I live in a country with a low next to none tolerance of gays and lesbians. Still, I don't care what developers will do with the game, as long as I can be 100% sure that my next chosen dialogue option will not trigger a gay relationship. I wanna be sure as hell in that! That's why it would be nice and cute if the corresponding choices would be highlighted blue and pink, according to the protagonist's gender.

Bolboreta.

Really where did Jack say that?

I read it as she was saying she had been with both girls and guys in the past but wasnt going down that road with FemShep because she wasnt really interested in her.

Lets stay on topic shall we?

@Plum.

Actually. It was established in the first game in the lore that Turians and Quarians were NOT sexually compatible with Humans due to their different type of DNA.
It was actually outright retconned in the second game to allow the Garrus and Tali LIs
.

Then that's stupid and wrong. I don't like it when lore or things like that get changed just because people want things to be a certain way.

Well............That's Fan Service.

Please, do not start another flame war :( This thread could be closed and we cannot discuss these aspects in the "fight for the love" thread.

I consider sexuality a main aspect of every person in the world and I like to see that reflected in the games I play. I never was uncomfortable with Leliana's or Zevran's bisexuality. Also, I never was uncomfortable with the fact that we could only romance Morrigan or Alistair if we were from a certain gender. It's more realistic that way: we cannot romance everyone just because we want. I want that in Mass Effect: differences. I want to play as a male to romance certain characters, as a female to romance other ones, and I want s/s romances, bi romances and everything.

I admit we cannot establish for sure the sexuality of every ME character, but some of them have hinted us: Jack said she is not "into the girl club", Garrus blew off steam with a female before, Kaidan talked about a girl he loved... Of course people can change (or be bi from the beginning), but I think discovering their sexuality after so many years would be weird.

This. This all the way.

Jack, when asked about previous relationships: "What, like a boyfriend or a girlfriend?"
There's also Tali's desire to link suits with a Shepard of either sex, and Miranda's consummate involvement with the protagonist.

I'm not saying any of these suggestions say they are bisexual. What I'm saying is they can be perceived as indications, and there is no explicit mention which can contradict those indications should BioWare choose to elaborate on the characters.

People do tend to put way too much emphasis on sexuality in describing character.
What you have come to believe ideologically has no correlation with whose hips you'd like to straddle.

Regardless of peoples different interpretations of the characters.

I kinda do put quite a bit emphasis on a persons sexuality if I'm pursuing a relationship...  In a romance game it's logical to me that there are goes/no goes.

Sorry for not being that eloquent right now. I just woke up.

A little side note. I also support peoples right to be homophobes and racist just as much as I would defend the rights of gays or people of other "races". Rights are rights IMHO... You have the right to be stupid or illogical too... Just try to be polite...

Everyone has its own game and vision, but I think we all can discuss it without labeling everyone.

But you also can't say that those hints are entirely definitive. The characters could be lying to you or suppressing their own feelings. They could also simply not feel the need to mention to a prospective love interest that they were intimate with someone who was not the same gender as said love interest. My point here being that I, at least, would find it difficult to think of it as 'weird'.

Edit: Like, if a man were to tell me that he'd been with X number of women in the past, but neglected to mention Y number of men he'd also been with, would that make him any less interested in both genders?

seriously, what should anybody care about someone's sexual orientation, it's none of anybodies business anyway. the sooner you homophobes grow up, the better
I just saw in the news yesterday that there was counselling for homosexuals who want to turn heterosexual... WOW! having a different sexuality shouldn't mean you're an outcast or it's forbidden...shame on the churches too for denying homosexuals the right to get married (WHICH IS A HUMAN RIGHT) and denying them the right to have sex

you obviously didn't read most of this thread.

no, I only read parts, what I'm trying to point out is that why should we even talk about sexuality, this forum is just gonna attract a flame war. And for those who feel that a sexuality will alter the characters characteristics, they are simply WRONG. In the other hand on what the discussion is about, going into a romance by accident, that's unterstandable, it's an interesting point to discuss

@FERMi27, I'm sure Bioware will correct those dialogues in ME3 and you won't be ninjamanced by anyone. I would love they fixed that for all LIs. I also hope the s/s romances in ME3 don't make your country forbid the game.

@FitScot, I'm not sure, I remember reading that. It's a bad thing, though, I find Jack a perfect character to be bisexual.

I do not understand. Enlighten me.

Has the topic not been discussed a thousand times over already? If the OP feels necessary to start a new topic regarding this, at least think carefully about its title before giving off the completely wrong impression with its intentions.

I agree. It was hard to dream up something polite, but I think you've nailed it. ;)

@Big Bad Wolf

Can you quit it with the stereotypes please?

Seriously.

A person's sexuality is NOT an integral part of their personality or character. Yes it DOES affect how we develop but it is not the core part of who we are.

I am gay. But I would describe myself as a writer, and gamer before I described myself as gay.

I would be the same kind of person (stubborn, opinionated, intelligent, kind hearted) if I was straight. Being gay doesnt change the parts of me that make me fundamentally me.

I am a guy who just happens to be gay.

Can we please get back onto topic?

@Bolboreta

Lol. Okay.

Does the for the love thread get trolled 24/7 or something? Why in the world do you guys troll threads that are exressing concerns over how S/S romances and romances in general will happen? I agree the thread title is silly but really the thread has been pretty civil IMO.

Actually it does get trolled pretty often, from what I can see.

Can we discuss how a cross-species romance would also be an absolute disaster for the characters?   Seems to be fairly related.

Perhaps the word stereotypes was inaccurate but the overall point stands.

Your apparent belief that sexuality is central to who and what a person is is erroneous; maybe I am just misunderstanding.
Your sexuality doesnt change who you are. It doesnt change who I am. It doesnt change who anyone is.

Personality are partly genetic and partly learned during early childhood.

By the time you are old enough for sexuality to become a factor (either way) the parts of yourself that make you, you are pretty much set.

Thats my point.

I'm used to ME as a straight game. I don't want it to suddenly and unintentially to colorize, if you know what I mean. that would make me reload the save.

Can't a bisexual man love a woman? Not to mention Rahna was integral part of the Vyrnnus story. It wasn't like he started talking about her to prove anything "Yo Shep! I'm gonna now talk about one of my teenage crushes to you 'cause ya know I'm such a straight playa playa and had a crush on a girl!". It's not a hint of Kaidan's lack of interest in men. All this is is a hint/proof of Kaidan's interest in women. If I give you a hint I like pizza there's no a hint that I don't like cheeseburgers in such sentence. Pretty much all bisexual men have history with women to talk about.

First of all.

It is not a "straight" game as you can clearly and blatantly play as a lesbian FemShep from ME1. That is most definately NOT straight.

And second.

The problem of unintentionally romancing someone you dont particularily like or want to romance isnt a problem restricted to SS. Its a problem overall with ALL the romances.
