Same-Sex Relationships could be an absolute disaster for the characters.

Bingo. Majority of the characters in ME never specify their sexual orientation.

Ant does that mean that in ME3 they'll all turn into bi? That feesl too imposed, too... unnatural?

No because it's already confirmed they won't all "turn" bi. Casey confirmed it.

Yes, so people seem to be freaking out over nothing.

Were I really somehow trolling, I think it's pretty safe to say you would already have devoured any proverbial bait. You seem mad.

I don't know the definition of troll but trying to get a thread closed probably means you are one.

I think you are mixing sex with a relationship. People can have a relationship without having sex.

So two men of same gender and species can't have a relationship without sex either?

And what would be the point of having a "romance" with either Garrus or Tali if you weren't in the least bit sexually attracted to them?  Is it a step above friendship but below sexual attraction?  Fandom seems to think otherwise.

Why would anyone want that? Image IPB

Oh in the love related to friendship/relationship kinda way.

I kinda have this "rating scheme": friends, close friends/family, loved one (GF in my case).

Sure I can love a friend a relative but it's definately not the same kind of love as towards a loved one.

Really? I must have missed it then. Well, if he confirmed that not all will turn bi, then I can wait in peace for the release :)

I will say this though as long as the way I view a character in there sexuality stays the same I really don't care. I think that's a fair request considering people want to have certain characters be the way they see them.

They'll always be the same character.  Just don't hit on them, obviously.

And I'm not sure what we're arguing about quite yet -- we don't even know who the s/s options even are, only that that there will be s/s options.

That's fine and dandy as long as ninjamancing is fixed will it be though? who knows.

There you go again, ascribing motivations to me that do not actually exist.

I think the term is celibacy or sexual abstinence or continence. One of those I think.

Yup:

Some game sites saying "previously straight chars now available for both
m&f chars" not necessarily true. Will have some new LI's in #ME3

twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson/status/70154686367404032

Whether this means none of the previous characters will be available as s/s LIs in ME3 or only some (as "not necessarly true" can mean either "not true in all cases" or "only true to some"), what it definitely means beyond any doubt is that not ALL characters are bi in ME3.

PlumPaul82393 wrote...

Casey confirmed there will be no ninjamancing when it comes to s/s romances:

Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game.

twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson/status/69833443067969536

So unless you tell Kaidan you think his ass looks great in these new pants, he will never say anything to you romance-wise.

The Garrus and Tali romances are certainly not one of sexual abstinence or continence.  They are in love with Shepard as a person, not as a human, because it is physically impossible for them to have sex in conventional means.  This doesn't stop the unconventional means, however.  There IS attraction there.

So why can't someone of the same gender and/or species drop their barriers and be attracted to Shepard, as Garrus and Tali both did?

Well personally I think I would lack quite a bit of intimacy in a sexless relationship but maybe thats just me.

Oh we'll never agree on the interpretations of ingame characters or how to define a love relationship vs. friendship.

Way too subjective to each person.

Both are interesting debates though. There are some good points around which I'd never have seen myself.

Right now... I need my coffee and maaaaybeee a little ME2 game. Cya :)

I have to agree with the OP.
In games like Kotor and BG2 there was a lot more build up. It felt like my heroes had to work for the Romance and Mass Effect feels like they are all waiting their turn to jump Shepard.
And the most annoying part is, if you don't do the romance you miss alot of good dialogues.

For all the new poeple who start with ME3, they should wirte a good build up for all the romances and of course I want to talk to people even if they are not a romance option for my Shepard.
I think if they had made this in ME2, Jacob wouldn't have become the most unpopular character.
It's a shame.

I never said they couldn't. I'm fine with S/S romance, just not current LIs becoming bi.

As in having attraction towards something they never showed any interest previously? That's Tali and Garrus. Sorry, but it's the same.

The choice of word 'colorize' is the best part. Suddenly I'm picturing Shepard picking up Crayolas to paint the Normandy

Alright OP, I get your point with Garrus's perpetual calibrations in ME2 (like the clock image) but how exactly is the existence of an optional same-sex romance a problem to you ? Also, do you understand why when your first thread ever is titled this way, people are likely to think you're trolling ?

Even though Garrus and Tali magically became interested in Shepard in ME2?

Once again Casey confirmed there will be much more friendship in ME3 with non-romanced characters :)

writing team has some great ideas for breaking the mold on char. interactions, which should add to non romance relationship.

I would love to have more friendship with my squad, as Shepards of either gender miss out on some genuinely good bonding dialogue that's not always sexual in nature.

How gay relationships will most likely be in ME3.
