Not normally interested in game novels, but I must admit Shale being in it has me intrigued...

This. I always want more Shale. No one else understands my hatred for birds. Not the way Shale does at least.

Agreed. Little bastards are always so noisy!

I wrote Shale when I was stuck in a corner office that overlooked a landing that was full of dirty, disgusting pigeons every single day. There was hourly pigeon sex on the heat exchange unit right outside my window. Shale comes by her hatred honestly.

Rhys. Not Adrian. Rhys.

So it is always a good day when we get to announce something cool like this. Up until the point where David messages me asking "Who is Adrian?". It seems that name was not correct.

Wynne's son's name is Rhys.

And I actually prefer this. Why should a lovely Welsh named woman like Wynne have a non-Welsh named son? Rhys is much better imo. :)

Did you shoot at them with a bee-bee gun?

Worse. I glared at them and wrote words of derision.

Yay! The Dragon Age books are amazingly written I think. I was wondering how combat would be and was pleasantly surprised when I read them!

Can't wait for the third installment and with Wynne's son?!

Thank you, Mr Gaider :)

Will Rhys look like a Dragon Age version of this guy? Because that was what first came to mind when I saw that Wynne's son is actually named Rhys

Wynne can die in Origins on 2 occassions. Same goes for Shale, you could leave her as a statue or you could kill her at the end of the Anvil of the Void quest. I take it Bioware doesn't care about our choices and is establishing a canon then?

The nature of a novel being what it is, it has to establish its own canon. Many elements will be similar to the game's (most of them, actually), but beyond that a book just isn't going to be able to react to your personal choices. That's self-evident, I'd hope.

Thank you again Mr. Gaider. :)
Is it a big spoiler what Shale´s form is in this novel?
A female dwarf or golem?

So Wynne being alive and Shale being recruited are canon?

If Asunder explains why the mages and templars left the Chantry, I guess the events at Kirkwall will be kept vague.

While I can't explain Shale (and I doubt anyone killed Shale because she's so awesome), Wynne was given an explanation the moment you met her:

A Spirit saved her life once. There's no reason it couldn't do it again, albeit at the cost of weakening itself.

Most North Americans I have met pronounce it as "Reese" (like the peanut butter cup).

Back in Wales, I had a friend named Rhys and he pronounced it "Riss" (like kiss), so that is how I pronounce it.

I figure even if you don't recruit Shale it can be still hand-waved easily as someone else activating it and/or Wynne meeting with it separate from the whole Warden thing. Also, it's a "book cannon" which can be separate from what a player considers to be their own personal version of the story. Not an obligatory "this is what really happened and your game doesn't matter."

It's a recton, no different than Oghren in Awakening, (not recruited) Anders and (dead at the Dragonbone Wastes) Justice in Kirkwall, and (dead) Leliana in Kirkwall.

I'm more curious if the mages and templars in this story will be more coherent and sane than the mages and templars we met in Kirkwall.

Whenever I see pigeons I can't help but wonder where all the pigeon babies are. They always seems to be fully grown when they decide to unleash their terror on society.

This has been addressed above.

I think Bioware cared enough about your choice to let you make one in the actual game. This novel isn't your playthough.
