DLC Idea: Recruit Jowan

You receive the quest from the Chantry Board if you tell Jowan in the Redcliffe Castle dungeon to "2. Run. I don't want to see you again. Ever." However, I've never been able to trigger the random encounter that completes this.

Yeah but it'd be like..
PC: Step forward, Jowan.
Jowan: Wait! I can use blood magic to make this ritual better! Watch!
*Jowan does something stupid with blood magic and summons the Archdemon which appears right over the PC's head and squashes them*
Jowan: Not again!
LMAO!
If anything it's even more reason to recruit him. The quests are far too easy thus far. Need to throw some wrenches in the works to make them more interesting and challenging. Jowan is just the man for the job!
Go, team Jowan! Hurrah!

No, I like him as he is. He isn't always whiny, I actullay kind of admire him. I looked around, and it is clear--there are a lot of Jowan fans about. The fact I was not able to recruit him actullay was kind of a downer for me, specially since I worked so hard for him to redeem himself. The fact you get to control his character as a party member was a bit of a tease to be honest. I'd happily download him as an extra party member. Please make this so!David Gaider wrote...
He'd have to have been rendered less whiny, though. Just saying.

And while we're at it, something should really be done about those commercials they've been showing while I'm watching my stories on the television. I don't like them! They interrupt my immersion, and I don't think they are informative or convince anyone to actually buy anything anyway. It's just rude, and I paid for the television so nothing on it should ever change! Back to the days of no commercials, please!
...what?
You're paying for cable service..the infrastructure that allows you to view channels on your TV (there's a lot of it). Not a cent of that actually goes to supporting the stations themselves or the studios that develop the shows.
By contrast, when you buy Dragon Age, the money goes to Bioware (and some to the middleman depending on how you buy it). When you buy DLC, the money goes to...Bioware.

I think he'd be an interesting character. Deeply flawed, but actually a powerful mage in some ways. He did manage to escape Greagoir and Irving after all!

A long time ago in a Star Wars MMO far far away, a dev snapped on the public forums at the fans. I can see why.
David Gaider has the patience of a saint.
Back on topic:
I'm ambivalnet on Jowan myself. But someone will mod it when they get around to it. That's what I'm waiting for, personally, fan-modded party members.

See, I'm not crazy, there's plenty of reasons to like Jowan!

likes to romance him. And Karmas mod is indeed really awesome! Seriously
though, you just have to tell me how you did that. I have quite some
interesting romance options for him myself but this is definitely not
possible - at least for me. Some hugs and leisure time like this would
be nice as a standart additition to the mod.
Though I prefer to dress him in light armor instead of a robe:

He's the cutest and nicest guy IMHO. And having Cullen in your party as well
results in some interesting dialogues (regarding Jowan). Not that I
like the templar I just enjoy annoying him with my maleficar romance.

And my screencap isn't a Jowan mod, I put the Jowan morph on Alistair so I could get screens of him with the warden I'm pairing him with in my new fic. IRS Alistair has so many fantastic screenshot opportunities, Karma's doesn't really offer very many.

Ah, nice! I'll give it a shot with my next playthrough.
True. Her mod is still a beta though so I hope and wait for more content (cutscenes) and some VOs as well. Until that happens, I'm quite happy with Siramodz Special Skills (I'm using the Alistair kiss and First Time cutscenes for Jowan) so far.
I'm writing fics as well and I know your story.

My fic actually probably won't have a ton in common with the mod, I've just been kicking around the idea of a Jowan fic for ages and didn't want to do another Jowan/Surana one (and I've already got a massive Amell/Anders fic). And it lets me combine my huge love for the dwarf commoner origin.

I'd rather have Isabella as a duelist Rogue to be recruitable. Seems that she has potential for deeper storyline due to being a ship captain and all that. I'd also rather have another elf to the roster, Jovan to me is just another random guy that is tied to the mage origin, so you can't have him be recruitable to disturb your epilogue.

I've never actually put the underworld armor on a male character. Go figure.

I put the armor on Jowan first and dressed my warden in a second set later. Those two always end up as lovers and having them in partnerlook in battle is kinda cute.
To be honest, I never played a dwarf and played a Cousland only once. I'm mostly an elven mage (9/10 playthroughs) or a City elf/Dalish.
I don't think that fanfics should/must be totally centered around the mod. What I meant is that every fic I read so far is either about the Mage Origin, playing in the tower: from the point where Jowan met Lily until he escapes with blood magic and turns apostate. Or it's about his encounter in Redcliffe with him dying or being sent back to the tower again. I know that fanfics should be lore-friendly or they're running the risk of being flamed though Karmas mod changes the outcome of Jowans life as well and the people playing it are happy with it!
She made it possible for him to be rescued, to survive the blight and even grants him a better life, with a life partner and a son in the end. I'm baffled that fanfic authors refuse to do the same, no matter if they know her mod or not. I always thought that writing fanfics is about exactly that; coming up with new and plausible ideas. And a tragic character like Jowan would give his fans lots of ideas to change his fate. At least that's what I hoped to be happening.
There is a whole group of writers, artists - and modders now - dedicated to Jowan. Either here, at deviantArt, ff.net and even aff.net. Though I'm disappointed with the lack of "original" ideas so far, so to speak. This has nothing to do with your story, I'm just rambling about what I noticed, mostly on ff.net. This makes me wonder if people are afraid to come up with different ideas or if they just don't want to...
I've never submitted something for DAO before (I've made some fanfics for Half-Life 2 and Mass Effect 2). I once was massively flamed for "blasphemous/lore-unfriendly" ideas and that teached me a lesson. XD Though thanks to Karma, I'm submitting now for DAO as well but I'm staying away from ff.net because of their restrictions when it comes to mature content.
