I think this is plausible. Even though the Thorian is (supposedly) dead, remember in ME2 Shiala said infected colonists still had symptoms when they were close to each other, like heat and pain, because of the spores. That shows me that, regardless of the Thorian's status, simply having its spores in your system will have an effect. I don't see how it's such a stretch that the spores could be studied and it could be discovered how to manipulate their chemical/neurological proesses. Or something.

Without extensive scientific research, I think that the only way to cure it at this time would to cut the indoctrinated person off from the Reaper influence cold turkey. You would need to get that particular person/people away from that specific Reaper, tie them down and let the it just leave there body. Like the person that is stopping there drug habit cold turkey.

Not likely. The only reason Shiala got out was because the Thorian's control overrode indoctrination. Since the Thorian's dead...or at least at the bottom of a very large hole...that's not going to come into play.

ExoGeni is studying it's corpse and its spores....so I wouldn't be so sure of that.

It has been awhile since I played ME1, but I don’t think there are any similarities between the Thorian and the Repears. They are 2 different races. They obviously work the same way as far as indoctrination so it’s not going to hurt to study the Thorian on how it works just to see if there are similarities but still it’s 2 totally different beings. The Thorian is Organic base where as the Reapers are machine base.

Well there we go, it even fits symbolically. Organics > Machines. Just as Shiala was 'overwritten'.

I like the Thorian idea and hope that the Mass Effect writers do as well.

Since I just finished ME1 I got a refresher course on this one. It doesn't matter how far away the Reapers are because the indoctrinated don't need to be near them.

When the Reapers left the galaxy after harvesting it, Vigil noted that the indoctrinated just sort of stood there until they died of thirst and/or hunger and/or the elements.

Only the Thorian has been shown to get rid of the effects of indoctrination.

I'm willing to bet the development of a counter-measure to indoctrination is a important plot element.

Considering the Thorian is a bit dead, it might be a long shot. It is interesting how it's the only documented example of indoctrination being reversed though.

Well the main nerve cluster was dead, but apparently there were still miles left of the thing. If they could replicate the spores without the bad effects it could be potential treatment and/or a way to ensure that people aren't secretly indoctrinated Reaper spies. *puts on tinfoil hat*

Yeah but this is assuming exo geni took samples before they left. Its been years since that creature died. It's almost definitely decomposed by now.

And on a side note this kind of science was done before and it didn't end well.... Just saying

Well, back in ME1 I had hoped killing the Reapers would reverse indoctrination (since the Saren/Sovereign's shields thing seemed to imply that there was a mental link between the indoctrinated and a Reaper) but ME2 seems to have scrapped that idea. Unless blowing Reapers into microscopic pieces instead of merely killing them would make a difference?

There is no hope for things like the husks/collectors/keepers, but there does seem to be a slim hope for beings that have retained their brain function like Shiala.

The thorian being dead doesn't leave me with much hope that it will be able to help, and I do think it was one-of-a-kind. Plus, it is kind of impractical. Get all indoctrinated to become slaves of a Thorian creature, then kill the Thorian to free them.
