Simple Question to Bioware, will the PC version of Mass effect 3 have DX11 Support and all the advantages that it brings?

I personally don't think ME3 will support DX11. Maybe DX 10? Even though i have a good Geforce GTX 470 1280mb videocard.

I just think they haven't put any thought into this.

They did for Dragon Age 2, so I don't see why they couldn't for Mass Effect 3, especially as ME3 is built on the Unreal Engine 3, which has already had DX11 features added to it by Epic.

The support for DX11 for the Unreal Engine was added in March this year. The work on ME3 has started way before that. I have no knowledge or understanding of the technology but it might be just a matter of updating the software, or it might not be possible. Maybe utilizing the new DX11 features would require a lot of extra work on the textures and models that have already been created.

This is quite useless speculating about as it may very well not support it. Unless you can pull a confirmation from the devs- who knows?

I'm pretty sure I read/saw somewhere that it's going to be DX9.

That would be nice. Also, cutscenes that aren't rendered in lol480p or whatever the crap that was in Me2

Yeah, I would like to see it happen. Dragon Age 2 felt like a dumb console buttonmasher in combat and still it had something the currentgen consoles can have wet dreams about (DX11) so it would be quite nice to have it with ME3 since it doesn't look that it's going to feel like a dumb console buttonmasher (that much)

What is DX11? Is that the same as multiplayer? If so then yes, ME3 supports multiplayer confirmed.

I have Direct X 11 on my laptop. My laptop was released in Amazon.com and other places for online purchase only this pass January. So I hope that ME3 will work without any problems.Posted Image

No but I have great long term memory and I remember asking Jesse about it to see what version of the Unreal Engine we would be getting for ME3; I had also seen the latest Unreal demo.

How I wish ME3 would use that engine

As long as the X360 remains ME3's primary userbase, we'll never see anything useful even if certain DX11 features are used.

When compared to other crappy ports (Bioshock 2, Crysis 2), Bioware is doing well.

That was an incredible demo. Too bad we're going to have to wait for the two or three generations behind consoles to catch up before we'll get anything that awesome on PCs. <_<

At least the team is upgrading the base engine for better shadows/graphics
It may not be what they showed in the UE demo but its better than having the same thing from ME2

Well, Witcher 2 looked amazing and it was only DX9 I believe. To be honest I will be content with high res textures and cutscenes that aren't all blurry.

DX11 is a marketing bull.

Compare Witcher 2 (DX9-only game) to Dragon "button awesome" Age 2 (DX11 game).

Unreal Engine 3.5 is not compatible with DX11 .. so the answer would be no.

DX11 features are overrated anyway... you generally only notice them in screenshots and not actual gameplay since the human eye works in funny ways when watching fast moving objects.

I often switch certain games between DX9 and DX11 and can't ever notice which is better unless I just stand still and stare closely (or take a screenshot).... almost never notice while actually playing though.

It's a whole lot of hoopla that contributes very little to be honest... I'm severely underwhelmed anyway by it... sufficiently so that I couldn't care less if a game is DX9 or DX11.

As others have mentioned, I'd be bloody content if devs just used high res textures more frequently... Dunno how the console gamers can stand the low res textures they're forced to stare at in many of their games (high res texture pack is basically a must for Dragon Age 2... and Witcher 2 with high res textures is glorious.... and it's such a simple thing to do but devs are too scared / incapalable of doing it for the consoles due to the console's god awfully small amount of video RAM).

DX is a tool one can use to create visual effects. How companies use this tool has nothing to do with the tool itself.

Anyone who remembers Crysis - one of the very few games that took advantage of the latest DX10 features - will tell the difference between High (DX9) and Very-High (DX10) in both the visuals and gameplay.

it would be nice if that were the case I think at best maybe DX 10 but I don't think that DX 11 will be supported from what I have heard the game was completed last Christmas already so they are taking time to polish the game and make a few tweaks.

Not likely. I'd be satisfied with built-in anti- aliasing though.

Probably not, because they use Unreal version March 2010, which doesn't support DX11. Heck, they just added DX11 support with UDK Beta march 2011.

@RyuGuitarFreak: DX9 doesn't support multisamping AA with deferred engines, but post-effect AA (MLAA, FXAA etc) would work.
