Currently there is Icewind Gate which runs the BG2 game files from the Icewind Dale 2 game engine. It is not an easy mod to make work because the ID2 engine is so hard-coded.
This process could be run in reverse, you could have Icewind Dale 2 game files run from the BG 2 game. Thus ID 2 would be the biggest BG 2 mod on record.
One problem is that BG 2 characters start at a much higher level. Nythrun's Level 1 NPCs mod could be altered so that it reduced all NPCs to level 1 and reduced their xp to 0.
Both these ideas require that you own both of the games. It would require someone who can program unlike me.

Yes, that will be interesting to see. I never did like the ID2 graphics anyway.
I figure that if you can make the BG 2 files run on the ID 2 game, then you can probably reverse the process and run the ID 2 files on the BG 2 game.
