Well im not saying it needs to do the same damage at range, maybe shoot a guy 3 times with a scimatar (or however u spell it) rather than charge and blow his brains out with one shot, im not asking for an over powered weapon, maybe just a more flexable weapon, since i have seen vanguards charging in with snipers id like to see and be able to do kills at longer range than right now

I don't want the range changed, it is too satisfying as it is.

Yes they all benifit, but to me shotguns in most video games feel unreal, why would you have a gun with such limmited range in ME3 along with some awesome new close range attacks? The shotgun should still do X2 damage at the range it has in ME2 but id like to be able to kill some people within a reasonable mid range fight

What would distinguish a mid range shotgun from an assault rifle in this case?

A shotgun with a realistic range would be likely a one shot kill but be affected by a lack of ammo while an assault rifle would pepper enemies to death and have plenty of ammo to do it, but wouldn't be nearly as fast at getting kills at a shotgun.

So the shotgun in  your vision is basically a Heavy Weapon.

No, my idea of a shotgun is what an actual shotgun is supposed to do.

I shouldn't have to make out with my enemy before I can blow them away. I should be able to do it from a good distance.

Damage drop off should be considered as the entire shot wouldn't hit the enemy, but that shouldn't be too drastic.

Obviously at close range it should work as it does now.

But shotguns definitely need more range than they have now.

Oh, by the way- Don't try to spin this into a "Shotgun is a Heavy Weapon" thing. I'm not stupid.

I want more realism and less game when it comes to the range of my guns.

What about from a roleplaying perspective? seems kinda unrealistic to have such a limmited ranged weapon to me. or would some ingame mods to change the range from ME2 range to like level 1,2,3 and 4 kinds of range be ok since you wouldnt need to change them and you could majorly buff the damage rather than the range?

Weapons get idealized for gameplay, engaging multiple opponents 10m-40m away with a sniper rifle isn't what I call terribly realistic but I don't see people complaining about that. It could be that the firepower pack might be the precursor for what we will see in ME 3, maybe more so in regards to shotguns.

God, I hope so. The GPS was such an improvement over other shotguns for me that I REALLY hope this is how they're working shotguns for ME3.

And this. In the future, you'd imagine that all shotguns would be shooting quite far and not be ineffective past 2 meters.

In video games the combat environments are condensed. Weapon range is condensed for this. The Effective range for real life AR are around 300m.

Then the shotgun is little different to an AR....terrible.

Well, I have plenty of vids with shotguns as do others; they are very effective. Practise with them.

Oh! oh! Im hoping for some range increasing Mods, not super far like ME1 (tho thatd be sweet!) but maybe double the range and a decreased spread, thats my hope for shotgun mods

Tho i hope they are longer range to begin with anyway tbh

Shotguns are not meant to be fired at longer range.

In real life, shotguns can shoot at a MUUUUUCH farther range than video games depict.

Hell, ME1's shotguns were more realistic than the usual "Can only shoot 5 feet in front of you" shotguns you see in other games.

All depends on the ammo.  00 Buck is good for about 30 to 50 yards, depending on barrel length and choke tube, if any.  Slugs are considered acceptable at 100 yards since they retain their energy much better than shot, although accuracy at 100 yards leaves a lot to be desired.

Good point.  I don't actually remember taking more than a 150 meter shot at any time, in both games, with a sniper rifle.  In reality, that rifle would be intended for targets at 400m to 800m.

I actually hope shotguns are more like they were in ME1. I dunno, they just felt really weak and clunky to me in 2.

I think shotguns should be very different from each other. Very close up and high damage shotguns to high clip lower damage and further range shotguns. With speciality shotguns like the geth shotgun are pretty cool.

ME2 shotguns are named after swords - Katana, Scimitar, Claymore - to hit someone with a sword requires to get close or you'll be hitting air instead. It's a gameplay decision, and the only way to give shotguns (and the AR and SR) strengths and weaknesses. Removing range out of the equation renders weapon types useless - they'll be cosmetically different only.

I'm a bit worried about those melee attacks though - it would be terrible if one would be better off stabbing the lot to death instead of blowing their brains out.

I hope they stay away from GPS-like shotguns. Mass Effect means small maps and NO (real) long range fights. So, it's a simple gameplay decision - shotguns ought to have the smallest effective range, but be the best at melee/close range, because all weapon classes must have some purpose.

As for what I want? I want a shotgun that will one-shot-kill a standard enemy from melee range on Insanity. Anything else does not really matter to me, at all. So if they bring ME2's Claymore back, I am good to go :D

then call it whatever you like.  I don't mind there being options and speciality weaponry useful for certain missions and still retain balancing compared to other weapons.  They should make that shotgun do even less damage to armor.

My point in my post was that I want the choices of shotguns to be very different from each other.... I don't want 5 shotguns that do the same thing.
