who got excited by this topic? i just played killzone2, and your backup weapon is a pistol with infinite ammo, and i was thinking, WHY DOESNT ME3 USE ME1S PISTOLS?
if every class is going to have sidearms, why not just relive the glory days with the nostalgic sidearm of ME1? mods arent even nessecary, just a so called "weaker" sidearm each class has to use when ammo counts are depleted.
itd be a nice way to show the superiority of ME2 weapons VS the ME1 overheat weapons as well.
good idea, er what?!?!
ME1 pistols in ME3!!!

"We shall walk where none dare tread, and snatch salvation from destruction. We will stand where others have fallen, and as a whole, become stronger. Often our primary means will fail, but there must be another way" *agrees*

The pistol was hilarious in ME1 -- basically a little peashooter that was still capable of steamrolling through just about everything (at least on lower difficulties; I never bothered to play past Veteran in ME1).
So yeah, it'd be fun to have it -- as long as the Krogan taunts return. I always loved hearing those and then putting about 20 bullets consistently in their face with Marksman in a few short seconds.

as much as i liked ME1's rpg combat i have to say the pistols sucked ME2 did a way better job as a matter of fact i almost use the pistol and nothing else in ME2 exceptin some boss fights.

Pistol wasn't that hot by itself, but if you developed a habit of using Marksman every time it refreshed you'd output the highest DPS in the game.

In my last playthrough of ME1 on Insanity as an Infiltrator I used the pistol pretty much the entire time. Even when you finally leveled up enough to get your sniper rifle to steady, the pistol is way better and Marksman can cooldown in a second or two.

Uh no?
One of the things I liked less about Killzone 2 honestly. The original Killzone did pistols right. Powerful, easy to handle, and fairly accurate. Having some guns with infinite ammo and others not is just silly. I roll my eyes at games that have machine guns with unlimited ammo for example. I mean really?
Gee I bet the Germans sure wish their MG42's never needed new belts during D-Day. Though I'm guessing my Great Uncle was quite glad they didn't.

No, just no. The thermal clip system is here to stay. Plus if they gave the pistol infinite ammo, then they will heavily nerf its power compared to the other guns that use the thermal clips, and I like using the pistol, even as a soldier. I still don't get why the thermal clip system gets so much hate. Its extremely difficult to run out of ammo (unless your trying to), even on insanity. If you hate it so much then get it on PC and get that mod that gives u infinite ammo.

After playing ME1 again, I've gotta say, in terms of combat and several other aspects, ME2 > ME1. The only place where ME1 has ME2 beaten is by having a story with a grander scope.
And ME1's soldier class was better than ME2's soldier class, but that's it.

woah. i wasnt expecting so much hate on ME1s pistol. there isnt a better weapon in ME1. im not saying i want the entire game to revolve around overheating weapons again. BUT, atleast to me, it'd be aesome to have ME1s pistol as my sidearm instead of the phalanx. i wouldnt want the ME1 pistol to fire forever, or be awesome, id want it to be pretty ****ty, and the perfect word for it would be "whittle" down enemy health, but it does have limitless ammo and is used as a just in case weapon, kindof like using throw on insanity in ME2.
what i mainly care about is, are all the ME1 fans long gone? i feel like im the last of the mohicans.

If the starting pistol was a peashooter with unlimited ammo, that would be cool.
It would give you a "last-resort" weapon when you ran out of ammo.
However, we should still have the option to upgrade (or downgrade?) to hand-cannons that use thermal clips if we want pistols that can actually do serious damage and are more than just last-resort sidearms.
I support the unlimited-ammo peashooter with the option to replace it with a stronger pistol that uses thermal clips.

I played a soldier in Me1 on insanity and never used anything but the pistol and sniper rifle... and the pistol I used throughout Me2 was the M-3 Predator because I appereciated being able to put more rounds downrange for suppressing fire intead of having the equivalent of a .44 magnum. please don't make all pistols like the Phalynx. I hated that gun.

ME1's pistols made a joke of the weapon system of the entire game. They had the best DPS second best range and were available to everyone.

do people get off by calling someone a troll? really look at the last 5 posts. you enter this topic, call me a troll, and leave. what a wonderfully supportive and classy community here!!! i suppose your a troll for trolling my thread, now arent you?
but back on topic, im pushing the pistol becasue biowares not ambitious enough to make all overheating weapons work anyways.
i really cant beleive the little support i have, and the overall hate by the people who think they are ME-encyclopedias.

Actually it's not a bad idea - if it is as a weaker sidearm, just for nostalgia.
Maybe it could be a little bonus item for people who import level 60 and level 30 characters?
