hold on, hold on - so you're saying 'sheploo' somehow doesn't represent the series for everyone, at the very least, in terms of marketing (let alone representing BW's version of shepard for stuff like videos/magazines etc)? that's spurious. default/iconic shep has always been/was designed for that.
why does femshep deserve special recognition? femshep is not iconic shepard, she's not anyone's custom shepard, she's not anything to anyone. should i start a support group for cutom shepards on everything?!
what 'metal case insert' are you talking about? femshep is definitely not on the tin case that holds the game, or the plastic sleeve. personally i thought the ME2 boxart was the best of all worlds, and the tin case had classy, simple representations of shepard on the front and harbinger on the back - i'd certainly like something similar for the sequel. instead of pandering to minorities, BW could be making trailers showcasing other cool stuff, rather then just highlighting the already-known fact that you can have a female shepard in there, too! <_<
Sheploo does not even come close to representing Mass Effect for me. It represents someone else's option; someone else's ideal. As such it is no different from putting default femShep on the box. Some people use Sheploo; some people use the default femShep. It's the exact same scenario. "BioWare's version of Shepard" is a marketing gimmick. It's not the canon Shepard and it wasn't designed to appeal to everyone. If it was, then it would be the only possible Shepard.
As for the metal case, this is what I'm talking about:

As it clearly states, femShep will be on the
collectible metal tin case which will be inside the slip cover. The slip cover has the N7 art on it (assuming that's finalized). Therefore this femShep recognition will not in any way affect brand recognition. Your argument that it is pointless pandering to a minority is completely asinine. How the hell would putting some generic reaper on that tin case be better than putting femShep there? You personally don't want to look at femShep and would rather look at a reaper? Well, too damned bad for you, I guess. I didn't want to look at some supermodel Sheploo on the case, but it wasn't that big a deal for me.
FemShep does not deserve "special" recognition. She deserves simple recognition. Never in a million years would I expect or hope BioWare to even give her
equal recognition, but simple recognition is long overdue. And it's not "obvious" that you can play a femShep. A lot of people had no idea, and there are still those that have no idea. ME2 especially, there was absolutely no acknowledgment of a female Shepard except for when someone specifically asked on these forums (which the majority of players don't even visit) or when a third party previewer decided to acknowledge that it was possible (which wasn't often). It was not on the box; it was not on the website.
This tiny, insignificant nod towards femSheps is a simple niceity in acknowledging the femShep fanbase. And the sad thing is that it is far more than I expected from BioWare, and far less than femShep deserves.
