Unless he looks like this no.Image IPB

Also, give him a fake American accent and he constantly splips back into his natural Australian
At the end of the game, turn him into an Asari... ahaha.

I just want a Clint Eastwood character type.

Shepard is your Clint Eastwood character type, or as close as you're going to get. Clint's characters aren't second-fiddle types. Dirty Harry and The Man with No Name are the stars of their films, not some sort of backup, and they're the defining "Clint Eastwood" action roles.

I say this having watched Magnum Force last night, and Dirty Harry last week - basically Renegade Shepard has an awful lot of Clint Eastwood-esque lines - those two film pretty much brought the "kiss-off line" from a dumb joke-y thing found only in James Bond movies, to being a standard action movie thing. Can't you see RenShep saying "Do you feel lucky, punk, well do ya?" or "A man's got to know his limitations.". I can, and RenShep says a number of things long those lines. Paragon Shep even has a few lines like that in ME2, where he's no longer the big softie from ME1.

The only real difference is that neither character is a leader, nor gives inspiring speeches. Garrus is also somewhat similar to Dirty Harry, though a major difference is that Harry hates the system and bucks against, but refuses to just throw it away (he'll go outside it, it but only temporarily), because he (kind of correctly) believes that if you throw the system away and do what you want, you're going to a very dangerous place.

So I think yet another character who was like this might be pushing our luck.

As for did anyone want James Vega, I'm pretty sure the answer is clearly no, but no-one wanted Grunt, nor did many people want Jacob or Miranda or, I'd guess, Mordin before they met him (I remember no-one was particularly excited by "Salarian Scientist" on the boards before ME2 came out).

So did I want James Vega? No.

But I'll be surprised if Bioware don't manage to change my mind on that. I mean, when was the last time I disliked a Bioware character to the point where I'd rather not have them in my squad? I can't think of any. Zevran and Anders were boring and not very well written (esp. Anders), but they weren't "OMG KICK THEM OUT!" material.

Plus, if we CAN kick out Vega, who cares? If we can't and he's annoying, though, jeez, Bioware will get an angry letter, I can tell you.

depends how good he is. I used Miranda and Zaeed a lot in my playthroughs, towards the end garrus and grunt became more useful though because of AP and incendiary ammo. they need to give human players more interesting or useful powers.

actually, i find most of the human squadmates to be better written than the alien ones.

like tali, she's not that interesting as a character. yeah, shy girl nerd-bait but other than that she's a walking codex for her race. thats not interesting.

making a character an alien doesnt automatically make them interesting, i didnt think grunt was more interesting than any of the humans in ME2. hell even jacob was on par with him. grunt was a cheap wrex knock-off who was just "hey im a krogan lol :D"

the reason i like wrex and garrus so much isn't because they're aliens, its because they're interesting characters, them being aliens is irrelevant. people who want aliens shoehorned in for the sake of having aliens are pretty lame.

zaeed was actually one of the most interesting characters IMO. I made a point of going to engineering every mission to hear another two war stories. would have loved to be able to actually talk to him though.

i wouldn't mind having someone in my squad who is some what normal, instead of another person with a problem.

You're talking like everyone has the same opinion as you, Zaeed is the only human squad mate I do NOT like, and if you think DA2 was a fiasco, why do you use Hawke as your avatar?

As I said before, Garrus is dead in some people's playthroughs, so they need a sniper.

Playthrough again and do it right if its bothering anyone, if I had anyone on my squad fall I would have straight up started over and do it right. Sorry you aint upgrade.

James Vega looks stupid, I hope he is the first person to die in the game.

Well, firstly I love jack, second I kind of let jacob get hit in the face by the collectors...in every playthrough so I need someone in the armory to stand there and not contribute.

But I wouldnt mind just having my whole ME2 squad back...never played ME1(Yeah,yeah) so I got no connection to any of those characters (except team dextro) but if the question is did I want someone to replace anybody then no,jacobs death went largely unnoticed and I dont feel I need anyone else.

I admit, I am finding out that I am a pro-human more and more. But not like The Illusive Man or Cerberus. I so far don't have any views on him as I do not know what he is like. And judging him now would be shallow and unfair.

I'll start out by being blunt. In most people's games James Vegas will rot on the Normandy. Why do I think that? Because that's what happened with Ashley, Kaidan, Miranda, Jacob, and Jack.

"MIranda was the most used squadmate in Mass Effect 2" (Brenon Holmes).

So much for that claim.

In my ME1 games, it was Garrus, Tali and Wrex who "rotted on the Normandy", and in my ME2 games, I look Miranda and Jacob to most places. And I know quite a few other people who prefer the human team members. Miranda and Kasumi are a very popular combination, as are Zaeed and Jack. Your assumptions are pretty much wrong.

Well yes, we don't really need James Vega, but the only thing I regret that he takes a permanent slot away from other *human* team members. And hey, he may turn out interesting....

We don't need James Vega at all, it's really just retarded. You come into the third game of an RPG trilogy, you should expect to be clueless, your fault. Deal with it. If they really needed something to help new players, why not have it in a reminescent scene with say the VS for instance? Basically talking about the Reapers and the Council and what they used to stand for before Shepard went with Cerberus. Bam. You've already got the new player up to date when Shepard explains the Suicide Mission, and more than that, they can already see the emotional conflict of a character. There, no Vega, and now we get to have Grunt on the team as the heavy Soldier, and a Krogan on the team as there should be. So I really have to wonder, why the hell is Vega there? It pisses me off to no end that I'll have to deal with some new guy I care nothing about when it could be a Mass Effect 2 Squadmate with me. Unless he has some godlike writing, I'm afraid Mr. Vega will find himself quite... Eliminated, by the end of Mass Effect 3. *Evil laugh and trot off in the distance with Liara and Garrus* Sorry to hop on the Vega hate boat, but really, he's entirely unnecessary. But then, what can we do about it? Absolutely nothing, and that's the saddest part my friends.

I didn't want anyone in 2 not named "Wrex, Tali, Ashley, or Garrus" yet it seemed to work out fine in the long run.

If you recall Jacob was the generic human male in Mass Effect 2, and it is general knowledge that he LOVES to go into the vents. :innocent:

Jacob was the lone exception out of 12 well written squadmates.

If Vega turns out to be the same exception, then I'm pretty sure I could live with it given the sheer amount people that are going to return in one capacity or another.

Yes. BioWare wanted him. I see a pattern here: Kaiden (Virmire), Jacob (vents), James (some nasty death involving a word starting with V)...
