I don't get this. Millions, Billions whatever years and the Reapers haven't come up with a way to get around this? Just seems silly to have all that free time between genocides and not bother to overcome that cause you know any weakness an enemey finds it will be exploited.

Actually to be honest it seemed like the SR1's ability to destroy the Reaper was partly plot since Admiral Hackett ordered the entire fleet to attack the Reaper and even that didn't destroy it only the Normandy was able to kill it somehow.

I just assumed the fact that Alliance fleet killed the Reaper because Shepard just killed Saren/Sovereign so it's shields were down and probably anything of use really. Still doesn't tell me why the Reapers decided to quit researching improvements for themselves. A small weakness is still a weakness.

Why should they? Its pretty much known that nothing the Alliance or Citadel fleets could have done destroyed it only a act of plot did and that was because they have a badass mary su on there side.

When you are immune to most weapons fire then you either can't really keep improving yourselves due to being the near limit or there is no need to do it.

I'm assuming Mass Effect 3 will change their minds and then the Reapers will theoretically crap themselves.

Basically, it's like this: If humanity gets wiped out, that's one less ally in the war against the Reapers. No one is safe, remember? They need all of the help they can get! So it would be completely idiotic to NOT band together to fight the Reapers.

Well I don't think they are completely heartless/about their own needs. They would probably be scared of the Reapers just as well and would want to react as quick as possible while the Reapers have been delayed and are distracted/harvesting and while Earth is still an ally (they still have fleets and military on many other planets that the Reapers haven't strucken yet)

I think that every race will help to save the galaxy. Every planet will be wiped out but Earth will be first. Like Miranda said:"He's a hero. A bloody icon!"

Because Shepard has them by the balls.

I mean, he drops in right in the middle of their biggest crisis (war to retake planet, genophage, etc.), solves it all while the galaxy is being slowly conquered by the "dismissed" Reapers, and all the people he has helped so far say to help him. How much of an idiot do you have to be to say "thanks for solving our problems, but we choose extinction."

it's true that each race would have reasons to just care for itself but seeing the Reapers vastly outnumber them and are superior technologically it's better to stand united than to die alone wouldn't you agree?

The Qurians have a fleet of junk

I just want to point out that the Quarian Fleet took down a Reaper with a single orbital strike in the E3 demo.

And I like to point out that it didn't die. It got right back up after like ten seconds. They pissed it off at best.

Knocking a Reaper down with a single strike is still more than what the Citadel/Alliance/Turian fleet combined managed to pull off in ME1. Shepard had to take out what was essentially Sovereign's core after it merged with Saren before they could even scratch the Reaper.

All I'm sayin' is that the "fleet of junk" is packing some serious heat now.

It was stated a while back ( in the Game Informer article I think) that Reapers had varying sizes. They ranged from 600 feet to 2km in length. The reaper in the demo looked like it was one of the smaller Reapers. It sure as hell didn't look anywhere near as big as sovereign.

Basically for the same reasons the US eventually came to the aid of the allies in World War 2. It was the right thing to do, it helped prevent needless slaughter, they had their own vested interests in teh area under attack and leaving the attacking force alone would potentially leave them open for attack sometime in the future.

More or less anyways. I am not a history major or anything.

So the other races aren't already under attack then?

In one of the E3 vids, Jesse Houston mentioned how the Reapers are kind of attacking from the south of the milky way and making their way up...

So besides Sol (our system), that pretty much also means the system Tuchanka is in is going to be screwed really early on too seeing as that system is right near Sol.

From that logical standpoint.. by looking at the ME 2 galaxy map, It would appear that Ilium would be one of the laters levels along with the Migrant Fleet (assuming that the fleet didn't travel southwards). I wonder where Palaven and the Salarian homeworld come into play. Heck, it might be a ME 2 trend just like how you recruited species. 1st we started off with Human squadmates (Home planet is Earth) then we got Mordin who's a Salarian then Garrus who's a Turian so it could be that we go to Palaven and the Salarian homeworld early on as well. Then Tuchanka afterwards since we found Grunt who's a krogan. Then the Migrant Fleet (Quarian Homeworld?), Drell/Hanar world, and Thessia would open up considering Tali, Thane, and Samara would be next. Not sure if the Geth would need considering.. The True Geth are already helping out with the war effort. If ME 3 is going that route based off of the squad race recruitments then that's how it would go, but I'm only making a reading suggestion so who knows

We wont need the aliens, we just plant some virus and blew one of the toasters into shrapnels. Let me quote Will Smith in Independence day: "PEACE!!!" *nuke launched* and "I COULD HAVE GONE ON A BBQ!!!" *kicks the sh** out of the enemy* I am sure Shepard will deal the same way with one of the small Reapers.
"I could have dated one of my girlfriends!!! And what the hell is that smell???" Beats the crap out of the next Reaper :P

I think that maybe it could be because Reapers gain strength by each world they... uhm... reap.

Basically theyre massed and at their weakest when theyre attacking Earth. Which allows everyone else to join forces at the best possible chance.

Otherwise OP is right it doesn't make alot of sense.

OP thread enlightened me and made me realize that BIOWARE is going to have shepard do a ridiculous retarded mission to gain the loyalty of other species. Its going to be silly lazy script writing.

Already did that by continously denying the Reapers existence and calling Shepard crazy. This time i would let the council die a long, painfull death. Damn, stupid cowards.

Because where else would you be able to copy/paste (DAII style) the same stuff over and over again? That's right, Earth.

The Aliens should defend earth because...well...keyboard cat lives there?

It would be epic if a Salarian special forces team came down and rescued Keyboard cat then left. Keyboard Cat would then play his song as Reapers destroyed the Earth. The end!

Nobody will defend anything. You defend something if it's under attack. As ME3 kicks off, Earth has ALREADY fallen. What you do next is basically calling in favors to rally a strong enough force to take it back. Notice the keyword? Favors.

Honestly - if I could fight and destroy the uber-alien robot race on someone elses planet... I would in a heart beat. Let Earth get crushed - it already is - but attacking while the Reapers are finishing Earth off (and let's be realistic - they won't destroy the Earth) is far better than waiting until they get to X homeworld.

I'm just gonna be ticked if the Elcor, Hanar (and by extension the Drell), and Volus don't get to contribute somehow.

I still don't understand why thousands of Reapers cannot harvest home-planets of four major races simultaneously.

It would make sense for the reapers to target the Council races and the humans at the same time actualy and it is implied that they have the numbers and power to do so.

Well Palaven is destroyed in ME3.

Also Reapers are mostly concentrated on Earth. Makes sense to destroy enemy stronghold.
