Hi all.
Sorry for yet another request for help in this forum but it's my first time playing BG, and it's been quite confusing at times. I'm now having a problem finishing ToSC as Aec'Letec seems to be bugged.
I've entered Ulgoth's beard after finishing Durlag's tower and encountered the cultist that steals the dagger, dispatched his friends and then visited Hurgan in the tavern and he tells me to go and stop them.
So, I went to the building to the west, killed the guard and his friends, went inside, killed all of the ones in there. Then I went down the stairs and talked to Tracea Carol, and kill her too. Aec'Letec just sits there and spams Silence 15' radius. I killed all the cultists around him first (also tried killing them after, too - he doesn't possess any of them), then I attack Aec'Letec, and kill him.
I don't get any exp for him when he dies and Hurgan still seems to think that the cult is still there. Am I doing something in the wrong order or is this possible to get round in any way?
I'm playing completely unmodded v1.3.5508 (from the 4 in 1 compilation which I presume has the most recent patches?)

There are 3 different groups... the inn, the storehouse and the demon's chamber AR1002.

There aren't any cultists in the inn, and I've got rid of everything in the house to the west (both levels).

I'm sorry to say your presumption is wrong: with the 4 in 1 boxset you'll need to add the TOTSC patch for your BG1 game and the TOB patch for your BG2 game. Only the downloadable GOG-versions comes fully patched, if you've bought discs, they still need the patch. So, it might be a bug.Skarwael wrote...

Bioware (now EA) doesn't host the patches anymore, but the can be found on sorcerors.net. In the Technical Support subforum on this site, you can find the links. I'm not sure how patches interact with a game that's already underway.

Son of Imoen is correct about the patch and it does sound like the global variable limit bug. It is unlikely that the patch will correct your game now as there will be at least one variable missing. Options are either to do the fight again after patching or to set the variable through the console/swordcoast keeper (since you're not using Tutu or BGT).
If you need to set the variable(s) I'll see if I can create a suitable save and identify names/values.

Thanks for the replies.
Patch didn't work. (sigh) Though I'm not totally devastated, the fight sounds ridiculously hard and apparently there isn't any loot. I would have liked to have seen the ending movie, though. Can't see anything on youtube. Ah, well.
I've now got to go to the palace for Sarevok's coronation(?)... wonder if anything else will be bugged. Wish me luck.

There is no movie for Aec. Hurgan just gives you a reward/item if you asked and clears off.
As I understand it;
When the game progresses more variables are added. The unpatched game can only hold so many variable values and TotSC added more than this amount. So anything you did early will be OK and the more recent events will be the problematic ones. The more thorough you've been the worse the problem gets.
btw there are quite a few variables for AEC, e.g. in my quick test there are 5 CULT* variables, 2 HURGAN* variables, 11 SPRITE_IS_DEADCULT* variables, SPRITE_IS_DEADTANAR, SPRITE_IS_DEADTRACEA and TANARXP. At a guess you've lost at least the last one.
