I like to think it's some kind of ****ed up racial thing, mixed with some actually practical attributes, kinda like Miranda.
But then again, after witnessing how something is FULLY EVOLVED or DE-EVOLVED (yup, walters, these things will remain to haunt you), I don't think that Mass Effect's views on genetics should be taken too seriously.
