Well since you already have a high level character that is rich I don't think you need to worry about going into gates much then. I do think they are good for lower to mid level characters though. And like I said you don't need to close all of them to beat the main quest because once you beat the main quest all of them will close automaticaly.

Currently I'm 34th Level as I just got done raising my PC. Finally got my restoration up to 100 didn't think that was going to happen. After all I very seldom use potions. Just shut down all the currently open Obelisk 20 total in SI. and have one mis and 3 main quest left and it's finally done. Image IPB As for Armor right now I've got full Daedric armor on with vairious pcs of it enchated either by me or found that way, I've got various rings, amulets and staves and weapons @ my home in Skingrad. Going to have a set of Madness armor made with all the matrix's I found. I think. Like I need another set of armor.Image IPB

Wow, I remember when you just got the game and you were figuring out your class and what not. Having experienced most of it, what do you think? How many hours have you logged?

Well if we go by the play time stated under the saved game it's over 320 hrs. Of course with this being my first time through the game I'm exploring everything there is to explore and it's the vanilla version of the game as well. I've still probably got a few hours left of game play in the shivering Isles and than I can start in on the main quest. I still have yet to turn in the amulet for which you get from the king at the start of the game. As for what I think of the game I'll have to admit that I like it allot. Didn't realize that there was so much game play in the game when I got started in it. I just wish I had gotten into ES back when it first came out.

Oblivion is indeed a game that is very easy to get sucked into and sometimes knowing when to turn it off can be difficult. Sometimes it takes either the physical need to sleep or an outisde commitment to tear me away from a game like that. One only wonders what skyrim will do to people.

I recently picked up the 5th year anniversary edition on PS3 since I finished college and actually have time to play video games. I both hate and love it. I'm on my third playthrough because I got stuck on bugs and I am a neurotic completionist and want to do every quest. I hate the bugs and the funky level scaling but I love lollygagging around on my horse.

Thats the same one for which I've got only for the Pc came with both the Knights Of Nine and Shivering Isles DLCs. which are 2 great DLCs.

Well now I'll have to admit that I doubt that it's 1000 magicka for which you need. I got Finger of the MTN @ level 20 and I had to have 100 in destruction. Magicka cost is 143 and it does 90 pts of damage.

So have you really done anything in the Isles yet? I've done about a 1/2 dozen or so quests. Didn't realize there was so much that could be done not only in the game in general but just in Shivering Isles. But I'm enjoying the game.

checked up...I've been focussing on sword and bow for combat so my destruction skill is only 19
Current magicka cost for finger is 1480, current magicka 96

As your skill level increases, magicka cost goes down - I'm not sure exactly of how much.

As an easy way to increase your skill level (I don't use magic much either, but like it to be there when I want it) buy low-magicka needed spells for things like conjuration, mysticism and alteration, and cast them again and again as you walk around.  As example, I bought minor life detect, a mysticim spell, and ran around for a while casting it again and again . . . . skill level raises fast.  I did the same with a bound dagger (conjuration) spell.

For destruction, go to the mages tower, create a simple fire spell on yourself for 1 point damage, and cast repeatedly.  Does hardly any damage (obviously) has a low magicka cost so you can cast it again and again, and raises destruction quickly.

1480 magicka cost for using finger of the Mtn?! What level are you and what level were you when you got the spell? I was level 20 when I got it and I sure don't need anywhere near that much. 2 main spell sets for which I use is Destruction and Restoration. Now I've cleared out everything in SI. Been through all 50 plus areas.Image IPB Now I did get rid of Syl  due to wanting the Armor as well which I Only found out about it  from a friend of mine that mentioned it to me. Image IPB Not that I needed another set of armor. After all I've got about 3 complete sets and I'm going to have a set of madness heavy armor made as well. Curious if it looks as good as the Daedric armor that he currently wears, some of the piece are enchanted.

Now I've just gotten the staff done and cleaned up all the things needed in the Roots of Madness quests which included illing Thadon. <sp>  Once I finish up with the Si, which I believe it's almost done; I can begin on the main quest line as everything else will pretty much be done. All the Misc quests, the Faction quest, S.I and KofN

But I think before I start on the Main quest going to go back over to IC and play around with the Enchanting alters and see what all I can do with enchanting items and making spells and  such as I haven't really played with that there and I'm curious as to what all you can do with it. Image IPB

Now I don't know if I would say that there. After all the Daedric armor looks pretty cool as far I'm concerned.Even thought I'm not a fan of red. Think it would have looked better if it were blue and black instead. But some of the stuff like the helms are gawdy to say the least. Maybe thats why I don't wear them all that much.<LOL>

I was thinking along the lines of glass armor vs leather or fur armour when it comes to light armor. Also with maces I actualy like the look of the steel mace more than the glass mace. Of course I will use the glass mace over the steel mace because it is the stronger weapon but in terms of look I think some of the higher tier stuff looks a little too exotic. I also love the steal armor and I think it looks better than orcish or ebony armor. Maybe I am just a traditionalist.

Now in that regards I would tend to agree with you as I don't care for the look of the glass armor personally but there are some out there that do. I've got a friend that plays the ES and he loves the Glass armor. He don't like heavy armor as he says its to much weight. I told him it don't go against my weight when I'm wearing it as I'm a master @ heavy armor. Now like you I love the Steel armor I think it looks great nice and basic nothing real fancy. I'm getting ready to fight Jygalag<sp> in the Shivering Isles DLC Than I'm going to have a set of Madness Armor made which I've got all the Matrix's for  to have them enchanted. Not sure what that set looks like or how much better protection it is over the Daedric if any but I'll soon find out.

Yes, I think so too. I love how the dwarven greaves look on girls together with a huntsman's vest (bikini). Then, I think that the elven and the ebony helmet looks ridiculous. The steel and iron armor is classy too ^_^

level 20/21 when learning so it's one of the more powerful version
I've rarely used destruction spells (main usage was in a mage guild quest with the pillars) so am only level 19 in destruction..If I got that higher the magicka cost would come down...but I'm not really that bothered
(Mainly use magicka on healing spells)
Finished main quest months ago...

I didn't realize that the Magicka cost for a spell came down with the higher for which you are in say destruction. Guess I never really paid that much mind to that part of it there. As for destruction spells I do use the enemy explodes spell which comes in hand for softening up a group of mages.Image IPB But like you mainly use restoration spells.

AS for the main quest I've yet to start it as I did everything else like the Misc. and faction quests as well as for the 2 Dlcs Knights of the nine and Shivering Isles. Will have to admit that someone a few pages back mentioned that they didn't want to do the SI DLC as it made you into a god. I learned that is only true in a sense that you rule a realm it don't make you Overly powerful or anything like that there. I think that a set of Amor with your total reflect damage at 100% would do that there.<LOL> Wonder if that is possible to do might have to try that out.

Well I guess now that I'm done with everything else I can work on the main quest. Hopefully can get that finished before 11/11/11.

I'm curious about something that has to do with the Oblivion gates and was hoping someone could help me out here. As the gates open up are their locations marked on the map or do we have to find them the hard way by searching all over Cyrodill? I've heard there are a total of 60 of them and I'm hoping that I don't have to look for them the hard way.

Well I'm off to turn over the Amulet of Kings and get started on the Main quest line. I know it's about time.<LMAO>

Trust me, a bit into the main quest you'll get so fed up on them that you never want to see another one again.
But some of them are scattered into the wilderness so if you really want to find them all I guess you have to do a bit of searching. They do come up on your map when you find them, just as the caves and ruins so you can revisit them if you leave them open. When they are closed, they are closed for good.

Well now I'll have to admit you might be right that I may just get sick of them. But I'm one especially with this being my first play through I like to check out everything.  Besides theres only what about 60 of them.Image IPB

Pretty much this, and if you get close enough to one the sky and weather changes.   If you are like me you often feel compelled to close them just to get rid of them (oblivion greats are great for looting and sigil stones enchant  stuff though).   Even if you just stick to the roads you will come across them and pretty frequently as you start to progress through the main quest line.  My personal rule when it comes to oblivion gates is that I always close the ones next to roads or settlements.  I tend to ignore ones that are in the middle of nowhere

Thanks for the information on the gates. I think that I'll play them by ear and see how it goes as the main quest line progress' and more gates open. I do want to try and finish this first play through before Skyrim comes out though. Hopefully I'll be able to do just that.Image IPB

Not sure as I've yet to play a female character in the game but will take your word for it. Image IPB This being my first full play through and getting ready to start the main questline as everything else is done. I personally like the daedric armor I think it looks cool. I am wearing a full set of enchanted madness armor for which I like the enchantments don't care much for the looks of it in general though. If I start another playthrough which will probably be a while since Skyrim is due out in about a month I'll probably play around with the enchanting more and see what I can come up with.

One thing I won't miss is the framerate dropping and chugging along when I am traveling on the large map. This happens frequently on the 360 even when the game is installed. I just had to reload my last save because my game all but froze just outside of skingrad fortunatly I have learned to save quite a bit when I am traveling. So I don't have that much ground to make up.

I've learned from previous games in the past as well as other computer programs to save often and regularly. And I found out that with Oblivion it's no different. There was a few places in the S.I. where the frame rate drop was really bad on the Pc version, not to mention that it's frozen up a couple of times and the save was corrupted. Good thing that I save it twice before I start on a quest. That way if worst comes to worst I'll only have to play from the beginning of that quest.

well my orc warrior is level 19 now and he is almost done with the fighters guild questline, became arena grand champion last night, and is probably a little over halfway through the main quest. After I wrap those up I will send him to the Shivering Isles. It has been forever since I last played SI so I am actualy kind of looking forward to it.
