agreeing upto that last bit, you can actually ask him to join you, presumably the same way avernus joined you in wardens keep, but he says something along the lines of i don't wanna fight i'd rather help in some other way, he really did seem to chicken out at that point, but he could have fled and didn't ultimately so i overlooked it

Ahh. Well, to be fair, he's been tortured and rotting in a jail cell for weeks.
I dont think hes in any condition to fight.

Hearing that this guy would played a bigger role in the quest makes me wish I hadn't summarily executed him when I found him in the jail cell...

Bioware did take Shale out of the main game... due to time constraints. And if you think about it, it's a delightful way to make money off of used copies and make back some of what would be lost to piracy. That's why she's conveniently already woven into the story.

Though, I don't think Jowan would be any better or worse than you other origin companions. Maybe give each origin the option to re-recruit their old buddies should they live? i'd jump at the chance to quest around with Shianni and Soras.

Other options could be a warrior who focuses on dual weilding or a mage who specializes in one of the darker magic schools you can pick spells from. Thematically, Wynne's all about Creation and Morrigan is all about the elemental stuff

Is not not entirely possible that maybe, just maybe Shale was intergrated seperately, after the game was finished? Now im not saying this is true or it's not. I don't know and neither do you. So don't talk as though you do, unless of course you have proof. Which, im assuming you do not. The only people that would know for sure are Bioware. And do you think they could confess to it being true if it were? I don't

One more thought. If it was done as a plot to make money, why were new copies of DA:O given a free promo-code for "The stone prisoner" for free?

And yeah, i think Jowan would be an excellent idea. Bloodmage isn't covered by an of the current party members. Though, i doubt i'd use him myself. Truth be told i think he kinda sucks.

Joining in with the Jowan fandom crowd.

He could have been a great shy/reluctant personality companion.  I could see him having party banters where Zevran is trying to flirt with him or something and Jowan getting REALLY REALLY uncomfortable.

I could see another DLC using Jowan as the intro point.

It would be neat goto Aeonar.

He would be the most influenced character in the game, lol. He's a tool, but I would like to see his character built up more. I felt so bad when I couldn't release him, he was mah friend :'(.

What we need in this game is more of Bann Teagan, Ser Cauthrine, and  Gorim.

(Emphasis mine.)

I find your ideas intriguing, sir, and I wish to subscribe to your periodical.

course the thing i'd have the most issue with is wynne and alastair, both despise but barely tolerate morrigan who is an apostate, jowan is a maleficar both will outright leave, or try to kill him forcing you to choose, and one scene of alistair spitting the dummy and forcing that kinda choice is enough for me in one game i think

It's interesting mainly because there was a time when Jowan WAS supposed to be a joinable party member. He initially was a temporary party member that you could take with you when you found him in Redcliffe, though he wouldn't leave the castle at any point. Later we decided to expand his role into a full party member, so you *could* take him out of the castle and then invoke the Right of Conscription when you spoke to Arl Eamon.

As such things go, we just didn't have the room to add another character onto the pile. So he had to be cut (the permanent part of him was never done, the temporary party member thing was cut later on). It might have been interesting to have a Blood Mage who was also reformed and trying to be a good person -- though maybe someone you could also lead down a darker path again very easily.

He'd have to have been rendered less whiny, though. Just saying.

Regardless, as a few people have pointed out the opening is still very much there for turning him into a party member. Go to, I say.

If what you're suggesting is that WE should do it, however, as in add another party member via DLC, then I wouldn't hold your breath. Shale was a pretty herculean feat, one made possible by way of the fact that we already had the VO recorded for many of the NPC's that were responding to it in the world, not to mention the fact that VO for other party members had not been recorded yet. Nothing's impossible, I suppose (and it's not my decision anyway), but I'm just telling you how it is.

If I had any modding capabilities. I most likely would!
So think any of the cut-out stuff will ever make it into the full game in the form of DLC sometime?

You know, Jowan must've been born under a ladder next to a black cat in a room with a broken mirror with the number 13 stamped on his forehead.

He just never gets a break..

I say "NAY, tis blasphemy!"

I like him whiny.  And it would have been delightful to have him also easy to push around and self-recriminating.
"I don't like this place, I think I'll go back to camp."
No you don't, you're standing in front.
"I deserve this."
Indeed you do.  The key to disarming traps is to step on them, remember this lesson.

+2 influence

I'll say one thing, it would be nice to have a mage in the party who isn't an evil witch or a lady who just has to remind me she's old every 5 minutes.

I'm sure that someone would have found something to complain about regarding him, no matter how nice you suggest it might be. Especially those who are prone to complaining. Not that you would know anything about that.

Well, as it is now, the whole "Jowan should go so he can redeem"-himself part in the game is a major let-down. As a mage, you and Jowan were friends. What kind of a friend are you to not save his hide when you can? Just because he lied? Doesn't that depend entirely up to you and how you play? I for one, think that there are worse things than blood mages.

Agreed. In fact, I wish I could have taken advantage of the opportunity and use it as my explanation for my oddly Blood Magically giften Mage.

I'd be happy just having him as a playable character anyway, I'm sure the community will add him later, with dialogue and all, perhaps not voiced, but then again, you never know, there are plenty people with voices out there.

I wish I could have put a good word for him with the First Enchanter when I (my PC) decided he should be given to the Circle (since he obviously was a danger to himself and everyone around him), also missed him in my epilogue or any chance to ask the First Enchanter what became of him...

But as companion? Nah I'd pass - would love some Bann teagan though ;) Just sayin'
