OR they are grouped. Biotics share one cooldown, tech's share another, and basic/class powers share another. We haven't seen enough to know for sure though.

I bet they're grouped powers since a lot of people complained about that in ME2, but to make up for that in ME2, Bioware gave each class ammo/grenade powers that don't need a cooldown as compensation. So either way its a plus.

I hope you're right, because that would be awesome.

This was already mentioned on page 18 but I think it wasn't added.
About power unlock requirements:

Brenon Holmes wrote...

Poked around a bit, so apparently the pre-reqs in the form that you guys have seen at E3 aren't around anymore. They're level based unlocks now, but from what I understand it's fairly generous in that most of the abilities unlock over the first handful of levels or so.

Hmm..strange.

I'll add this, then, as well as the dev promise from the previous page and the "every main character is returning"
feature.

In a couple of hours.

Sorry the silly question: the information included in the first post is dated in some way?

But the problem with the global cool down is that you tend to spam individual powers. I think that it would be an interesting idea to cool down powers based on predetermined categories, like biotic and tech powers, that other members have mentioned. That is just from my personal experience.  I can understand balancing issues if you have individual cooldowns for each power, but I think some hybrid would create an acceptable medium.  But I didn't mind the individual power cool downs from ME1.

I liked the beginning of your post, but then you fell into the trap of suggesting split cooldowns based on tech/biotic status.  That doesn't make any gameplay sense at all.  As the classes stand in ME2 (and will likely stand in ME3), splitting the cooldowns by tech/biotic status would overpower the Sentinel and not really affect anything else, depending on how bonus powers turn out.

You're right, though, that global cooldowns reward spamming a single power again and again, at least for certain classes.

Like I said there maybe balancing issues with the gameplay mechanics, but do you have any ideas on how to tweak this system, or is the current global cooldown satisfactory enough.  Maybe you could have a global cooldown for  the sentinel but say if you use a biotic power there is a cooldown for your tech powers but instead of the full cool down it's 75% and vice versa?

My suggestion would be to have two cooldowns for each class: one for the class's signature power and one for all of the other powers.  Like any other changes, this would require some pretty staggering balance adjustments.

I don't have a problem using my squadmates for quick power combos.  I just feel like the global cooldown system rewards players for using one ability over and over again.

That will work, so as a soldier I can use adrenaline rush and not have to worry about waiting to change my ammo powers depending on the situation during the heat of battle.

Eh, grouping the powers would make the classes unbalanced. classes like Adept, Soldier and Engineer, which use biotic, combat and tech cooldowns exclusively would still have completely global cooldowns, but something like the Sentinel would be able to use a tech power immediately after a biotic power, making them... more effective, I suppose, in combat, if you understand what I mean. Unless they double the cooldown times for the hybrid classes, which would slow down the combat quite a bit, it simply wouldn't work.

I imagine what they mean is that the heavy melee and grenade, and possibly unity powers would run on seperate cooldown timers from the rest of the powers, or even no cooldown at all.

I realy hat that. a one cool down for almost every thing realy bad move. It should be two or three difrent cooldowns so you can use several power not one at a time. how ever thought up a signle cooldown should me fired from every working on a game again.

Really?

Dude, this is the Internet. You have to be extreme.
Being fired isn't enough. That guy should be dragged out in the street and shot. Or maybe boiled in oil. Or drawn and quartered. Or a combination of the three.
There, my e-peen should be about four inches longer now.

Or 'drown' them in that water that has ****loads of oxygen in it so it just makes them feel like they're drowning.
