I'm starting to close all the Oblivion gates to get the cities to aid Bruma. Some of them can be a real pain to navigate..

Just use the spell water walk to cross the gatorade lava.

I had no idea you could do that!

I sometimes used the levitate spell (from some magic mods like Supreme Magicka, I think), to fly up to the towers.

It doesn't work very well because your feet can touch the gatorade, but if you run fast enough you can cover a hundred feet before dying (depending on your speed and health).

I did take a shortcut right to the tower like that with one of the gates, I didn't use a Water Walking spell or potion though. But the one I had trouble with was the Anvil one until I read into it more. The others haven't given me much problems. Only got Skingrad and Leyawiin left.

Yeah, you just have to make sure you get your fire resistance up as high as possible (playing Dark Elf helps), and boost your speed and health as well.  Then it's smooth sailing.

It is also possible to swim across the lava, but the damage you take is so high that you have to be practically immune to fire for it to work (and be ready to repair all of your stuff).

I could use some help on the Thieves Guild Quest. I get to the back of the Abandoned Shack with Armand and the 2 other people, but nothing happens. He holds a torch for 4 hours, then leaves and goes back to his house. He's supposed to tell me about the diary but he never does.I even got his disposition to about 90 but it didn't help.

Which quest is it, exactly?

Sorry, I have only done about 30% of the Thieves' Guild quests and I don't remember the diary you are referring to.

The first one-May The Best Thief Win. It may be that I didn't talk to any of the beggars, I'll check that later.BTW-You do have to talk to the beggars before Armond will talk to you. I had to steal the book back from another thief though.

Now I don't know what happens if you don't get the info off one of the beggars. As for me I talked to and paid that beggar that is right there sleeping by the wall Puny Anucus. Than I fast travelled to the temple dist found the house and I had the book and was back before anyone was the wiser. that other thief was still in the house. Now what I find helps to get the book first is stealth and whatever Chamelong you might have. before you go into the house.<G>  I've done all the faction quest and cirrently working on the Mages.

LOL I'm playing a dark elf; however, I'm using Duke Patrick's Basic Hypothermia, and I suspect if I tried swimming in lava I would get heatstroke pretty quickly.

Now I'm curious as to something here. I stopped @ the chapel in Bravil on the way to the mages guild to get the reccomendation quest, The reason for which I stopped in the chapel is free healing and some stats are in red and I know that the chapel alter takes care of this.

Currently my Infamy is 59 and my fame is 52 and when I clicked on the altar it saied "Repent Your crimes wicked one". But it wouldn't heal me or nothing else. Does this have to do with the fact that my Infamy is higher than my fame stat?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: The altars can only be used if your fame is higher than your infamy and you don't have an active bounty. So if you want to get blessings you have to be nice for a little while ^_^
If you have Knights of the Nine installed you can make a pilgrimmage to the nine wayshrines to repent your sins too.

I guess thats what happens when you do all the TG and DB quests it really puts your Infamy up there. As for the bounties I don't have any of them. I do have the KofN  and haven't done that one at all. Was thinking of working on it after the Mages guild which I'm working on now. Thanks for the information.

Yea, the gods do not like the wicked.

This is part of why I suggested doing KotN after doing TG and DB.  Those damn wayshrines don't show up on your map . . . .

I fully understand that now about not doing the KON till both TG and DB wwere done. Now it's just a matter of finding them. After all I did notice that they aren't marked on the map. With all the stuff for which I found on there thats one thing thats not marked. This is going to be a pain the the arse to be honest with you there. One reason I decided to work on the mages reccomendation quests first. I sure hope that I don't have to find them again.<LOL>

Now can I just go and visit all the Wayshrines or do I have to chat with that priest in Anvil  first?

Well your right I was kind of surprised at the way things turned out to be honest with you. Will have to admit that I didn't think that there was someone switching my dead drops and I was killing off all the blackhand members.<G> Though one of them I got lucky with. Got credit for killing the dark elf in the "A Matter Of Honor" quest and I didn't kill him at all. A couple of bandits did and I got the credit for it. Of course I did kill the two of them as well as for looting all 3 of thier bodies.<G> .

When I was doing the DB quests the dark elf had already been killed by a wild animal (I forget what sort) before I got the quest (easiest mission ever).
Of course, these random deaths can be bad as well...I had just parted from Mazoga the orc after killing her enemies but (while I was looting the camp) she got attacked by someone/something on the way home and died breaking that quest chain.
Or just unusual, In the Anvil mage recommendation I had no difficulty killing the rogue mage but a wandering guardsman on patrol attacked and killed the 2 battlemages that were sent to help me.

Still not certain which killing got the DB interested in me - it might have been panic-killing the guy when getting the boots (for rushing up behind me in a vampire lair) or maybe the mage or one of his apprentices when getting the arrow

As for Mazoga the orc she's still alive. Just thought that it was funny that I was all set to take the elf out when the thing came up and said I killed him. I was scratching my head wondering how in the world did I do that there? Curently have done all the FG, TG, and DB quests and just finished up all the mage reccomendation quests.

Now as for the Anvil reccomendation quest what was the guardsman on horseback when he seen it go down? I was lucky when I did this quest and there were no guardsman around to worry about interfering. Some times they can be a pain and are there when you don't want them to be around.

Now currently I'm trying to decide what I want to do next either finish up with the mages; now that I have access to the mage guild in IC; work on more of the Daedric shrines or do the Knights of Nine. So that I can get my Infamy cleaned up. After all I'm currently running a higher infamy than I am fame.Image IPBImage IPB

A friend told me that the last Daedric shrine quest you get a skill book that gives you something like +10 in some of your skills; now that there sounds sweet. But he said it depends on how you use the book and what you select which skills get the plus 10. He didn't elaborate so I guess that I'll learn more when I get to that point.

Whenever I have to find them again, I go right to google and find a map of them.  I have no patience for that anymore.  Image IPB

You can visit them whenever you want, as far as clearing your infamy so you can use the altars.  But I don't think the quest will start until you visit the Prophet.  And besides, he does have something (somewhat) helpful to provide you with.  So go see the guy - it really doesn't take long.

Well now thanks for the information about the prophet I think I will take your advice and go see him before I head out. As I am going to being doing both the Daedric shrines and the wayshrines.  probably allot of them are in the same area as one another so I figure that it might save a little bit of time. Might also take your advice and check UESP for a map on the general location of them since they aren't marked on the map.

@ Red:

Not sure if you've done the Arena fights yet, but you do get 1 fame for every normal Arena fight. You can increase fame 20 points or more very quickly with no infamy by the time you reach Champion.

Mike,

To be honest with you I knew that there was an arena as one of the quests had to do with one of the fighters in the arena area. I didn't know that you could fight in the arena though. Will have to check that out thanks for the information on that there.

Oh, really?  Do the Arena, man.

It's fun.  Most are straight up fights, fairly easy, which allow you to work on off-stats.  For example, I used those fights to work on my Blunt, Destruction, and Marksman skills (I'm mainly a Blade, Block, Heavy Armor guy this game).

Plus, there is a nice reward for completing ALL of the Arena quests.

IronSabbith-Will have to admit that there must really suck with the t.v. going out on you. Hope that your able to get another one real soon.

TJPags-Well now I think that I'll do them right after I'm done with the Knights of the nine. You see this is my first time through the game and since I just went through and did all of the wayshrine and now have the helmet I sure don't want to screw something up and have to do the pilgramage all over again.<LOL>

Now are they fight to the death or fight till one yields?

Fight to the death. You will face more than 1 opponent on occasion. I'd save before the fights with 2 combatants-the one with the 3 Argonian prisoners is particularly hard-no shame in turning down the difficulty. You will also need to heal on a regular basis.

Ok folks currently working on the Dark Brotherhood quests and started Lucien Lachance's quest the first one being Purification where I had to kill all the other guild members. Don't think I'll be running my own DB chapter.<LOL> But none the less I got a reward of a horse from him called Shadowmere. Does anyone use a horse or you prefer to fast travel every where? Can you use a bow while on a horse? Was curious as this is the first horse I've had in the game. Thought of buying one but wasn't sure. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also under horses owned shouldn't it be one instead of 0 since shadowmere was given to me?

As a general rule of thumb I use fast travel as little as possible which means I end up buying a horse or using a free horse which depends on which quest lines I am playing the main quest gives you a free paint horse early on and the DB eventualy gives you shadowmere.

Well yes I am familiar with Shadowmere as I've got that horse there as I've completed all the faction quests cept for the Mages guild. Which I do have the reccomendation quests done for them just have to do the rest of the quest that there might be.

What I was wondering since we were given Shadowmere don't we own him/her and why isn't it listed as one for which we own on our stats sheet?
