This is pretty much my first play through and I'm playing a sniper.<custom character> He mainly uses a Bow and stealth  Now I don't know if I'd be willing to try a character for which you are trying to play through with. After all I'd think that would limit you as you wouldn't be able to do 2 of the factions quests at all like the thief or assasin guilds.

I'm curious as to where you found the +8 heavy armor at as I dont ever remember an set of armor giving +8 and I've done about 1/4 to 1/3 of the game right now. I've don't most of the misc quests as well as for the full TG, MG, and DB I've also done Knights of the Nine and I'm currently working on Shivering Isles with about 8 or 9 of those quests all finished up. He's a Dunmer currently wearing a full set of Daedric heavy armor some pieces enchanted. Now currently I'm getting ready to start a S.I. quest about "Retaking the Fringe".  Once I complete that there I'm going to go back to Cyrodill and drop some stuff off @ my house and come back and work on it some more. From what I see from the UESP there are lots of quests in the DLC Shivering Isles and I've done none of the Misc and about 1/2 of the main quest items. Think I'll work on the Misc quests when I get back from droping things off @ home.

Well, I'm such a person that enjoy the challenge in giving myself some made up rules to play by. Then I have another character too that I play more freely with (a stealthy imperial alchemist with good blade and bow skills) that I can use if I want to do all the faction quests. So I don't miss out on the action just because I play with an overly nice character B)

I think that the armor I found came from a mod. In Francescos mod you can choose if you want bosses in some caves, ruins and forts to make your life a bit more like hell. One of those bosses had that armor (I defeated him only because I have another mod installed that let me do stealth-kills and it's so darn funny to do those ). There are many good things scattered around randomly in caves, ruins etc. Sure, the best things is mostly given to you as a reward for some quests but if you are a quest-ignorer like me (the only quest line I've completed is the main quest, and it was one time for about three years ago. O.o), you have to stick with what you find in the wilderness :)

Speaking of which, what is everyones favorite quest reward? Mine is Chillrend. I really love that sword and its name!

Well now that answers how you got the odd armor. And here I was beginning to think that I was missing something somewhere or hadn't gotten to it as of yet.Posted Image Currently this is my first play through of the game; I know I'm a little slow at getting into the ES series. But I was under the impression from a couple of folks that it was an online game and that was what kept me away. A mgr @ gamestop where I buy my games talked me into picking it up and I've not been able to stop playing it. Even pre-ordered Skyrim and already have it paid for.

Currently I'm just playing the vanilla version of the game. Usually do the very first time through a game so that I can get a feel for the game. Hate to going on a game and be a good ways through it and find out that one or more of the mods decides that it don't want to play nice with everything else.

Ok right now I'm running my male Dunmer through he's manly stealthy which is coming in handing in some of the dungeons. Full Daedric armor<some pieces enchanted> Bow of Storms as my weapon of choice with Umbra and Goldbrand. as my Melee. Also use destruction and restoration magic as  needed. Times you need to soften up the enemy befor you out right kill them. Posted Image As for potions I carry very few of them just have a few of them in case I need them in battle. after the battle I use healing spells. Have you pre ordered Skyrim or are you waiting?

You are really going to enjoy Duke Patrick's Combat Archery if you install it for your next playthrough.

Bows are much, much more powerful, but they are slower to draw and you can mess up a shot if you stumble or get attacked when launching an arrow.

They do so much damage that a sneak bow attack will usually one-shot most enemies. The normal damage most bows they do is in the 100-200 range and if you raise your archery skill you can do 3x or 6x damage. If you have a magic bow or daedric or magic arrows, the damage is phenomenal. But it's balanced because the enemy archers can also one-shot you, so you have to approach them very carefully, hiding behind trees and rocks, etc.

This mod is the one that inspired the changes to Skyrim's archery system.

I've been playing vanilla and modded Oblivion so much I have a good knowledge of what I like to change and what to keep vanilla. Most of my mods tend to make make visible changes and not so much gameplay changes. I can really reccommend Duke Patricks Archery mod as Naughty99 talked about if you want small changes with big impact.

I've preordered Skyrim but haven't paid for it yet. At my store you don't have to pay for it until you pick it up at the store, which means I could change my mind as much as I want. Not that I will though, I think Skyrim is going to be my new favorite game! :D

Well now I think I'll download and install Dukes archery mod for my next playthrough sounds like a great mod form what the two of you are saying.

Now I didn't have to pay for Skyrim when I pre-ordered it from Gamestop. I could have waited till I picked it up if I wanted to. But I figured that I had the money at the time so I might as well pay for it that way I wouldn't have to worry about not having the money when it was released.Posted Image Besides after playing through Oblivion I know I'm going to get it. Having it paid for already means I don't have to worry about the money for it when I can pick it up.

BTW Elamor do you live in the U.S or in another country? I'm just curious.

Naughty have you done the Shivering Isles DLC yet? Was wondering if you or someone new if the crystal chests that are in there respawn.

A country for which I've not had the chance to visit, one day I hope to have that chance to be honest with you there. I've seen photos and it looks like such a pretty country.

Jedi Sentinel Arien and why shouldn't we be playing Oblivion? After all we payed for it we can play what we won't to play. After all there are still those that like them game. As for me I'm just getting into the ES series and will have to admit that I am enjoying Oblivion.

The reason I am getting Skyrim is because I loved Oblivion so much. Oblivion introduced me to the series.  I am having a blast playing some Oblivion right now.  Besides Oblivion deserves a proper send off before I get Skyrim.

I couldn't agree with you more. I Just recently got into the ES series and since I'm playing Oblivion for the 1st time and enjoying it I did pre-order and already have paid for Skyrim. Just a matter of walking in and picking it up @ midnight on the 11/10 coming home and installing it. Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

I couldn't agree with you more on this here. What are you currently working on in the game? As for me I'm still working on Shivering Isles. I've only got one or two Misc quests to do and about 3 or 4 main quests than the SI will be done. I believe I can than start working on the main quest and shutting down all the Gates.

I just hope that once I get all the Obelisks deactivated I won't have to worry about them any more.

Well the last few nights I have been focused on my Orc Warrior, and while I have started the main quest I put it on hold until I finish up the fighters guild questline. Meaning that I am running around Cyrodil with alot of oblivion gates popping up everywhere which for me means leveling up, looting, and sigil stones.

Well now I thought that the Gates were part of the Main quest. As for the FG and other faction quests they are all done this includes most of the misc quests Lots of folks told me to to hold off on the Misc quest till I got the other stuff done. And since this is my first play through thats what I did. What are the "Sigil stones" used for?

BTW how do you know if the gates are open?

They start to open up very early in the main quest.  I don't know what you have read about the main quest so I don't want to spoil it for you.  But while the gates are connected to the main quest not all of them are essential to the main quest.  I'd say about 3 of them "have" to be closed.  The other ones are optional but it is a good idea to go into them.  Can level up and get crazy loot that you can use or sell.  Sigil stones are stones that hold the gates open and once you have obtained one not only does it close the gate but you can use the sigl stone to enchant items.  Meaning you can enchant any base weapon or piece of armor and then use it or sell it.  In my opinion it is good to get the main quest started and then put it off just to have access to the gates.  Now with that said oblivion gates can get repetitive and sometimes they can be annoying even if you try to ignore them since  when you get close to one the sky turns red and the weather changes.

Not read much about them and have heard little about them except for the fact that there are like 60 or so of them which I'll have to admit that is a whole lot of stones and gates to close. As for the main quest I've not done one thing for it as far as I know. I still have the Kings Amulet for which you get way back when you first leave the Prison. As for selling stuff I'm currently pushing 800K in septums and have lots of things for which I can sell at my house in Skingrad. I know if I were to sell everything I could push it over the 1million septum easily. If not close to it. Will the game register in the millions in gold.Posted Image

Well since you already have a high level character that is rich I don't think you need to worry about going into gates much then. I do think they are good for lower to mid level characters though. And like I said you don't need to close all of them to beat the main quest because once you beat the main quest all of them will close automaticaly.
