Let's say the Reapers are real, do you think we have advanced far enough for the Reapers to harvest humanity in the nexy year or so?

Nope. The Reapers only harvest those who have discovered the Mass Relays and are proper spacefaring species.

I'd say compared to the Mass Effect humans? (Who they *are* harvesting)

Nope. No where near close.

Nope.  Not advanced enough. However, just advanced enough to assume we could be a real threat when the next Reaping starts.  So I think we'd get the "Nuke It From Orbit" treatment.

We haven't even fully explored our own system. For all we know, they might even exist because we wouldn't be able to detect an intergalactic invasion if the main battle was raging in a system next door. We don't know their motives, therefore we can't determine why they do what they do, but what difference would it make that we don't live in caves anymore when we still aren't able to travel further than our moon. They could easily ignore us without taking a risk they might be detected.

That would be so ****ing awesome. I think the Reapers are the coolest, most badass enemies/villains ever created.

I hope they come to our planet in the near future. Maybe the Reapers wiped out the dinosaurs?

Please, we're barely any better or more advanced than the chimps we cage in zoos that fling their feces at one another... It will be thousands of years before humans undergo any meaningful sociological evolution - as we are, we're barely any different from our ancestors 50,000 years ago.

Less than a fraction of a percentage of the human race are/were brilliant geniuses that have pulled the rest of us up from the mud through technological innovation and breakthroughs.... the rest of us just use the brilliant discoveries & tools created by the few geniuses that showed them to us. On a sociological level though we're barely any different than we were ages ago... we just have fancier tools now and a few minor sociological changes... we're still far too weak in terms of psyche and understanding - too governed by our weakest, most primitive emotions (fear, anger, hunger, greed, reproduction).. until we learn to govern & control those emotions in a beneficial way with our own conscious mind (as opposed to letting them govern us, as is the case) then we're not going anywhere in a hurry as a species.

Any species that were advanced enough to reach our solar system would have nothing to fear from us because there's nothing we could do to even come close to harming them - they'd be best off just waiting us out and seeing if we end up killing ourselves off with war or suffocating ourselves with over population.

Frankly, I'd think the reapers would look down upon the real world of Earth today and treat us the same way an average person does when they see an anthill... ignore it, or kick it over without so much as a second thought.

Yeah...totally awesome...because we'd all die a very painful death. Or worse. Great, just what I always wanted.

Hardly worth the trouble. If the Reapers did arrive tomorrow and melt us all down into genetic goo for a new Reaper, all they'd end up with is a Reaper that complains alot, has a low IQ and likes getting fat on hamburgers and beer.

Yep. We're too far advanced to let us develop for another 1000-2000 years, but not enough to cull immediately.

this made me rofl. seriously.

Indeed they'll pretty much be like: " hey, wanna harvest them monkeys too?"
" why bother they'll wipe themselves out in 50 years anyway"
"true dat, ah well"

I'm not sure we know enough about them to positively make that assumption they will never generate a reaper from a pre-space flight civilisation. If the genetic material is right for it and they are significantly advanced to the point they can't be left for another cycle, I don't really see why they wouldn't reap them. It's entirely possible there is a reason for it, but as far as I am aware we haven't heard about it.

They would harvest us in Mass Effect 2 one of the planet descriptions mentioned that a Bronze age civilization was eradicated by the reapers.

Probably not, humanity's already booked up for natural disasters but I think there might be some room around Christmas 2016.

Does anyone find it sad, that unless aliens come and give us some technology, the odds of us seeing any space exploration past mars in our lifetimes (i'm 22) are slim?

They would look at the internet, see all of the porn, and decide to glass the planet instead of harvesting us.

Or the porn would overload their sensors, cause them to self-destruct, and save the galaxy.

You're not qualified. Our only chance is to launch a team of actor-astronauts into space after them.
