When one kills such a library of billions of words in one click, he is using a power he doesn't have the clearance for.
I don't live in the past and barely ever look back. Because I know some people do. We cannot kill our past. It's awfully pretentious.
I'm thinking today about that guy who pressed that button and send to limbo people thoughts.
I don't belong to such a world that kills its memory.
Only to make more room for its emptiness.

Quite profond and well said!

Where do you come off criticizing everyone for nothing?
After reading posts up to the time "Chris" posted his rather "No common sens what so ever" post, well after
reading your posts, I'm left to wonder... "Has this person even read these posts I read?"
And from where I stand, you are the one that seemed to attempt to get a rise out of poeple here.
Shame on you!
And no you're not right one bit neither are anyone that agree with your vile posts.
I knew it was coming, not that it's right (because it's not), not because it makes business sense (because it doesn't).
No, I knew it was coming because they said it was and because they simply can and didn't expect any better from
them.
Anyhow, no matter, we'll manage

Yes; shame on me for expecting this NWN1 community might be more mature than others. Instead, it seems that some expect a lot more than what is given. And I am not criticizing everyone; just those that fit the elistist glass slipper.

So I was concerned about losing those resources, but just not EXCITED about the situation, like some of those in this thread seemed to have been. I'm happy that it wasn't the cacophanous attack of a grand piano . .

Now I am feeling really dumb I didn't backup their site somewhere on my computer. I had no idea the whole site would dissapear though. I thought at most the forums but still thought that they would be left in that locked state.
Now all the information about NWN1 that is still on Biowares homepage is just a few line about the game.
This is not good....

But myself, being one of the people who received the e-mail about account data being stolen, have found ourselves being locked out of bioware forums, out of our old accounts.
Getting access to our old cdKeys is impossible without going to support.
And even then...
What if the hacker took those cdKeys with him?
Is Bioware going to reimburse us for the theft of our CDKeys?

Thanks for the heads up! This would also explain Chris Priestley's irritated reaction (not excuse it, but make it more understandable), seeing that his company was already under attack - and often these hackers self-righteously proclaim they're doing it to harm the "evil" companies that "had it coming" to them.
Naturally all this stirs up strong emotions but emotions and posting on the internet seldom go together very well and most of the times only make things worse. So I'd humbly suggest to just forgive and forget what has been said and concentrate on the situation at hand with a clear head and no hard feelings.

What will hackers with the maturity of 12-year olds do with your lunky old CD-keys anyway?Baaleos wrote...

Oh I dont know... Play online using them?
What does anyone do with CDKeys?
The only reason my CDKeys, and everyone elses CDKeys were likely stored in Biowares Site, was because it was supposedly secure, and 'handy' to keep them safe there.
Now it is neither.

Btw, does anyone have an idea how to change your password here? If I try that I'm being redirected to an EA site which apparently doesn't recognize my account name and password, probably because I never had an EA account in the first place (I tried "EA classic" for older games, to no avail).
Try posting in the site help forum maybe? There used to be a way of associating your old bioware account with an EA account (or making a new one if you'd not got one), but I can't remember how and with taking down the old site the old way might not work anymore. Sorry that wasn't very helpful.

I'm hoping the old forums will be restored once the security issues are resolved. There was a lot of good info there, and it will be much harder to find patches and game related files without them.

I find it extremely distasteful to see put downs on those with comments like "get a life, you are only playing a game".
Now, it is true that NWN is "just a game". Sure. But those who have gone beyond just playing, to provide free support and content for the playing pleasure of others, well, that is clearly not "just playing a game", is it?
It is correctly described as work. Some have worked as hard, if not harder, as the Devs to bring this "game" to new heights of enjoyment for others. All that for free.
A bit of respect for those is warranted.
@FA - nice to see you around, FA! Been awhile.
As for Chris, well, clearly he had a bad day. I have had bad days. I tend to think that just about everyone else has as well. I think I can let his post slide. After all, I have been hit by worse flames in the past (though not from Chris, not directly, anyway).
It happens, we will live. Life moves on.
I sincerely hope that this problem will get fixed and the Legacy forums come back. Sadly, I have not received any information regarding that last part. I see the first part being addressed, of course, but no mention about the last part.
So Chris, perhaps a bit of information about what the future status of the Legacy forums is going to be, please? Will one be able to access them again when this thing gets addressed? Or is all that hard-won info, and content going bye-bye?

This sheds a whole new light on the situation. I also suspect -- with all due respect to the individuals involved -- that it's probably the explanation we would have received if Bioware hadn't been so strongly and pre-emptively slammed in some of the early comments. We had no idea what the reason for the sudden shutdown was, or whether there might have been a considerably less sinister explanation for it than what some offered. Gorath's observation would certainly qualify as an example. Until we actually know otherwise, I simply don't think that comments jumping to conclusions or asserting a "presumption of guilt" on Bioware's part are either helpful or warranted. All that does is throw gasoline on an issue that deserves to be addressed calmly and civilly.
With that said, however, I would also like to ask Chris Priestly to please reconsider his decision not to explain the reason for the shutdown of the old Bioware forums here (whatever it might be), as he appears to have decided to do in response. Chris, I both understand and probably share what I suspect are your reasons for taking offense at some of those comments. However, there are a lot of others participating in the NWN community who have neither offered nor sanctioned such remarks, who are now effectively being left in the dark because of your decision. Some of us have even been fairly strident in talking back to the (as Beerfish has noted, frequently inappropriate) criticisms that the company has been receiving on some of the other forums.
I for one would appreciate the respect that you clearly came to the thread initially to offer us, rather than seeing the remarks of a few others with whom I strongly disagree (however much I may like and respect them in general) define the response that Bioware feels that the NWN community deserves on this matter.

You're all assuming that it was Chris P that wrote the nasty little response yesterday. It's quite possible that it wasn't him, but instead someone who hacked his account. I think I'll give the man the benefit of the doubt, and see what the future brings.

I didn't receive an email, so I guess my data wasn't compromised, but it wouldn't be much data. I only entered keys to unlock posting in the forums in those forums. I didn't use it as storage for my keys. I have still have all my NWN boxes/manuals as it is my favorite game of all time, I would never part with them.

When I made my post yesterday, I was aware that the websites had been taken off line for back end web work, but was not yet aware of the extent of the problem or the eventual information that is now available. I did allow some rather juvenile comments to get my hackles up and instead of just saying "we are running some back end checks and will have more information for you shortly", I overeacted.
I was not aware of the extent of the issue (no one was at the time of my post, it was uncovered by dillegient work by our website and IT group), but this does not excuse what I said. For this I do apologize to those I offended.
If you have not read BioWare Studio Manager Aaryn Flynn's explanation of why the NwN information was removed without notice, you can do so HERE.
We are still investigating what we can do next for the NwN information, forums, website and CD Keys. When we have more information, we will let you know.
