5) The Thermal Clip lore makes no sense and it's something I raged over when it was first announced. Seriously, how is "We have limited ammo, but the MARKEDLY FEW Battle-Engineers
in the Galaxy can't feck with them, and each bullet hits a little harder." better than "Right. We have 3 million troops, each one NEVER HAS TO STOP FIRING and if the other side comes at us with Battle-Engineers and disables a few of them, the other 2,999,933 troops will use their infinite ammo to turn them into jelly. I know, each bullet hits a little less hard than the other side, but lets do the math: 80x50.4 is 432 damage - 80 shots is as much ammo as they can carry for the mattock. Now, lets say that our guns do ...20 damage per shot. Thats ∞x20 which is ∞ damage. I think we'll win this one boys."
Mine is people who rage over this claiming it makes no sense when it does make sense realistically if you're smart enough to think it through a little before you churn out another comment like the one above.
Also, not being able to find the droids I'm looking for.
Slightly insulting, but okay... for small teams that can run in and steal their opponent's unused clips, this may be a nice option, it avoids the possibility that the very rare Engineer you encounter could criple your team for a few seconds. However, in a fullscale battle, or especially in a fire fight such as the one at the end of the SM when Shepard is killing the HR, you'd run out of 'sinks. You have what effectivley is an unlimited number of incoming combatants if the size of the base is anything to go by - Realistically, given the recharge time on biotics and tech powers and the limited ammo, everyone on your team should be dead by the time Shepard finishes his business. The only excuse is that the Collectors, and thus the Reapers are complete morons, and we shoddn't really worry about their invasion because we could just post signs everywhere saying "Turn left --> now" and they woudln't know what do do and we could kill them at our leisure - because they're that stupid.
Look at the Codexs entry -
"It was long thought that personal weapons had plateaued in performance, but the geth proved all theories wrong. Mathematically reviewing their combat logs, the geth found that in an age of kinetic barriers, most firefights were won by the side who could put the most rounds down-range the fastest. But combatants were forced to deliberately shoot slower to manage waste heat, or pause as their weapons vented.
To eliminate this inefficiency, the geth adopted detachable heat sinks known as thermal clips. While organic arms manufacturers were initially doubtful this would produce a net gain, a well-trained soldier can eject and swap thermal clips in under a second. Faced with superior enemy firepower, organic armies soon followed the geth's lead, and today's battlefields are littered with these thermal clips."
- But we KNOW from the first game that you can upgrade a gun so you never need to stop firing which is why this MAKES NO SENSE. I found HUNDREDS of those upgrades, just randomly, in boxes, on bodies, it's not like it was a secret - the GETH already had this technology, and it was BETTER! It might have even cost less to mod them rather than REPLACING EVERY GUN IN THE GALAXY. Where do geth even keep the spare 'clips? Are their bodies just automatic clip dispensors? They don't have pockets or belts. If so, why not just have the weapon built into their bodies? How is it more efficient if you have nowhere to keep your ammo?! Why don't the guns have clip magazines? Woudln't that be MORE efficient than pulling them out of your pocket?
Any military leader who takes ME2 ammo over ME1 ammo, knowing that with a couple of simple modifications you would only need to stop firing eveyr 10,000 shots or so to replace the block, as a global decision rather than a selective one should be charged with treason due to intentional military sabotage. And while we're on the subject... Why are collectors using these things?!
Which is why, lore wise, this makes no sense.
Gameplay wise, quite enjoyed it, apart from that one time I ran out of ammo vs. Husk waves on Insanity... beating them to death using Adrenaline Rush was such a pain.
So to sumerise, quite liked the actual change, but the reason was just terrible - and it's that I have the issue with.
