Skyrim gave freedom, but at the cost of plot relevance, at least in my book. Love the game to death, but each quest line was completely independent of choices made in others, for better or worse.

Fallout: New Vegas did things perfectly. Faction alignment that affected how people reacted to you, epilogue slides that showed how your actions changes things in the future to follow, multiple endings to the main story line depending on the actions you took, a final boss battle you could talk your way out of if you had the right dialogue skills and, of course, super mutants.

I think if DA3 did all of the above (minus this Super Mutants... just call them Ogres) in the world of Thedas and with a story that blows the doors of, then we'd all have a heck of a time playing it.

Yeah, right. That doesn't mean that the genre shouldn't strive for as much freedom as possible to play out your character the way you want to, or that extremely roleplaying-restrictive junk like Dragon Age 2 should be rewarded.

I don't know about Fallout, but in doing so the Elder Scrolls series has always had to cut a few corners. Such as story cohesion, voice acting needs and generally has a weaker writting than any BioWare game - Dragon Age 2 included.

Old BioWare games didn't bother with Full PC and NPC voice acting / Cinematic Dialogue and Graphics as Dragon Age, so they could keep story cohesion and strong writting.

Yes, RPGs have to strive for as much FREEDOM AS POSSIBLE.

And that means a balance between industry standards (voice acting, graphics, whatever) and the desired freedom.

Because otherwise you've got Peter Molyneux' Fable.

We can all dream about the future, but that doesn't change the present. CRPG gamers make do with what they have (limited freedom), not whine about what they wish they had(complete freedom).

Though one question remains, can Android Hell protect us from the Computer Gamemaster's Skynet?

Only if you roll a Natural 20 and have a Wisdom of 20 or higher.

And if you don't, you won't be able to scream as you die since the lack of a mouth.

Are we aiming for a Trope Overload?

I would suggest checking out Fallout: New Vegas. Or even some of the old Fallout games for PC. If you liked Baldur's Gate, there is a strong chance you'ld like the old Fallouts. Fallout 3 isn't bad... but it didn't feel the same as the old games. New Vegas did a much better job capturing the humor, the story and the choice.

And I agree that non-voiced offers a lot more flexibility to story telling. It makes me sad that resources are being poured into this that could be spent elsewhere to beef up a game.

Aren't we always?

Look at your window.

Is it the apocalypse yet?

So I don't have to stop being a cranky fool who doesn't play RPGs because the setting isn't good ol' sword and sorcery.

I want to create my own character. Not this BS about being forced to be a some kinda weird protaganist.

If you want complete freedom, try tabletop RPG. You're in the wrong genre.

I enjoy a character that talks, just give me all the character customizations in skyrim & add the origins from DAO then take a cue from saints row 3 and give us the option to pick 6 voices  - 3 male 3 female and now we have a character we can enjoy :D

Let me Repeat

- Character Customization of Skyrim (Scars,Tattatos,War Paint,Race,Facial and Physical Features)
- Origin System of DA-O ( and make it help and hurt our adventure, make it matter, not just some unique lines of banter and one or two things tossed in our face at the near end of you pick a certain origin)
- Voices ( 3 Male (Orlesian,Antivian, and Ferelden) & 3 Female (Orlesian,Antivian, and Ferelden) )

Oh and On origins in DA3 I really hope one of our origins is for the mage as a Refugee or an Escaped Prisoner
 :D I <3 Mages :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

But back to the thread topic lets predict what origins they might give us if we do get the origin system back !

I think you should be able to adjust the height of your character, and if he is scrawny or buff because everyone in the game, of the same race, are the same height and they are all kinda buff. Can you please make elves look like they used too? I like the tattoos but the forehead and nose area is weird. Also, more eyes colors like purple. Warrior Mohawks would also be great. Oh and please fix the ears, they look gross. Oh and full body tattoos! Please make our main character voiced again! I loved that. In DA3 you we should start off as an Orlesian with an accent. Also the DA:O graphics, those made the characters look more real and showed more defined expessions.

Also, I think that you should have the Warden and Hawke as companions. Another thing that would be cool is more companion rivalry and betrayal. If you are a mage and you allow a templar in the group, he could possibly betray you and you go to some mage prison or something. Also, if you decide to romance companion A and not companion B, then companion B could have a relationship with a different companion. Oh and you should be able to choose your race in this one because I believe it would be a lot more interesting if it was an affair that effected every race and every race had its heroes instead of it being mostly humans... and an elf story would be cool because then you could have like a three way war with like elves, chantry, mages, slavers. A qunari character as a choice would be cool too because you couldve grown up following the Qun but are breaking out of the path and finding yourself.

Please keep the fighting quick or have an option to change it because I love the quick fighting, especially as a mage. Please no guns, that always ruins a series if you ask me. When the Fable games started including guns, they went down hill. I think more intense puzzles would be great too.

Lastly, I like the origins dialouge more because you could always just talk to them at camp instead of having to wait for them to like you more or anything like that. I like that the DA2 dialogue didnt allow talk while you are out of their area because that was annoying if you accidentaly clicked on a companion in origins. I like the idea of having a camp. It was a pain to have to go to each individual characters house/hangout spot just to talk to them.

As for companions, a half Qunari half Human dude with normal black hair, pale skin, horns, black body tattoos, and purple eyes that dual weilds or has a bow. That would be awesome. An ex-paragon Dwarf with a huge axe or war hammer. An Orlesian chavalier. A dwarf rogue from Kal Sharok. A Mabari in which you can choose if its white, black, brown, etc. A Dalish Elf mage from that place in Rivain where humans and elves lived together, who has been posessed before but found a way to be un-posessed, who is also a "dreamer". Ohgren too, gotta love him! This would be GREAT :D

Edit: More emotional moments! With background music too! Also, more dark, creepy moments too. Like Hespith and her song in the deep roads. Things like that made Origins for me. The creepy dreams, the scary dragon, the brood mother, Hespiths nasty song, and quests I wouldnt want to do in the dark... bring scary things like those back!

Maybe we Should rename this thread Development theories, rather then plot ones, since as is it beginning to shape into what we really want in the next game

I do have an idea though, I would love to see the ability to command minions

Minions, Unlike Companions, Would just be generic allies from whatever groups we befriend that we can call on in our time of need etc....

also make it so we have the option of becoming a gray warden, but are not forced, and saturated every single line of dialogue with as much emotion or apathy to the situation ( you know apathy if your a cold stone killer) OH GIVE US INTERRUPTS!!! Hahaha (my favorite was punching Zeead best paragon interupt EVER)

oh enough fan boying.... back to the point

-Give us a Approval system again, but also a friend meter,
A Companion will react to you in how much they like you and how much they approve of your actions.... and they affect each other.... like being a friend might make you turn a blind eye to certain things, but not everything.....but consequently the more you are their friend they big the impact on your scores doing something morally wrong to them or something against their values....
but approval is a different story also, with it you despite you rivalry, will be understood by them why you do certain things... that is why they should co-exists, a dynamic approval/friendship system

-then we have combat, I like the old combat, but as fast as it is in DA2, but with more realistic death( like a dagger strike doesn't make a person explode like in fallout with bloody mess :D )

- Give us back the old crafting but add to it, give us more things to craft like they did in skyrim

- OMG bring back the old darkspawn, but redesign the mouths of hurlocks and genlocks, but don't give the horse teeth they did in DA2

- Okay, next we need are Brontos, the old version of the walking dead , ghostly spirits, and finally I want old Ogres and the return of brood mothers, not to mention shrieks and finally add a shriek emissary type .... OH one last thing the current emissarys in DA2 had no explanation, suddenly all genlocks are gone from the base game, emissarys now look like arcane horrors with elven ears(with no explanation in the codex EVER)

I agree. Something like the end battle of DAO where you play as general and have the option to call up Dwarves, Elves etc.

Yes. I want to become a Grey Warden again. I'm such a Grey Warden fanboy lol

Yes, make companions react like they would do in real life. It brings realism and it's fun.

-then we have combat, I like the old combat, but as fast as it is in DA2, but with more realistic death( like a dagger strike doesn't make a person explode like in fallout with bloody mess :D )
I rather see an improvement over DAO's fighting style rather than an improvement over DA2's fighting style.

- Give us back the old crafting but add to it, give us more things to craft like they did in skyrim
This is a small thing, but it would def please some gamers.

- OMG bring back the old darkspawn, but redesign the mouths of hurlocks and genlocks, but don't give the horse teeth they did in DA2
Totally agree. Darkspawn in DA2 look ridiculous. Bring back the old Darkspawn Bioware.

I want every enemy in DAO back and that's why I agree with this point.
