idicator like : rich in palladium, good in Iridium, poor in platinum, or something like that, would be nice and cut down on time spent scanning planets that are not going to net you anything that you really need. Not everyone has LotSB to get the mining results. Trading/buying/selling resources would also solve this problem.

Don't see any scanning options but then again this was the E3 demo they showed.

Unless we won't have the option to scan for resources on a species homeworld, it's the only thing I can think of as to why there is no scanning option on this image, if scanning for resources is still available in ME3.

This seems to indicate that we'll be going to multiple locations on the same planet. Which is of course awesome. But as far as scanning goes, I think they may end up doing it like a cross between ME1 and ME2, where you scan for a drop zone or two, pick up minerals along the way, and drop in the Hammerhead which has been upgraded and now picks up a ton of minerals with each scan. This is in addition to the actual mission. Of course, there would likely still be planets that have no mission, and just minerals, but those would be largely optional.Vertigo_1 wrote...

At least, that's how I would do it.

The only real issue that I had with scanning in ME2 was the cost of the resources needed. The rarity of certain resources was a nice touch but just the over all amount made it feel more like a necessary chore. I would have liked to have seen the option to pay more for an upgrade or use less from resource minerals. That would have been a great balance and it would have given two options on how one acqires an upgrade. The SR2 was a huge vessel capable of holding at least 100 probes so that when you scanned in a system, you weren't always wasting and depleting fuel just to restock probes which also meant refueling, burning through credits.bigSarg wrote...
I was wondering if anyone has heard anything pretaining to scanning for resources, I think I heard that they are changing it but haven't heard any confirmation.

I haven't heard anything concrete about the need to scan other than it hasn't been removed completely. It would just be nice if BW found that equal balance between gameplay and what's actually needed from a resource stand point that doesn't interfere with the game play.
