Hello, everyone!

I managed to find Duncan's model, extract it from the packages and use it ingame, as of yesterday. I substituted the splint mail armor model with it, but I wasn't quite happy since as you can imagine every NPC that wears that armor was now wearing Duncan's.

I'm currently thinking of changing the Ancient Elven Armor with it, since that is a unique one.

Now, the model name is "nm_bdy_duna_0.mmh". You can extract it with the toolset from the "modelhierarchies.erf" package. To make it work correctly you will have to extract the .phy file with the same name as well (I guess it has data with the physics of the model in it).

All you need to do is to copy Duncan's model files into your override folder situated in the ../Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age directory and rename it as the model you want to change it with. Since Duncan's is a full body model, you will have to make three copies of it (chest, boots, gloves), or the boots and gloves of the same armor set you substitute will clip badly (you can still use other armors boots and/or gloves, but the effect is the same: really bad clipping). And for those of you who are wondering, no there is no issue of  "multi-layered" models, it looks completely fine.

This way the PC will be naked when scripted to, as the model works like any other armor.

Uh, my toolset doesn't work. Could you by any chance make this a "mod"?

Got my toolset working, can you give a walkthrough on how to do this? Extract modelhierarchies.erf etc..

Cool nice find I hope this helps a lot of people.

sweet, I was planning on using a similar armor model in my project. I like the idea of the upper breastplate and a skirt for the legs. Probably will reskin it first.

If you're considering modifying the Ancient Elven Armor anyway...
Perhaps you could change it's bonuses to make it worthwhile to use, particularly for a dual-wield or archer rogue/warrior.
As it stands now none of the Medium Armor is really worth using except for lower level warriors until they can wear/find better.

Suggestions :

Tier 7 Dragonskin Medium Armor
Set Bonus : -15% Fatigue, +5 Defense

Boots :
+9 Defense
+1 Armor
+5 Fire Resistance
+5% Chance to Ignore Hostile Magic

Chest :
+1.0 Combat Stamina Regeneration
+2 Armor
+35 Fire Resistance
+10% Chance to Ignore Hostile Magic

Gloves :
+2 Dexterity
+1 Armor
+5 Fire Resistance
+5% Chance to Ignore Hostile Magic

Helm :
+25 Mental Resistance
+1 Armor
+5 Fire Resistance
+5% Chance to Ignore Hostile Magic

It is an issue, yes, that all of the medium armors are pretty bad..

IMO there should be some +attack and +strength in there.. and physical resistance instead of fire resistance, perhaps..

What do you mean about the 3 copies of the armor? You have to equip the gloves/boots with the same model as the chest?

Zenthar: not sure exactly myself. The exporting part is easy, just not sure about putting it in game. I'll have to try it out.

I figured it out... I exported it and put those two files in the override section. HOWEVER, I'm wondering the same thing as you are.. create 3 copies? And if I want to use the Ancient elven armor model for it, what do I do? It didn't.. quite work when I tried with chantry robe, what should the specific names be?

I'll try to make it more clear for those who are having problems doing this right.

1- Open the toolset, then select Open file. Go to your DA installation directory and then go into the ../packages/core folder and select the modelhierarchies.erf file. The toolset will load the erf showing a list of models. Scroll down to the "n" and select the two Duncan's files (nm_bdy_duna_0.mmh and .phy) one by one, right click them and export them in whatever folder you feel comfortable to.

2- Now you can close the toolset and go to your Documents folder, look for the Bioware/Dragon Age/override one. Copy the files you exported into the override and make three copies (one for the chest, one for the boots, and one for the gloves). Now to have it work ingame you have to rename the files with the name of the model you want to replace. Eg. I tested it on the splintmail model, so I had to rename the files to "hm_arm_medd_0" (chest), "hm_boo_medd_0" (boots) and "hm_glv_medd_0" (gloves).

3- Load the game and play!

To know what the models name are and see what is what, I highly suggest you to download the DATool released by Adinos here on the Social Network.

I hope now it is clearer. :)

Weird. I couldn't get it to work like that with the Ancient elven armor.. care to try that yourself and comment?

Thanks for the step by step
