Was just interested to hear what people believe the meaning of the mass effect series is, or what meaning it has for them.  And by meaning I am talking about possible philosophical or social messages or implications raised by the series.

For example, I am really interested in the whole underlying philosophy of the reapers, and the links which Shepard seems to intentioanlly share with Christianity

BW is trying hard not to have a philosophical message or life lesson in it.

Even if they havent (and I believe that they have got them in there) the series still will mean different things for different people

My reading on the meaning of mass effect is "don't trust artifically intelligent machines from space that look like giant cuttlefish."

I think the last thing on Bioware's list of things to accomplish for the Mass Effect 3 is to give it any meaning.

"Meaning" and "Message" is often a matter of perspective. I don't really think there is much to it.

Blue = Democrat = Paragon (pro-diversity)
Red = Republican = Renegade (racist)

I don't mind it too much most of the time, but when the writers have game characters spit the word "politician" like it has a bad taste I find it rather hypocritical.

I guess it's "Fight even if the fight is hopeless."?

The Reapers are really interesting. In some ways we are heading there. If the Reapers are the end result of a species who didn't wanna know hunger, fear, pain or sickness and just live forever then i can see how we are heading there.

We wanna cure everything, cancer, hiv/aids, and we wanna advance more and more at the technology front. In the end, we will end up being more machines than nature.

But i just play the Mass Effect games for it's amazing universe and story.

Birth control. Too many people with access to advanced technology is a bad thing.

Democrats and Republics are pretty much same thing.
Politicians.

Also Renegades aren't racist, just little pro-human which isn't a bad thing.

Also meaning of Mass Effect is that humans can have sex with aliens.

You can fight like a Krogan, run like a leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard...

Meaning is that species of every race must work together to defeat evil.
No matter how big the differences are.

I've always thought the different alien races represent different facets of the human condition. If you view it like that then the current state of each race then becomes ether a warning against our baser instincts or an example of what humanity can achieve if we can reach our true potential.

I might be reading to much into it though.

I don't think you are. In fact I think it's pretty obvious that this is what BW were going for.

Here's a meaning for you, even if people look and seem different there fundamentally the same and you might find you have more in common with them than people you thought you knew.

Another one, governments will ignore impending doom.

Lastly I've always felt it was sort of the story about family not in a literal sense but, your friends and the people on your crew can be come the only family you have. Ironically the galaxy you are trying to save doesn't give a damn about you.

i hate people who read too deeply into things.

and the shepard is jesus thing is silly. you can find a way to compare ANYONE to jesus. just because a hero is reborn doesnt make the comparison to jesus anymore relevant, hell the "hero being reborn" cliche has been around for far longer than jesus has lol
