Yes, please.
This was extremely lacking in both ME games.

A question- would people prefer to have squad management (whilst on the Normandy) accessible via the pause menu (á la DA:O) or from some sort of physical object on the Normandy (like the computer in ME2)?

Either. Both are good ways to do it.

Agreed.

You should be able to access their powers etc. through the squad status screen at your private terminal.

What would you do with such a feature? The only time you need to level up party members is if you bring them with you, in which case the game gave you the opportunity to level them. The only reason I can see for needing this would be you wanting to have all points allocated at all times. Am I missing something?

What's the point?

You only need to level them up if you're taking them with you.

I was referring to specifically when on the Normandy- sorry the question wasn't very clear.

Pause menu. Much rather not having to wait for loading screen if I'm on another part of the Normandy, suddenly remember I didn't allocate points, and need to go to whatever floor has the computer terminal.

Not being a dick, but why would you care about upgrading squad mates on the Normandy? Before Landing seems perfecty fine to me, its not like it effects anything but combat anyways.

Yep, that should be an option in your personal computer.

Let's have both. For immersion, I'd rather it be object-based, for convience, the pause menu. If I was forced to choose one over the other, I'd go with the pause menu. But ideally, I'd like both.

I would be happy if we could look at squadmate powers like you can during missions - the ME2 squad status screen has too little info.

I don't think leveling on the Normandy would be necessary though; you can do that before starting missions anyways (like weapons and armor). That's good enough for me.
