really bioware really? You have to have facebook to complete the game? WTF.

Of course you won't HAVE to use Facebook to complete the game, don't be daft. They've already said that the best ending is possible entirely in the single-player campaign.

Besides, most people have Facebook or at least some kind of social network profile anyway. I don't know why you'd be against social networking when you use BSN - which is a form of social network.

I use both Google+ and Facebook, so how will that work for me? lol

All of you, in your first or second playthrough will achieve the perfect ending, whether you have wasted days on the Facebook or iPhone app or not, so take a deep breath and relax.

Indeed.

Well, unless I'm aiming for something imperfect. Been known to. :P

Meh, everyone is bound to at least attempt the perfect ending in one of their first playthroughs

Maybe the third or so for me. It depends on the implications of "perfect", really, since we obviously don't know yet.

I'll refrain from turning your wonderful topic into another "let me save them" discussion when we clearly have so very much of it in another thread but if it involves things I perceive as especially unrealistic it might be the fourth or fifth playthrough.

Of course as there's no real way of knowing what we're getting going into the game, it could all be null and void as I'll aim for the best and grade what I think of the 'best' from there.

Now I'm going in circles. Look what you've done.

I don't mind, this thread is about discussing potential features after all.

A small update about the MP blog. Chewin was working on it, but Javier decided that Bogsnot's FAQ thread was enough. I'll see about having a talk with him to see how I can incorporate his thread when I have the time.

Oh, OK, cool. Yeah, Bogsnot's is pretty good of course. Anything that's also covered here is a bonus though, I would think. More coverage is always good.

Well, the topic has cooled down...a lot, I could definitely handle it now, especially since I am going to attempt to build a team of contributors once all of the blogs are properly migrated to Google Docs...

But Bogsnot's thread seems rather complete, not sure what I could add.

Yeah, it's... definitely cooled down. I was firmly convinced I would take a hiatus from the site when it exploded but somehow the desire to help answer the genuine questions kept me here, heh.

Well, the changelog is essentially finished, what I will see about doing now is spicing up the other blogs.

I'll also be on the chatroom if anyone needs me

EDIT: Url removed to not get the place crowded out of control

AUTOMATIC VICTORY

Nah just kidding, anything you can through social media is probably the same for all networks - i.e. whatever you can unlock through Facebook will probably be the same as whatever you unlock through Google+. It could be like extra credits at the start of the game or something, or an extra skill point. Probably something pretty trivial.

My screen name is anonomous, which is a major difference. Can't figure out my real identity from BSN.  Some of us might be in school and are trying to keep our web presence to a minimum when we go out there and search for jobs.  Heard enough horror storries about HR drones simply discarding otherwise qualified applicants because of a quick google search.

There are plenty of valid reasons NOT to have any sort of real life information on the internet.

I am starting to wonder:
a) How much of an advantage the sideshows really give
B) What level of completion and perfection you need to win outright in single player.

If the sideshows don't really give big advantages then it doesn't really matter much anyway - if they make a big difference, would it be possible to totally flunk the game and still get a perfect ending provided you did enough outside of it?

Conversely, they say it CAN be beaten fully in single player, but what degree of success are we talking; do we have to make the "right decision" on every single thing (Harder than beating the suicide mission without casualties), and how much do past decisions factor into this (if you lost key crew members, or made bad choices in past games, could the effect roll over so that a perfect ending is impossible without outside intervention).

It might even be that going from a perfect start, a perfect ending isn't hard, and the bonus points merely help mitigate damage caused by flunking ME1 and 2's choices.

I'm guessing, that the entire thing with the social networks and smartphone apps is just there to make it "easier" to get ultimate ending and not necessary.

So if people don't like it, they don't have to play it. I thought that was clear already.

I think that stemming from the idea the Bioware/EA feels the need to give all of these special handicaps to help casual players get better endings for ME3, combined with the fact that a perfect ending is indeed possible without any of that help at all, it might just be logical to infer that it will actually be fairly difficult to get that ultimate or even penultimate ending all by yourself.

That's something I look forward to, every feature that's there to help casuals that I won't be taking advantage of is another promise of a more engaging and challenging experience without them.

The only thing you need to put on Facebook is your name. You can hide your profile to prevent anyone looking at it or adding you.

The horror stories are only about people who post racist/sexist stuff on their FB profiles, or have photos of them doing questionable things. I'd argue that a FB could help an applicaiton - it can give a far more accurate idea of who are and what you're like to employers. Besides, if you fiddle with privacy settings you can ensure no employer could see anything on your profile.

However, I get your reasoning.

It might be that its harder to get the best ending if you haven't played the previous games, so they provide something to help newer players and to draw them into the universe more.

That's true, but it still implies that there's a bar that's been set higher than they anticipate the average player and newcomer might be willing to deal with, which is what I am looking forward to.

Of course, they also said that Readiness is one of many separate variables that in the end affect which ending you will have achieved in your playthrough; it's not the end-all be-all to your success in the campaign in the end anyway but I have a feeling it's a pretty significant factor.

I recall a dev saying that if you don't explore the galaxy completely, you could have a very sad ending.  I have a feeling that the readiness factor will be refleced simply in the amount of the galaxy you explore. There is also this:

"If you just rip straight
down the critical path and try and finish the game as soon as you can,
and do very little optional or side stuff, then you can finish the game.
You can have some kind of ending and victory, but it'll be a lot more
brutal and minimal relative to if you do a lot of stuff," he continued.
"If you really build a lot of stuff and bring people to your side and
rally the entire galaxy around you, and you come into the end game with
that, then you'll get an amazing, very definitive ending."

- Casey Hudson from the Escapist.

If my task would be to suggest rewards for ME-related smaller games to attract people there, I'd say alternate appearances for Garrus and Tali (large fanbases, no alt. appearances claimed for CE) and N7 assault rifle (not in CE, as I recall, and used by many). Note that ability to get the good ending left untouched.

You know I kinda woulda thought you'd wanna strike a balance between a having a galaxy world tour and stopping the reapers before they decimate everything.:? Pity the game doesn't track time.

So wait; Bioware is stating that in order to achieve total 100% Perfect Paragon etc you need to play something on Facebook? Only tools are jumping on that bandwagon and I for one refuse to do so!

Bioware; don't drop the ball on ME3 or a lot of people won't give two sh*ts about your games anymore.

I think they meant as in side-quests which is what they've been saying for awhile now.
