I couldn't care less if Fem-Shep is on the box or not. Style, not substance. I've seen this marketing strategy before, DA2. There was a good reason they went with style, the game had no substance. Now I'm seeing the same thing with ME3. This has me a little concerned. I don't consider sticking a picture on the box, which will cost them nothing anyway, listening. If that's good enough for you then you're easily pleased. Do you really think anybody will care about that if the game turns out to be a soulless shooter?
People asked for a trailer with femShep. People asked for femShep on the box. BW asked if that's what was wanted and received an enthusiastic "yes." So they said "okay, we're doing it." Sounds like they are listening, to me.
DA2 didn't fail because femHawke was marketed. That has nothing to do with it. It failed because of the game itself. Whether ME3 thrives or dies will not be reliant on one femShep trailer and her face on the back of a CE tin. It will fail or thrive on the merits of the game.
Thank you.
Why are you thanking him? I didn't say that. Like him you need to read the damn posts.
Sorry, but that was not aimed at you. I was thanking him in general.

FemShep does not deserve "special" recognition. She deserves simple recognition. Never in a million years would I expect or hope BioWare to even give her equal recognition, but simple recognition is long overdue.
You have summed up my feelings exactly. Thank you.

Exactly this. David was swamped with feedback. Not by one or two fans but by hundreds of fans showing their support.
If its such a minority it just wouldnt be done. Additionally Bioware did a poll on facebook a couple of weeks back asking whether players preferred maleshep/femshep. Out of almost 20,000 votes she got just over a third of the vote. My point being its not just a few "whiners" as some people are suggesting causing this. There are alot of femshep fans out there who would like Bioware to flaunt her a bit more. Now they are and were really pleased about it
Nope, I'm not off topic. It's these meaningless marketing gimmicks and lack of meaningful details that are the topic. It's all very DA2ish.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think there will be a Jane 2.0 in game, so it's not meaningless. It's a way to advertise a new product. Also, the trailer evolved from a BW sponsored fan made event to an official BW trailer. Of course it’s a gimmick; hell the whole notion of a Collector’s Edition is a gimmick that has become a staple of the gaming industry as a whole. So is DLC, but that’s a whole ‘nother thread. Yeah, the whole buy this and stand on your head and get that stuff from DA2 was a bad gimmick, but I’m not seeing that in ME3 (yet). All I am seeing is that some people asked for femShep to get some simple recognition and she got it.
As for substance, I’m seeing a lot of that on Twitter in the form of Q&A between fans and devs.

Another thing, the assumption femshep would only hold greater appeal to female gamers is utter nonsense, as many male gamers can no doubt testify to.
Speaking personally, a female main character on a box cover is always the best way to attract me to buy a game.
I've always preferred to play female characters even though I'm male. I don't identify with being a female myself I just like the idea of a female protagonist.
The way I see it, if I'm going to spend 50 hours on a game I may as well enjoy the view
One thing, though, I don't agree with the people saying they don't want the default femshep in the marketing. I've got three femsheps and the only one that deviates from the default by anything other than hair colour is the Renegade femshep I deliberately created to look nasty.
I could never get any other femshep to look halfway decent so default femshep is my femshep and I'd love to see her in the trailer
Regards
Julian
Hey i am in the same boat as you, but of course I take the time to customize my femshep. But when i go play Maleshep i just have to use default because custom one looks off lol.
@ all-the-ones-complaining-about-this
What is your deal i read through the whole thread and I just dont understand your deal with complaining about this. I mean there are female gamers out in the world, of course there will be a canon Shepard but all the other Shepard possibilties are YOUR Shepard.
Also the person using DA2 I am afraid has a bit of a valid point. Its the unfair weight that the games failing has put on ME3. Anyone who has played DA2 would know this and now ME3 has more to live up to because of that. Oh and yes I know they are made by two different teams but thats why its unfair to ME3, but if life was fair we wouldnt be having this issue.

Until I see it in a working demo, the Twiiter, forum and Q&A will hold little water with me. All I'm seeing is gimmicks, I'm not impressed. I've no problem with FemShep, but I want to see some bloody substance. With DA2 we heard little and saw little of the actual game play. We all know why that was the case. Hell, even the demo had a locked inventory on the characters so it wouldn't be known that companions couldn't change armor.

But yes, he is greatly disliked because of his comments in a DA2 interview where he stated that DAO had too many visual details and lore items in-game that 'nobody really cared about' and different areas like forests, snow-topped mountains, underground dwarven kingdoms and highway (deep roads) didn't have a similar color consistency aka, why didn't they all have the same colors.
Take that as you will...
