Bioware, just tell us whether ME3 will or will not be on Steam

You know, it would be so embarassing to wait for something for 9 months(not for a baby, thank God), only to find out that it won't be available on your favourite game manager. Tell us now, so we can decide what to do: preorder on Origin now or wait for the console versions.

2) Why would Bioware know? That's an EA marketing decision.

One - cuz this thread draws attention. Two - you seem to know an awfull lot about how things work. So you think Bioware employee's have NO idea, where will their game be available for purchase?
I work at an IT company in development. Even if I knew what decisions my marketing department made (which I usually wouldn't unless it directly affected my work), I would never be at liberty to discuss it with our customers.
Considering that EA distribution is an entirely different department in an entirely different company than our Bioware developers, I suspect that they wouldn't touch this question with a 10 foot pole even if they knew.

EA is rolling out a new digital distribution channel with many features similar to STEAM. It appears as if SWTOR will only be availalbe digitally through Origin so there is widespread speculation that all new releases will also only be available through Origin.
Personally, I think EA marketing is probably going to test the waters on that, absolutely. Selling through a site like STEAM means lost revenue and why develop your own digital distribution channel for your products if you're going to also use 3rd party agencies.

1) Why not bump the existing thread?

Crysis 2 has been pulled from Steam to be Origin exclusive, BF 3 is to be Origin exclusive. I see ME 3 going the same way. If they want to compete they can't exactly be offering a cut to their competitor can they?
Also, Sins of a Solar Empire is Impulse exclusive, so... precedent?
Or perhaps a very strong indication of what to expect.

Ah it sounds like EA does not want my money. I was going to try out SWTOR and get BF3 now, hells no.

Also it looks like EA has their own steam-like system. I do think EA should still sell their games on Steam and to compete should offer slightly cheaper versions on theirs.

but selling through steam guarantees more sales anyways...some people just love steam so much they won't get a game if it isn't on there.. I have trouble seeing EA not go with steam since its just extra $
True. But if they can get Origins up and running that will mean extra $ in the long run.
The problem is that ME3 on Steam means more $ for BW, whereas a successful Origins platform means more $ for EA. I don't pretend to know the details of the relationship between BW and EA, but I expect that negotiations have taken place and may still be ongoing. Even if an agreement/decision has already been made, we won't hear about it until the marketing team have figured out how to dress it up in multicoloured bull****.

well with SWTOR its an MMO that needs mass patching systems. so they could be working the patcher through origins the way most MMOs do it with their "launcher".Whatever666343431431654324 wrote...

also, while its possible for EA to make all their big games origin exclusive its a dumb buisness move to keep it all on origin. they might actually lose sales because its not on steam, granted people here are most likely going to buy it somehow if not available on steam, but theres plenty of people who'd only buy it on steam. steam is a huge market so they'd be pretty dumb not to. thats my hope at least. the loss in sales would be alot more than their slight loss in profits selling it through steam.
steam is no different than any other store. it'd be like not having it available on amazon. but dumb buisness moves arent that rare these days so who knows

It would appear that EA wants to take a heavier portion of the digital profits so to speak and therefore will have its own site to push them, which for a company as large as EA... kinda makes sense.
to me i have no devotion to steam and very rarely use it, but do time to time, same with EA store, i've used them time to time toos o it doesn't matter to me in the long run

Well more money for Bioware is more money for EA...as well...EA OWNS the studio now.
The money to be made from one game - even a blockbuster - is not much compared to the money that can be made (and saved) by having your own distribution platform. There are other factors as well; it's not so simple as you make it sound.

I'd buy it if it is not on steam, I just wont buy it if it requires Origin. With EA's trackrecord on DRM I just wont put their version of Steam on my system. It might not be horrible now, I don't know but I'd expect some lame ass draocnian DRM to come around it an update and I just don't want to have to deal with that. Thing is all my saves are on PC, so if it requires Origin I don't see myself buying it for PS3 or Xbox any time soon.

Realistically I cannot see ME 3 appearing on steam. I have to be honest this is the most moronic business decision I have ever seen. It won't get me using Origin in fact it has the exact opposite effect of actually making me never want to touch Origin. Still it's EA's stuff and they obviously don't like making money they may as well stop making PC games if this is their attitude because they aren't going to sell many with it being Origin "exclusive".

It only works if you don't lose sales. Even a 20% drop in sales makes it so it probably isn't worth the hassle when they could have gained a lot of the market by just giving deal through origin like the digital deluxe exclsusive. Now if I want the extra gear/mission or whatever is there I have to buy them on there own.
