This is a stupid question but I've always wondered what is exactly happening during the encounter with the "biotic god?" When he turns his back you can perform a paragon option, you push him over and he suddenly becomes disoriented and sleepy. I thought this was hilarious but I don't really get why these things happen from a simple nudge in the back. I might be missing something really obvious.

He was sufficiently strung out that he just passed out. If you send him into battle, he goes in on adrenalin and gets knocked out forcably instead.

I figured Shepard was doing something to his suit, like causing an emergency sedative to be released into whatever gas the volus is breathing.

I view it kind of like somebody who's absolutely drop-dead drunk -- while they're on their feet they think they can keep going, but then you lie down or something and all of a sudden ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
