I remember when ME1 first came around, and before we had information on ME2, people wanted the ability to colonize uncharted/unexplored planets.
I think this would be a cool feature and pretty fun as well. One of the requirements is that the planet is suitable for life. We then scan the planet for excellent areas for a colony, then send down a shore party.
Doesn't matter to me either way if it is in ME3 or not, but I just remember some people talking about how they would like to have a feature where we can colonize.

Save that for a Civ-esque spinoff game.

This might work for a new trilogy post-ME3 where one of the themes is rebuilding from the war.

I want to save the galaxy not colonize it. The closest I want to get to that is I get to choose a world to buy my house on so I can use it as a mission command away from the ship during the game.

I already have the Normandy, why would I want to squat on some rock?

Not for ME3, but yes for later games.

I agree with others. Might be good for after Shep's story, but right now, we got a galaxy to save!

Maybe in an fantastic 'Star Trek' game (hint, hint, BioWare!), but I don't really see it as a major concern in as Mass Effect gaem - certainly not considering the nature of ME's plot. It'd be more a distraction from the Reaper storyline than anything else, IMO.
(seriously though - a 'Trek' game modelled on Mass Effect? Imagine being able to interact with the Enterprise/-A/-D/-E/Defiant/Voyager and crew in the same way as the Normandy/Normandy 2? That'd be mind-blowingly awesome!

Wait for a RTS or Civ-like ME game.
It'll be epic.

..errr didn't you see the trailer of the new Star Trek game?
(though I doubt it will actually have much in terms of dialogue since it seems to be more of a coop shooter)

Co-op shooter based on 'Frat Trek'? Not really my cup o' tea. Besides, things like 'exploring strange new worlds' and other classic Trek hallmarks don't seem to be high on the agenda with the new movies - they're more about big, loud set-pieces á la the Transformers movies.
That's one of the great things about Mass Effect - it manages to combine action and excitement with all the depth, intelligence and detail of classic sci-fi like the original 'Star Trek'. It's just as much fun blowing holes in geth with all manner of weapons as it is to watch some really emotional cutscenes that deal with well-thought-out issues without the need for explosions and pyrotechnics (see Jacob's loyalty mission for a perfect example).
Getting back on-topic somewhat - speaking of 'colonies' and 'unexplored territory', what are the chances of being able to re-visit 'Shepard's Apartment' on Inta'sei?

I would ****** my pants if they decided to develop an Mass Effect RTS spin off. Not really, but I would be pretty happy
