Exactly, it's extremely bad form, and it's generated a lot of hate. BioWare should provide an optional patch/fix to remove him for people who don't want the Keep.

And while we're at it, something should really be done about those commercials they've been showing while I'm watching my stories on the television. I don't like them! They interrupt my immersion, and I don't think they are informative or convince anyone to actually buy anything anyway. It's just rude, and I paid for the television so nothing on it should ever change! Back to the days of no commercials, please!

Sorry, I know that's not really related to the point of this thread, but I just had to rant for a moment. I know my brother says I can just ignore those commercials or fast-forward on the PVR to get back to my stories, but the principle still makes me SOOOOO MAD! I really don't know why the TV people don't listen to me when I write them sternly worded letters and tell them how angry everyone is! They won't be long for this world, mark my words, and that's all I'll say on the subject.

Anyway. *ahem* Back to Jowan.

This isn't a commercial, this is a quest forced into our log and an NPC with a huge quest marker forced into our camp. You aren't advertising it between load screens (That would be a good idea) instead you're forcing us to put up with a huge distracting quest marker and a distracting quest NPC that contrasts against an otherwise dark camp in our main base, and forcing us to put up with a quest that was forced into our quest log and can only be resolved by buying the DLC.

Anyway back to Jowan, it's a great idea, just don't pull this crap again or you'll lose another customer to the dark side.

I know that the customer is supposed to always be right, but in this case, he is being a whiny child. This awful problem consists of an entirely unobtrusive NPC standing over in a corner. If you don't like them, ignore them or mod them out of the game.

Wait... all this talk of DLC has little to do with Jowan, since the likelihood that he'll be recruitable as part of a DLC package is negligible. Rehashing arguments about one's preferences with regards to DLC is fruitless even when it's on-topic.

I wouldn't be terribly interested in Jowan as a companion. I haven't played the mage origin, but from what I've seen during the Redcliffe quest, I don't like the cut of his jib one bit. I think a character struggling with being a blood mage without giving into the temptation to do really evil stuff would be good, so long as it avoids a Star Wars light side/dark side simple dichotomy. I would be interested in a Blood Mage character who has mind-control powers, but strict (and hopefully entertainingly idiosyncratic) ethical rules governing just when mind control is permissible. Or perhaps a blood mage companion in an ongoing moral struggle to wean him or herself of the addiction of controlling other people's minds just to get his or her way. Usually fantasy games and stories deal with the power to physically destroy; the insidious power of robbing another of his or her free will would be a welcome twist.

I love the use of the word "force" XD

So they make the fact there is DLC available obvious, what's the big deal? Your quest log is incomplete. Is that it? Sheesh. You'd think they had a flashing symbol at the centre of your screen saying "BUY ME NOOOOOOW" at all times the way you're saying it. Distracting? It's like another dude hanging around the camp, wanting your help. Just reason that he's a retainer to someone and be done with it if you don't want the DLC. As for the quest? Ignore it.

As for Jowan? It'd be cool to see him as a party member. Not essential, but fun.

Well, look at it this way.

Do you REALLY want Levi Dryden of all people staring at you when you're making out with your party love interest of the hour? Really? That guy has a creepy face damnit. I'd sooner let Oghren have a peep show.

The thing is there's also a quest forced into your quest log and a huge honking bright beacon over the Quest NPC.

Look they could advertise DLC between loading screens instead, it would be much less intrusive. I already bought Warden's Keep so for me it's not an issue, and before you ask I was already going to buy it I was just waiting on my credit card, but I almost didn't after I saw the way it was handled. BioWare should learn from this and not do it again, this isn't just me being a whiner, this is the sentiment of thousands and thousands of people on the forums, from BioWare to GameFAQs.

LMAO @ Oghren. It would be really great to get a Female Dwarf NPC in the party just to see what Oghren would say, I mean his lines with Wynn are hilarious. I wonder what he'd say to Jowan.

I don't know, I wasn't a fan of how it was done. Even the PA guys made a comic about it :D

Learn2BasicStatistics plzkthx. The reason that there's more people complaining about the guy than there are people starting threads like "I'm totally apathetic to that guy in camp" is pretty much the same reason that tech support personell aren't swamped with messages saying "everything's still working more or less as intended". When an open call is given for replies and feedback, it naturally encourges people with negative feedback to reply much more than positive.

Well, then they should do it like a TV commercial and completely take control away for your character for a few minutes while they monologue about it. Instead of having an NPC you're not required to talk to and the option to end the dialogue at any time. I think that's the exact opposite of what you want though.

Its simply more tactful to have something that triggers something  you don't have access to appear when you actually have access to it. As opposed to something lingering over as to say your game is incomplete.

Its not a war crime or anything, its just a bit annoying.

So that really annoys a lot of people, as is obvious on pretty much any forum you could care to brows where the topic is discussed. Moreover it could have been advertised in a promotional video and in between load screens, you would have gotten more information about it that way and it would have been less intrusive. The way it was handled in game was a stupid move from a customer relations standpoint.

Anyway about Jowan, do you think his appearance was intended to be more interesting when he was still being considered as a joinable?

ATM he isn't that intriguing. Looks wise.

How about posters between loading screen genius?

You mean so they can force me to read it? Then you'd have just been in here saying that the memory leak was put intentionally into the game by EA in order to boost DLC sales.

That's idiotic, the memory leak is obviously an error with how the game operates on some systems and no DLC would fix it, only a patch would. And you wouldn't be forced to read anything (Well you already kind of are, your own characters responses) instead you would just have a nice poster and list of features between loading screens instead of that whole ring and blood thing they have going on.

So it would be better to require you to stare at something while you're waiting for an area to load, something you have to do for every single scene transition mind you, than have a guy stnading off to the side of an area of the game that barely even forces you to look at him, and even then doesn't advertise the content until you go and talk to him?

I think at this point you're just complaining to complain.

You already have to stare at something while you wait for an area to load, but what you get to stare at is a ring and some blood and a generally useless tip that should be included in the tutorial. So yes, you would be better served with posters.

By the way the quest for the DLC is forced into your log the moment you finish character creation and there's a bright bulb over his head and there's no way to get rid of him without buying the DLC. A poster is no big deal, it could look cool, list features, it would definately be better than the yellow-brown background with a blood ring at the bottom. I guess you like having huge unresovable quests thrown in your face every time you return to sell loot instead?
