 I have the pc verson of mass effect. I have goten the saferun.exe and the dill error. i have used the work around hear

I have got to step 7 and go to the config it opens then imedaly crashes and i get the normal windows xp error when
something crashes.

I have a intel quad core i beleave at 3.4 or 3.5 ghz overclocked.
i have 4 gigs of hyper x memory.
and i have 2 nvida geforce 9400 gt in sli mode each 512 MB
I can play bioshock 2 on all high graphics with out it laging behind in my max resoulution 1080x1020

1) Read this thread and post the full info we need to help, drivers are a must info especially.
2) Overclocking and ME don't always mix well.

Also i thought i had a better procesor but when it comes to a quad it dosent realy matter with this game i dont think. And i realized after i woke up in the morning today writing this post i had the settings put back to normal and turned on the ai speed step utility.

The 9400 GT is rather weak, and it doesn't run at all well in this game with the very latest Geforce drivers.

The 9400 GT is a renamed 8500 GT, a borderline Low Quality item five years ago that is now only in the class of current business, Low End quality cards.

I still do not understand about what you said was broken or why anything named "speed step" is relevant to anything in this discussion.

"Speed step" is what Intel calls it when their processors automatically downclock when they aren't under load. For example, my 2.4 GHz Q6600 processor is currently operating at 1.6 GHz.

Gorath's right, that graphics card is old and weak and if you're running the latest Nvidia graphics drivers they can cause problems. Uninstall your current drivers and install the 258.96 driver version. Also, overclocking your CPU with such a weak graphics card is absolutely pointless, and can actually cause problems in some games. I would recommend you turn off the overclocking.

i did turn off over clocking.
And thease cards are nice i think i can play Bio Shock 2 on the higest graphics and i can also play supreme comander 2 on the higest and SC2 with 1000 units plus on each team when their are 4 players gets prety graphis intensive.

It certainly wouldn't play BioShock 2 well on the highest graphics settings; strategy games like Supreme Commander are more stressful on the CPU than the graphics card but I still think you can't push a high details and high resolution.

it got past the config the game run after i pres eney key i get a error
General Protection fault History:Address=0x1eaa0 (filename not found)
and the game crashes

I do have 2 of them in SLI mode. Also i get 20 FPS on high settings.

2 in SLI mode? I missed that part. SLI mode would provide a performance boost, but it can also cause problems in games, especially in a game as temperamental as Mass Effect. It would be much better to have a single card like a 9600 or 9800 GT.

I tried something elce which mite of been a possible fix. i set ME to only use 1 core and got the same error

yes i did. does not work atm im extracting every rar sepratly to find each broken one and hopefuly ask someone to get it from their DVD and sent it via email or i think xfire can do it. i allready found 1 broken rar on the disk and still serching one of them is data03.rar

Rar? What are you talking about? The problem wouldn't be with the game disc itself...

well the rar files on the disk have broken files and the reason some people run in to the safe run error is beacouse of broken files and a .rar file is like a zip file

Where did you hear that? As far as I know each disc should be identical.

My disc is probly then beacouse i remember after extracting the rar files i saw some errors after using 7zip so that means the files is broken or croupt then on my disc. This link mite also explane .rar definition of rar file

Why are you extracting rar files from the disc in the first place...?

What happens when you just try to install the game normally?? This game was originally designed for xbox but came out in the heart of XP time so unless you have something odd, it should install fine on your XP machine...


Unless you are running a 64bit version of xp.

Also this is off google, but......
The original poster found out it was a secrurom issue with their drive....they used a external drive to get it to install correctly, but it has been fixed with a firmware update on drives as well.
