Here is the bottom line. People have complaints. They repeat the same points over and over again. They sometimes (Not Lobsel- he has been quite polite here) get rude and act like idiots. Others will claim they are serious critics and thoughtful complainers and what they are offering is constructive, damn it!
The first problem with constructive criticism is that just because you
think you are being constructive, doesn't make it constructive.
Just because you repeat something all the time, doesn't make it constructive.
Just because you yell it, doesn't make it constructive.
Just because you post it everywhere, doesn't make it constructive.
If the writers have heard it, then they'll either think it has merit and implement it. Or if they don't - you can text them, land up in their raid sessions, paratroop into their meetings, replace one of the little kids Laidlaw uses as a footrest with yourself, take Epler hostage, whatever- NO DICE. If the writer is a professional, he/she has a better understanding of the realities of the situation- time, budget, resources- and your suggestion/complaint however valid or brilliant may have no bearing or may.
And if you are being a jerk, well no one is ever going to listen to you, you get seen as the idiot who keeps spouting inanities and you even reduce the chance of people with legitimate issues from being heard.
Now, if you are a sane and balanced fan (I liked some stuff, I disliked some stuff, it is all a game anyway and I am not at war with anyone), you come here and are faced with this avalanche of "Gaider/EA/Laidlaw destroyed all that is intelligent/innocent/happy in me!". You either back away slowly, or stand up for what you think is unfair maligning. Then you get dubbed a fanboi just like a mythical group of others who think Bioware is made of gold and unicorns frolic in their halls.
It is all ridiculous. All of it.
David Gaider has written a book. It will be released this year. I have enjoyed his past books. I am looking forward to the new book. I also think of games and books as entertainment, and my main goal is to enjoy a few hours of feeling uber and then returning to my boring life of intern abuse. I am not intending to rate Gaider on his prose usage, or expect that because Alistair did something I didn't like in the game, Rhys and the book will totally suck. I am expecting to be entertained and amused. I also expect that others will not be as entertained and amused because the book may not meet their criteria. That is fine. I am hoping people can agree to disagree in a civilized, grownup manner instead of becoming juvenile about it. I am not optimistic.
My warden did something else! Cullen did not do anything!! I killed Wynne!! I didn't have the stone prisoner! You know what? My warden died killing the archdemon and then rose from the dead to become The Zombie Queen of Ferelden. THAT is way more awesome canon than anything any of you ever did! Do I insist that whatever David Gaider comes up with is lesser? No. That was my story. This is his.
