Ok folks currently working on the Dark Brotherhood quests and started Lucien Lachance's quest the first one being Purification where I had to kill all the other guild members. Don't think I'll be running my own DB chapter.<LOL> But none the less I got a reward of a horse from him called Shadowmere. Does anyone use a horse or you prefer to fast travel every where? Can you use a bow while on a horse? Was curious as this is the first horse I've had in the game. Thought of buying one but wasn't sure. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also under horses owned shouldn't it be one instead of 0 since shadowmere was given to me?

As a general rule of thumb I use fast travel as little as possible which means I end up buying a horse or using a free horse which depends on which quest lines I am playing the main quest gives you a free paint horse early on and the DB eventualy gives you shadowmere.

Well yes I am familiar with Shadowmere as I've got that horse there as I've completed all the faction quests cept for the Mages guild. Which I do have the reccomendation quests done for them just have to do the rest of the quest that there might be.

What I was wondering since we were given Shadowmere don't we own him/her and why isn't it listed as one for which we own on our stats sheet?

It only lists horses that you purchased for some reason.  Same thing with houses.  In all honesty though it really doesn't matter since shadowmere becomes your horse and shadowmere is better than a purchased horse anyway since shadowmere can't be killed.

Does anyone that plays Oblivion use the Construction Set? As I've got some questions for which I'd like to ask.

Anyone else planning on heading back into Oblivion to get hyped for Skyrim? I will be doing that in October after I finish up my current ME 2 playthrough.

I played it less frequently after DAO came out.  Would still play it but not like I did before DAO came out.

As for me I played DAO several times over the years since it had come out. Just recently started playing the Elderscroll series even though it had been out for a while. Playing through Oblivion now and durrently doing the Daedric shrine quest. Currently doing Molag Bal and its a weird one. I've got to take an axe and have some guy kill me with it. Im thinking to myself what is this all about. But guess I'll find  out here in a few.<G>

Well I know I said I would wait until I finished my current ME 2 playthrough and startup in Oblivion again in October but last night I figured what the heck I feel like playing oblivion so I started up a new character. Decided I would make a a thief/assassin breton necromancer. Going to eventualy roleplay him as a vampire assassin who lives primarily in deepscorn hollow but works for the Dark Brotherhood while also being a member of the Thieves Guild for the fences. Made a custom class for him (first time I have ever done a custom class, but none of the set classes seem to fit exactly what I was looking for (though some were close). So I played him through the prologue and basically lied to Baurus since I have no intention of following through with the main quest this time since I don't want the fame and he wants to be a fairly low key character with some noteriety but the last thing he would want is to be Champion of Cyrodil. Eventualy headed up to Bruma to get away from the IC (remember wants to be low key) stayed the night up there and then in the morning he sold some of his loot he had gathered from his escape from prison as well as some obtained from some bandits he had killed on the road the day before. While up there he heard rumors about Anora and Jorundr and since I figure that quest should allow me to get the attention of both the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. So tonight when I fire up the game again I will follow through with that. Looking forward to this character.

Will probably also use frostcraig spire (I have no intention of joining the Mages Guild but I do plan on using some magic quite a bit especialy conjuration and destructive magic) as a secondary house (deepscorn hollow will be my main house) as well as the shack in the IC as a secondary house since some of my work for my respective guilds will take me to the IC from time to time.

Ok folks I know it's been quiet in here but I've got a couple of questions and was hoping someone could give me some answers to them: I just got done doing the "Boethia Shrine" quest which is one of the Daedra shrines. Will have to admit that I picked up some sweet items in there. One being a Cuirass for which gives 30% chameleon which would have come in handy while doing the thief and DB guild quest but live and learn.

Now one of the things for which i'm wondering is whether or not you benefit any if your your skills are over 100. Example I've got a 100 in Heavy Armor<Master> and I looted a Cuirass of the blood Legion off one of the 10 fights that I had to do. It gives a 10 to havy armor will I benefit at all from wearing it?

Also I picked up a pair of Moonlight Gauntlets which gives light 40' on self; some place or another and was wondering which is better nighteye, or the Moon Light Gauntlets? Now I do use stealth especially when in a dungeon.

Any help or feed back would be appreciated.

KotrEffect- Will have to admit that it sounds like you've got a sweet plan there if I do say so myself. I didn't lay mine out so intently when I started as this is my first playthrough of the game.  Good luck with him and let me know how it works out for you as you go along.

IIRC as long as you don't exceed 255, you will be fine. If you exceed 255 your skill goes back to zero.

Ok but I still get some additional benefits for having it over 100 or not?

no idea about that.

I found all the dungeons in the vanilla version of Oblivion to be too bright, so I never needed any spells, potions or torches to be able to see.

I had to install some mods that made the dungeons darker. Now I have to use a torch in order to see in dark areas, and I like the way that the torchlight looks, so I prefer to use torches instead of any potions or spells.

I can understand that there. Maybe it's me than cause I find them to dark allot of times. Of course it could be my glasses need changed as well. Been a while since I've done that there.<G>

lol when you do multiple playthroughs it becomes easy to plan out what kind of character you are going to make.  Back when I did my first playthrough 3 years ago when I bought the GOTY edition for the xbox 360 my first character was all over the place not knowing what he was doing but it was alot of fun.  In some ways I envy you because a first time through is all about discovery and learning the world as you go.  Though when do familiarize yourself with the game and the different factions, classes, etc... then you can really start to roleplay.  Though I have done vampire assassin/thieves in the past this is the first one I am making with a strong magical element thrown in and on top of that I am going to play him as a necromancer which the mages guild in cyrodil hates so in some ways he is going be the equivelant to an apostate bloodmage in dragonage.  Also first time I am totaly avoiding the main quest.    In many ways I still consider myself an amateur when it comes to playing TES but it is alot of fun.

If you use stealth, you don't want light.  Lights lets people see you.  Use nighteye if you need it.  I'm pretty sure there's a nighteye spell that you get (or maybe can get, it may not be automatic) from one of the DB or TG quests.  Whenever I need to see, I just use that.

Yep.  The Khajiit in the DB sanctuary sells a good Night-Eye spell, along with a good Invisibility spell and a Paralyze spell.  Don't you just love Illusion?  Light spells are cheaper, and if you're not trying to be stealthy (and don't have much magicka) then they are better.

Also, I was under the impression that you got nothing from having 100+ skills.  No penalties, but no gain either.  In Morrowind, certain calculations (like Alchemy) would use your modifed ranks even if they exceeded 100, but I thought it did nothing in Oblivion.

I'm not sure if there's a benefit or not to being over 100 in a skill. However, except for the skeleton key, you can still raise the level of a stat, even if an item bonus has pushed it over 100. As in, actual heavy armor skill rank is 92, you have a +10 bonus from something making you 102. The game will at least consider you a 100 in Heavy Armor for most purposes, but you will still be able to increase the skill by wearing heavy armor, being hit, etc.

I'm pretty sure the skeleton key screws that for lock picking, though.

Still, as long as there's no penalty, never hurts to be as high as possible.

If you don't mind being a vampire you get a spell that is both nighteye and detect life. I think it is called Hunter's sight.

Or you could make your own spell that does both at the Arcane University.  That way you don't have to deal with the hassle of being a vampire.  I never found vampire abilities worth the annoyance of having to feed.

KotrEfffects- Well that is true wasn't sure how many times you had played through the game. But figured that it was more than a couple of times.<G> As far as your comment goes about the first time through your right it is great because you don't know what to expect as you explore the world for which your in and will have to admit that I've seen some weird stuff in ths game.<G> Being a Vampire though is something that just don't interest me though.

TJPags- I wasn't sure if their was any benifit of having over 100 in one of your skills or not thats why I asked after finding that Armor that I mentioned. Now someone menioned that you could only go as hight as 60 in security as well due to the Skeletn key for which you get in the Nocturnal Daedric Shrine quest. But yet my security keeps going up. I think that I'm at around 116.

Now I'm not so much worried about a spell for Nighteye due to the fact that I've got Fin Gleam which gives nighteye, water breathing and detect life. I was just curious between the 2 of them. I've got so much stuff sitting in my house in Skingrad I want to start clearing some of it out.<LOL>

Another thing I've got a bow that does +20 cold damage when you strike a person plus some various cool arrows that do a bunch of different types of damage not going to list them all. One arrow is of Immolation or something like that which does 65pts of damage in a 10' area. So even if I used the arrows of Immolation with the above mentioned by I do the damage to the enemy from the bow and the arrows correct? Even thugh the arrows don't do frost or cold damage?

I used to play Oblivion until I got over 400+ hours in and the game kept freezing.  I saved often, but sometimes the game would even freeze while saving.  That in mind, it would be hard for me to play the game again, though I am looking forward to Skyrim.  Hopefully it's more stable and doesn't punish you the longer you play it, game performance-wise.

@redneck - that's what I'd heard about the skeleton key, which is why I mentioned it. Personally, I usually start using it once my skill is up around 60. The key puts me at 100, and I no longer care if I go up from there. Haven't noticed if I have.

As to the bow, yes. If you use a bow with an effect, and an arrow with an effect, you should be scoring both.

That is aabout what my security skill was when I startred using it as well. As far as how I know about your security still increasing even though you've got it I was checking my skills to see what I was week in that I wanted to work on. Working on getting my Destruction magic the final 5 pts I need for master so that I can use Finger of the Mountain  Probably should have went after this one before I hit level 20 and I might have been able to use it sooner.

Ok I thought that is the way for which worked with the bows and arrows wasn't totally sure though.

Now I've got  a "Heal Major Wounds" which heals 25pts of damage.  And I've got a "Heal Superior Wounds" 25 pts for 4 seconds. Does that mean that every second it heals 25 pts of damage?

Alright well an update ony my dude. Got him into both the thieves guild and the dark brotherhood. Also turned him into a vampire by raiding a vampire fort near leyawin. I forget what it is called but it is right on the water. Checked out both frostcraig spire and deepscorn hollow as well as purchased a paint horse. Completed a couple of quests for each my respective guilds partly because I wanted access to the fence in leyawin (since it close to deespscorn hollow) Right now my focus is going to be on making money so I can begin to deck out both deespcorn hollow and frostcraig spire. Going to probably do some dungeon diving around the IC and some thieving in Bruma and Leyawin. Not going to worry about advancement this early in my guilds. Seeing as though I am a vampire now I also have to adjust my schedule accordingly. I still try to feed frequently enough so I can be out and about in the day time but when I travel throughout cyrodil I do that at night. I still need to purchase the waterfront shack and when I can afford it I will upgrade to a chestnut horse. I generaly keep my horses out of danger so I am not worried about the low health that the chestnuts have. I generaly just use horses for long range traveling so I usualy have them parked at the nearest city or stable.
