LIs turn off their translators for a bit?

Since there are universal translators for everyone in the Mass Effect series, you never get to hear the LIs speaking in their own language. Aliens obviously didn't grow up with English, and even humans in Mass Effect may have grown up speaking a different language.

How would you guys feel about Shepard asking their love interest to turn off the translator just for a little bit, so s/he can hear their real voices, for those to whom it applies?

Interesting idea. Doubt it gets done though.

The universal language of loooove..

Heh, it would be cool but after replaying (and watching others replay) KOTOR recently I am so thankful for translators in the ME universe. Alien languages are rarely done well but I guess if the number of lines was small it could theoretically be done.

It would be a nice cultural exchange to learn bits and pieces of Shepards's LI's native language but not sure if we will have time for such things in ME3.

I'd be all over it, but I'm a total language nerd.

I'd laugh if one of the human LIs turned out to have a language other than english as their primary language, which also happened to be a localization language. Which means that localization gets english for that scene.

...I'll admit I wanted to put that wierd idea out there for quite some time.

Hnnngh this.  If I have to hear Garrus saying "OOCHA CHACKA PACKA" over and over again.... well, my hatred of hearing looped gibberish alien dialogue will combine with my intense love for Garrus and a minor black hole will be created.

Though if it was for a short scene, I guess the dialogue wouldn't be able to overstay its welcome and annoy me.  Still, that's pretty far down on the list of interesting scenes I'd like to see with the LIs.  Not a bad idea, though.

I'm not a fan of the looped alien languages thing in Kotor either, but it's for NPCs and happens very often in that game. I think a short scene with a major character could work.

I think the best way to make it actually work would be for it to be the beginning of a cutscene, wherein the 'alien' character is speaking and it could be implied that Shepard either a) has picked up on a bit of the language or B) is vastly amused because they have no clue in nine hells what their friend is saying. No impact on gameplay, more of an amusing or touching moment between lovers and/or comrades. No actual dialogue wheel required.

Would be nice little thing but at the same time it's almost sure voice-actors would butcher these lines spoken in foreign languages horribly (talking about Earth languages).

Yeah, this.  I think it'd be romantic.  The whole siha thing in ME2 made me go a little gooey.  This'd just be more of the same.

If they came up with an actual alien language and did real translations, not just looped pseudo-speech, I'd be interested in hearing alien languages in the game in general (so long as it's appropriate and feels natural, not forced in any way).

It wouldn't make any change if Shepard romanced a human though :P.

It would be a nice touch. The VAs behind the alien LIs certainly have the acting chops for it.

That would be a very interesting option! I'd love to hear how the aliens sound without their translators. It may not happen, but it's a cool thought.

Nice idea, but I'm honestly still trying to figure out how the translator causes their mouths to move correctly.

I actually, really like this idea, Seeing as Quarians are a more a Gypsy style people I would love to hear them talk In there native tongue... thou Those translator must be buggy with Quarians now that I think about it with the "Bosh'tet" term.

Shepard should at least know liara's native tongue do to all the ME1 melding they did even if not LI.

I'd be all for this, though I agree with others saying that if it happens I'd like a real language and not crazy moon speak. I'd especially be interested in the turian language given their different mouth structure - I'm unsure if even speaking the word "Shepard" as we can is possible for them.

Suddenly the Reapers deploy a massive EMP and it shuts down all electronics in that area. Including translators.....

A good premise I suppose :P

It would be nice. It'll add a little uniqueness to the interactions. At the very least, have non-human LI's use terms of endearment in their native languages. Similar to how Merrill refers to Hawke as ma vhenan in DA2 or how Thane refers to Shepard as siha in ME2.

Man would he get pissed...
