How did Grandpa Simpson put it?

"A little from column A and a little from column B."

People, stuck in a groove,

This forum has become somewhat akin to a time loop methinks. The same old same folk, endlessly treading water, endlessly feeling the need to reiterate the negative. But with nothing to say that hasn't already been said a hundred times or more, yet imagining their dismissal of the game is somehow a constructive move forward.

I wish it was but no, here we go again.

The funny thing is you usually see the same drones on the other side in every thread too.   People stuck in a groove indeed.

No, looking back through the forum over the last 2 months, the number of posts started with titles that are effectively numerous takes on "DA2 is rubbish", or "is DA2 rubbish ?" (usually as a loaded question, ie the premise being that it is. Case in point, this very post is biased towards the negative in its wording) far outnumbers the posts with titles praising any aspect of DA2

The 'other side' as you put it are more often found replying in defence in these posts, rather than instigators of posts themselves.

That's a function of the irritated gamer syndrome though. By that I mean: most gamers who like the game keep playing it and (mostly) gamers who don't post on forums here or elsewhere. Mostly if you like it you might post a few times about what you love about the game but you won't frequent all too often.

E.g. I quite like ME2; hence I haven't posted about it pretty much at all. I could complain that it' not an RPG, but oh well.

E.g. I like DAO. I could praise it at every instance or I could criticise DA2 at every instance. I seem to have done the latter far more than the former.

Disappointing FAILURE. It's not that bad, I even enjoyed it... sometimes... but still, too bad for such company like BioWare

Disappointing. I didn't think the game was bad. I would rate it about a 7 out of 10.

Initially, I couldn't get past the first 3-4 hours of the game. I put the game down for at least a week because I felt completely detached from what was going on in the game (go here, kill this... go there, kill that... running around in the same city with no story progression).

If you had asked me then, I would have told you the game was flat out bad.

But, I went back to the game, and I got past those initial couple of hours and found myself enjoying the game more as I went along. Now, I've played through the game from start to finish twice. Is it bad? No. Disappointing? Certain aspects of it, yes. However, I enjoy the combat more in this game than in Origins, which I suppose is pretty important considering how much of it there is.

Can't it be both? The game's just not very good.

Both really. It's disappointing as a sequel to Origins, and it's incredibly sloppy and unpolished.

It's not really bad, but it's still Bioware's low point.

Some people downright hate this game, but is that because you think the game is actually bad or are you just disappointed it wasn't another origins?

As evidenced by Mass Effect 2, which isn't much like ME1, but managed to be a fun, high quality game that had great combat, even if the story wasn't the best Bioware has done (IMO), no, I could have been perfectly happy with DA2 as a different kind of RPG.

I am not happy with DA2 on its own merits, not in comparison to any other game.  It was rushed, the quality of quests, graphics, and the main plot wildly varies at different points in the game, and Bioware should not get a pass for putting out a half finished product just because they've put out good products in the past.

The game is playable, and there are good things about it, but as a whole, it's definitely a disappointment.  I just wish I hadn't paid for it, because I don't want to support the practice of selling products that the manufacturer *knows* are not high quality.

I wouldn't say it's a bad game, your milleage may vary, but generally it ranges from 6,5 to 7,5 in review's scores, so it's above the sufficience for most people. However, if one had high expectations after Dragon Age: Origins, then yeah, you can call it disappointing.

Depends what your standards are. It has a 82/100 metacritic score which is Bioware's worst RPG yet by a considerable margin, but compared to most games it's probably worth picking up.

It's disappointingly bad, and badly disappointing.

But the absolute worst aspect of the game is its fans.

A game that I still enjoy after several playthroughs I have a hard time calling disappointing not to mention bad. Sure, there are things that could have been better but that goes for every game.

Disappointing, for me at least. I hoped that DA2 would go into the same direction as DAO, old school "feeling". Needless to say it did the opposite, the writing could be better too. It's not that good as I hoped it would, but still an ok game.

Disappointing was the recycling armor, recycling, dungeons ,couldn't customize your characters and Act 3 just seem rush.Other players find other reasons why this game was disappointed.Other than that hell i enjoyed it. Not a bad game its 8.0. Origins 9.5..Others may think otherwise.

I love the phrasing of the question. It reminds me of some of Colbert's questions ("So...Bush...great president, or the greatest president?") It disallows any sort of outside opinion. For instance, I neither thought it was bad nor disappointing. Despite flaws like recycled levels, I liked it more than Origins. Why? Because the main character felt more like a person and less like an avatar. He had a personality, a family, relationships both platonic and romantic that actually seemed to mean something, etc. DA2 put an emphasis on Hawke's internal struggles versus his external ones. We don't often see this in games. As such, I really enjoyed it. It made me feel things, think about events, etc. I like a game that challenges my preconceptions, that makes me get attached to characters, and presents me with flawed people making bad decisions for the right reasons. There are so many layers to the narrative and characters.

It was a bad game IMHO because by the end of act 2 it became less a fun game to play and more of a chore to finish. I ended up turning the difficulty down to casual just to get past all the monotonous wave trash fights. I ended up quitting the game in act 3.

Weeks later I though maybe it was my class choice, same thing happened with a new class, once I got past the Arishok fight, it felt like the game should have ended there. Act 3 is just really bad IMHO.

I've suffered through some really buggy games, even some bad games, but I finished them eventually. DA2 is the first game ever, that I have youtubed the part of the game I couldn't bother to finish.

It just wasn't fun, even the mini-game of collecting cool magic items and messing around with builds wasn't there. It was a very streamlined game with a bare minimum of itemization. I understand Bioware is all about the story and cinematic presentation now, but really...........cutting corners on the simplest of thing like items to find?

Kind of a bland game, with none of the other side features like lots of items and interesting class builds to keep you going if the story didn't grab you.

I actually like DA2, the combat is not the best but it's definately better then origin. I also like the VAs in the game they really made a great job especially both fem and male Hawk. The night and day circle was also nice and fun to play out. But, in game item lack pics and all other stuff I'm to laxy to point out for now. In general it's an OK game. But, it didn't have the greatness from origin. Some of the storyline was just to simple, stupid and boring. But, i will not pay for any further DLC for DA2. This is a close chapter of my life. I have moved on I suggest you all should do the same. There are tons of othere great games out there like the Witcher 2.

Like all games, it has a mixture of good and bad qualities
Overall I consider the good outweighs the bad but other people have different opinions
I do not consider it to be as good as origins
