 Today I installed Mass Effect 1 couse I wanted to try the game and all that. The installation went pretty well, having gone through that I wanted to start the game, and that's when I got this message:

Device does not support 4 component FP render target format.

Nothing in what you wrote means anything at all to me. It might to an official support tech, but you aren't in an official anything here. For that, you go to EA. For the local Self-Help in the forum, you read and follow the directions about completing a standard problem report.

The word "render" is usually seen in discussion of graphics, so the error might relate to something such as an attempt to use a really old and really weak IGP device instead of a real video card, but without the proper report, that's just a WAG.

The author never responded.  I could have been wrong about him / her being another misguided soul having been scammed into believing that Intel knows anything about 3D games, but I doubt we'll ever find out. 

Meanwhile, it is summer, and so far this June, the summertime "weekend hiatus" has been lasting four days, from Friday through Monday, when the archives are the best way to seek answers.
