I know that I can't import my Shepard, but I will I be able to import my choices/actions to 3? I really don't want to play that ending sequence again.

Or will I be playing as a whole new main character?

No. That save cannot be imported.

You can't import your Shepard as in, you can't import that save. If you were to play ME3 you would have to play as the default Shepard with the default choices made, not your own. Your Shepard has to survive ME2 to be able to import their choices into ME3.

No. Just make a new game for 3 and copy your looks from 2 and magic there is your shep minus all the stats he/she had prior.

Reading the load screens is your friend. ME2 stated that you can export your Shepard, IF you survive.

Just Reload to pre-suicide mission, or even halfway through it. You can easily survive with good decisions and few loyalties. You just need two people to survive.

why would you even want to? why not ... uh survive the mission? would the galaxy want some loser who failed against the Collectors trying to stop the Reapers?

why kill your options for ME3 with all the squad dying too....?

I created a Shepard just to fail the SM.  I wanted to see the ending in the game for it.  I knew when I did it, I would not be able to import that Shepard in ME3.  Not like I don't have nine other Shepards ready for import.

It's pretty obvious that you can't import a dead Shepard to ME3, but It would be nice that if that's the case you could see what happened to the galaxy after your death.

I think the Arrival failure does that just fine.  That is what would happen.  Reapers win.

From what I understand is Casey Hudson wanted this to be the story of <insert your Shepard's first name here> Shepard and it wouldn't be the same playing as another character. It might be different in future Mass Effect games when Shepard isn't the main focus.
