Did anyone WANT James Vega?

And besides, I quite like the fact that he's a pugnacious (not exactly 'handsome', is he?), tattooed lug, as opposed to all the good-looking humans already in the game, plus he's voiced by a guy who's a surprisingly underrated actor, and as it turns out, a bona fide game and Mass Effect fan.
With all that in the mix, I expect that James'll fit into things just fine, and be a great addition to the cast. Wasn't that interested when I first saw him, but now I'm really liking him aboard the SR-2.

We don't want squadmates that are boring, and human squadmates are ALWAYS boring.... and he's going to take a squadmate slot that could've been given to a xeno that's automatically attention getting or, if you absolutely have to have a human squadmate, SOMEONE WE KNOW. Someone we're capable of caring about?

I always love it when someone tries to speak for me <_<
I don't find the human squadmates automatically boring, and I don't see the logic behind saying that an alien is automatically more interesting. Especially since in ME where the only difference really are only the looks.
I too think we could have done without new squadmates and could have just stuck to the 15 we already had but it's understandable why BW created new characters and to be honest, I really don't think he's the most useless squadmate. My ship, which should have stayed my ship is the most useless squadmate and that's one squadmate slot really nobody needed filled.
I might not use Vega, but that will have nothing to do with me not liking him,I just barely use snipers. Oh and for the record? Whenever I did in ME2? I prefered Zaeed over Garrus...

Nothing wrong with having a 'PoV' ('point-of-view') character in the game, IMO - not only do they get to provide all the exposition for people joining the trilogy with ME3, but they also make for a good counterpoint to Kaidan/Ashley/Liara/Garrus/Tali et al, who're all old hands when it comes to Reapers and the like. Keeps things fresh, having a newbie's perspective on board.

This, pretty much. They have to introduce a couple new characters, if for no other reason than some people won't have many squaddies left after their ME2 playthrough! But it's also a good tactic for bringing new players into the universe - something which they have to attempt.
As for whether I'll use him much, it depends on a lot of things, mostly if he hits it off well with my Shepard, and what kind of talents/skills he has - I'm sure I'll use him for at least one mission, because I try to use all the squaddies at least once.

As many agreed, so do I.javierabegazo wrote...
Why do we need to be given characters we "want"?
Why can't we just play characters that written?
We are playing someone's vision of a story. All the branching options being part of that vision.
So far it's been a great ride.
Anyway, this is a game about humans. Yes there are reapers, yes there is a citadel. But in the end it's all humans, from the lead, to who you work for, to who you have to save.
There is no logic in having only aliens in the ship.
Sure, some are freaking awesome. But you also need perspective to make them so awesome. You need normal characters.
In a world where everyone is excentric. An excentric character, is just a normal character.

Give Vega a chance, I don't think painting him green and giving him tentacles instead of pubes automatically makes him cool.

I think he wants to imply that not only gays and bi's were pandered to with the creation of Vega, considering that he's a pretty big Vega fan.Ailith430 wrote...

I always have liked the human squadmates, but whether they came with me on missions was always depending on their abilities and usefulness in combat. I may like their personalities, but often I find that there are other teammates who have what I need to compensate for my class. For example, ME1 had me running around with Garrus and Kaiden a great deal of the time because of my Vanguard preferences and Ashley as a result was not needed as often. ME2 left Jacob redundant because I had the same abilities and it was just easier to fill the slot with someone specialized differently. None of it meant that I didn't enjoy talking to Ashley nor that I didn't admire Jacob's ethics from a safe sleaze-free distance.
Oh, and I'm soooooo looking forward to having Vega on the team. Beat up a bunch of batarians with a television? I like him already!
