Well, this should change. I would like to have pure homosexual characters in Mass Effect. It would increase replayability with another gender and it would be more realistic. I know, we don't need realism, but these kind of things increase the immersion in the game, IMHO.

homosexual and heterosexual characters are different than bisexual characters. I have confidence that Bioware knows not to screw with existing established characters sexuality like say Garrus and Ashley. New characters like say James Vega can be what ever they want him to be

In what fundamental ways are they different?  Besides bi character romances being open to both genders vs. a gender check....

It's kinda weird what people think. My friend was like "oh man, I got a female Hawke and I romanced Isabela and it was hooooot!". When I asked about male to male he responded with "what, I'm not gay, in fact, I have rivarly with all the male potential LIs" And then he stayed slack-jawed when I told him that you can have a rivarly romance....

Anyway, people don't want same sex romances because only from the idea that someone who thought that they were their best friends, are gonna make a move on him/her. I will admit, I'll probably gonna go more times with female/female than male/male romance in ME 3, but it's not gonna happen because I don't like gay romances, but because I just don't prefer it...

I rest my case.

I fully agree with the OP. The romances were great, but the way there were handled was ridiculous.

You can't be friendly to some of them without falling into a romance, and if you decided you didn't want to romance them you could no longer follow their stories. Jack is the biggest example, she clamps up tighter than a clam if you don't want to romance her. Same thing for Garrus, if you are male and can't romance him, he gets stuck into calibration before femsheps who do romance him.

However I have full confidence that Bioware improved that, considering how widespread the criticisms were.

yeah, introduce new characters for s/s romances.
leave established characters alone.

s/s supporters get s/s romances, everyone else gets their characters to stay consistent. everyone wins.

What would you lose if Ashely was available for s/s romance in ME3? Ashely in your game would still be in love with your ManShep, nothing would change. ManShep and FemShep don't exist in the game at the same time. If she's in love with ManShep, she ain't in love with no one else. She stays consistient. There's no loss here, only gain for gay players and people who enjoy lots of option and like to role-play walkthroughs that don't reflect what they are in real life.

Or how about, all these characters that are supposedly your 'awesome best buddy bros' were always bi but never told you because they knew how much of a bigot you were and preferred a normal friendship rather than telling you and you immediately thinking that they were going to come on to you all the time.
