I've got a question I went into one of the merchants to sell some stuff that I don't need and one of the selections asked me if I wanted to invest 500 gold with that merchant or something along those lines. What is this about and what advantages if any are there for me if I were to do this?

Yes: it increases the maximum amount they're prepared to offer you per transaction, so you don't make such a loss on selling expensive items.

Also in regards to the misc. quest I think that the one for which you get from Kud-ei in  the Bravil mages guild is the worst as far as rewards go. You go through all that garbage to save her friend in the dream world  for a lousy scroll. If I knew that I wouldn't have done the quest. Didn't even get to keep anything from in there. Talk about getting the royal shaft job this one was it.

Some of the quest rewards are rubbish, but the quests themselves are quite entertaining!  I thought that quest was strange enough to be worth playing in spite of the reward... though I agree it felt like a bit of a let-down.

I am in love with Midas Magic Spells of Aurum, but at the same time I'm trying to get Better Cities to work. The game will crash everytime I enter the Imperial City. Guess I'll just have to figure it out.

That's the only downside of mods. They ****** you off.

Vometia- Ok I was wonder what the deal was with that there as it's the first time I had seen it. Well yes I''ll agree with you on both points of your comment about the quest. Two of the biggest Misc quest has to be that Nrnroot one and the one for all the statues. Of coure the one for the statues is very profitable to say the least. 10k in gold just from the collector himself not counting all the loot you hall out of each place.

Montezuma-Glat that I'm not using any mods in my game currently.<G> Maybe if Naghty sees your post he'll be able to help you out with it. I know he uses lots of mods.

Problems with mods can be a real pain to track down; utilities like TES4Edit can be of huge assistance in tracking down some of the more glaring problems, though it's really aimed at more experienced mod-users or modders. Still worth investigating, though.

The order of mods can also have a big effect: BOSS (better Oblivion sorting software, I think) makes life massively more straightforward, and of course Wrye Bash is indispensable when it comes to getting things to play nice.

Sometimes scripts can be a major headache, and they're trickier to deal with; sometimes mods come with special installation tweaks to make them settle in without too many problems.

Better Cities has a bunch of compatibility patches, so it might be worth seeing if it has one for Midas Magic (sounds familiar, so I'm hopeful). At least it's not as bad as Open Cities (and Open Better Cities) in that regard - which isn't to knock the people involved, it's more to do with how Oblivion works, and putting the cities in the Tamriel worldspace (as opposed to them being their own self-contained universes, as is the case normally) is a huge undertaking and a big compatibility headache...

One of the reasons for which I've yet to use any mods. You see getting some of them installed in the right order so there isn't any conflicts can be a pain in the rear. Remember going through that with BG when I played that one.

Are you using wrye bash to make a bashed patch?

IIRC, Midas adds a new location in the Imperial City and this might be conflicting with the changes to the Arcane University and other parts of the IC modified by Better Cities. if that was the problem, however, I would assume you would just see some missing meshes instead of crashing the game.

Ok now I just came across something interesting here. Under spells I've got 3 under greater powers one is call Guardian or some such like that there for my Dunmar but the other two has me curious. They are:

Mara's Milk restores health 150pts on target
Mara's Mercy-restores health 100 pts on self.

Now I got these while exploring the great outdoors and touching one of the shrines or something don't even remeber which one it was to be honest with you there. Are thes Greater powers permanent or once you use them you lose them? Are there others for which we can get as well?

I just thought this to be intersting and decided to ask.

Also the Knights of Nine and the Shivering Isles DLCs once I start them do I have to completely finish them or can I leave the area and go and do other things and then go back and work on them some more later?

I'm trying it for the first time-I was originally put off by the first person perspective, but I realized I could change it to third person. It is a bit unusual how leveling is tied to skills increasing though.

I couldn't agree with you more on the leveling aspect of the game as it's different than  most other games like DA; BG and others that I've played And dependin on your major skills you can either go up very quickly or very slowly. Image IPB

I never understood why people continued to level up in Oblivion by using acrobatics. Considering the enemies scale with you, I'd assume you'd be pretty gimped by then, when you could have used the points to max your combat oriented skills such as blade, destruction etc etc.

You could get away with this in Morrowind due to the fixed difficulty in the dungeons, but Oblivion feels much more unforgiving. Some of the later level monsters have really high hp pools, and can really take a beating. Though I guess having the ability to jump away from your enemies is nice, I feel like I'm missing the bigger picture here.

Big picture? You're absolutely right, it's a stupid way to level. Technically the best way to level up in Morrowind and Oblivion is controlled, where your primary and secondary skills do not cause you to level up before you are ready. That way you can max your multipliers when you do level up.

Acrobatics and Athletics were by far the worst abilities to pick as primary and secondary simply because you would level up too quickly without a chance to improve the skills you really need.

Personally though, the first thing I did in Oblivion was to open the toolset and set the multipliers to 5 always. That way the game was a lot less stupid.

Will have to admit that the very first game for which I started in Oblivion before I knew much of anything about the game and the way the character went up in levels etc. I did take things like Athletics, acrobatics,  heavy armor just to name a few of them.  But then when I found out that I've done very little fighting and mainly just running around the map looking for various places on the map. Before I knew it I was getting my but handed to me by everything that came along. trolls and ogres and such. Than I found out how the leveling system works in Oblivion it was ok time to start a new game and  think things out a  little better here.<G>

Now my Dunmar Isn't raising as quickly and is holding own in fights.<EG> Only thing is went with Heavy Armor for a major skill. But found some decent chain for which I like so been wearing light armore. Marksman as a Major and belive me I've gotten deadly with that thing.<LOL>

Termokanden How hard is it to use the toolset? Is it pretty straight forward and easy to use?

I like jumping?
I usually pick heavy armor because I get hit a lot and I wear heavy armor, as for the rest I pick all the magic schools except alchemy(no room) so I get access to better spells.

No, although like a few sandbox games I've kept it installed for when I'm bored.

I thought it was sparse and boring, but I mostly modded it better.

I am still playing Fallout 3, however. Excellent game, and one which doesn't suffer from most of the issues Oblivion had.

And your point to this post here? As I do in fact play Oblivion as it's my first time and I'm enjoying it as well. There are others for which are still playing it as well. Image IPB

Well now will have to admit that I was working on some of the Daedric shrine quests and was able to do about 9 or so of them since I'm only level 10 almost 11. I think the sweetest reward you get is when you do the Nocturnal shrine quest. A simple retrieval quest for the Eye of Nocturnal. I got a skeleton key worth a small fortune. But the real kicker was the fact that it gives you 40 pts to your lock picking. I'm going to have so much fun with that thing. Especially since I went from Journeyman in security to Master.

Now  one of the other shrines "Peryite"  where you had to free the 5 souls and you got the shield with the 30% Mr. is great as well. To bad it's heavy and I'm in  light armor. Now if I could have gotten a set of that cool armor that the baddies had on in Oblivion when I was working on freeing the souls I would have taken it and probably switched over to heavy armor. That armor looks so cool.

Ok folks need a hand here I've been working on the Daedric Shrine quest and I came across one entitled Vaermina now she/he wants a black soul gem. Where the heck do I get one of them from? I've checked all the mages guilds and shops that sell mage stuff and nothing. Is there even any in the game at all? I am hoping that someone could point me in the right direction on this one here.

black soul gems can be found (I think) in one of the mage guild quests. If you haven't done those yet, find some necromancers . . . . they sometimes have them

You won't find black soul gems for sale anywhere, I don't believe.

Black soul gems are the only soul gems u can trap humanoid NPCs in. You can either get them off of necromancers in caves/dungeons (random loot) or make you own at necromancer altars. You must have the ability to do soul trap and you need a grand soul gem AND you need to make the black soul gems on a certain day (when a pink light shines on the altar). I kno, it sounds ridiculous but it's the truth.

I wouldn't use those gems, if we're talking console game, those gems might be glitchy AND i think ur supposed to give those to an NPC at one point.....

CuseGirl and TJPags thans for the quick reply about the soul gems and the link for the info on them I'll go and check it out. Sounds to me like this quest is going to be more of a pain in the rear than it's probably worth. But I'm stubborn and when I start something I tend to do my best to finish it. Just like when I came across Umbra searching shrines. Even though I fought her like 50 times @ level 10 I wouldn't give up til I finally beat her. Will have to admit that fight and the butt kickings for which she gave me were well worth it.LOL Ok I'm off to try and figure out this black soul gem making thing. Thanks again you two I appreciate it.

if ur not against cheating, you can find a grand soul gem in the Chorrol mage guild lobby (one of the display cases), dupe glitch it and then turn them into black soul gems.....

And i think at a certain level, u can buy grand soul gems in some of the magic shops.....

I basically plan my whole playthru around getting access to the enchantment altars, getting black soul gems and Chameleon suiting myself and straight owning fools......nothing more gratifying than watching Mankor Camoran run around a room while he can't see u.....

Ok another thing for which I've got to ask here When I finally kicked Umbra's butt after who knows how many reloads and I got all her stuff. It went down as a murder. But life happens that way sometimes. Now I know that when I go to sleep I'll get a visit from the Dark Brotherhood. No big deal as I wanted to join them any way.Image IPB But since I've got a murder on my stats record will that keep me from Joining the fighters Guild and working on them quest?

Also since I didn't get any sort of bounty put on me for killing Umbra does that mean I won't get a visit from the Dark Brotherhood? Image IPB

As long as you don't have a bounty you can join the Fighters Gulid, no worries. I'm not sure about the visit, though. If it said "Someone has witnessed you commit a murder" then you for sure will be visited. If not sure and still want to join, just kill somebody.
