Got a level 33 Dunmer Sorcerer. Archmage of the guild and Mad God of Shivering Isles. Haven't closed a gate yet. Heavy Armor is at 98 :D. Alchemy is at 100. Good way to be indestructible for a short period and good way to earn some cash. Also I need potions because I took the Atronach Sign for the insane boost, but mana doesn't regen unless someone casts on me. Been sitting on this save for almost a year. Going to get back on it since Skyrim is around the corner.

My current playthrough I've got a male Dunmer Fighter 34th lvl with 100 in Heavy armor, Bow, blade. I'm also 100 in Destruction and Restoration. I've done all the faction quests, the misc quests Mad God of S.I and Also head of the Nights of nine. Currently working on the main quest. Have shut down one of the Oblivan gates that was the one in Kvatch. Found another one north of IC but for some reason when I take the Sigil Stone I get a bad FPS drop and it all but freezes and when it finally goes to the Load screen it does freeze up and I've got to re-boot the system. Have yet to figure out what the problem is as I've tried various things. Only thing I've not tried is changing the frame rate as don't know how to do it for the game.

I'm open to suggestions. Current system: I7 3.2 ghz with 6 gigs of tri channel ram and an ATI HD 5670 graphics card with 1gig on the card.

I'm curious about something that has to do with the Oblivion gates and was hoping someone could help me out here. As the gates open up are their locations marked on the map or do we have to find them the hard way by searching all over Cyrodill? I've heard there are a total of 60 of them and I'm hoping that I don't have to look for them the hard way.

Well I'm off to turn over the Amulet of Kings and get started on the Main quest line. I know it's about time.<LMAO>

There are great maps online that show the random spawn points, there are 100, I believe. If you don't want to go the map route, if you search during the day, look for black smoke in the distance.

Slyborg-thanks for the info. that at least gives me an idea on what to look for. As for the problem I was having the the drop in FPS I've got that all squared away. Seems I just needed to go in and tweak some settings on the graphics card. When I updated the drives for my card it seems it re-set everything back to factory settings which were very low. I should have thought to check that in the first place.

Well tonight after I beat the main quest I went into the Shivering Isles, now I remember why it has been a long time since I last played the SI. Shivering Isles is a little bit too weird for me.

I won't argue with you on the fact that it was a little weird. After all I thought the same thing when I played it as well for the very first time. But will have to admit that it was different.

Never really got into Oblivion as a game. Probably just too many game mechanic (mainly combat related) that I didn't suit my play style. A bit weird as I completely enjoyed Fallout 3. :)

Funny because I could not get into Fallout 3 although I tried.  I guess the setting of a post apoctolyptic DC  did nothing for me.

As for me will have to admit that I've never really been into the first person shooter games at all. Always have liked RPG like Baulders gate, Neverwinter Nights, Dragonage and games like that there. Was late getting into the ES series of games due to the fact that I was told by some folks that it was an online game so I kept putting it off. I'm glad I finally tried it as I love the game. But I guess it goes to show that we all have different tastes when it comes to things including games.

Cool how far have you gotten so far in the game? I've got the game as well and it came with SI and KofN DLCs. Got almost everything done and I'm currently working on the main quest and shutting gates as I come across them.  Do you play on PC or console? I'm playing Pc.

I'm just destroying the Oblivion gates/getting aid from the towns. I haven't done a lot of side-quests, I am planning to finish the main story first then I can do the side-quests. I play on console, I used to play on PC though. Something weird happened to me on the PC version, my dark elf female turned into a man when she became a vampire....

EDIT: It was a female Redguard sorry.

Talk about a serious sex change there.<LOL> That must have been weird for you when that happened? Will have to admit I've not had anything weird like that happen so far to me. Of course I've managed not to become a vampire either. I'm currently playing a Male Dunmer who mainly uses a Bow and stealth with sword and shield for melee. Not much into spells but I've mastered Restoration and Destruction spells as they've come in pretty handy for me. Especially the Restoration spells. I have closed down a  few of the gates that I've come across so far. Maybe a 1/2 dozen of them.

What are you playing this time through? Are you getting Skyrim on 11/11/11?

Well, redguards are pretty tanned normally and I made her really pale. I wouldn't care if she became tanned... but male? My Argonian got infected with that vampire disease, so I went to a temple and just cured myself, I was so relived because on my dark elf character I tried doing the cure quest and I eventually gave up. I've never used a bow, I just like to kill them pretty fast and loot their bodies, I don't plan my attacks other than "STAB STAB BURN BURN" Also how come the level ups are so slow? I'm only Level 2 and I've been in many dungeons and killed heaps of stuff! And yeah I'm getting Skyrim on the 11th :) I pre-ordered the limited edition, the collectors edition were sold out -.- What about yourself?

I like the bow due to the fact that you can kill them with out taking any damage most of the time.Image IPB But I do use a sword and shield for melee and have it in a quick slot so that I can switch weapons quickly if need be. As for me I always keep a potion or two of cure disease handy just in case; better safe than sorry. I think thats why I've been lucky and not had to worry about the cure quest for becoming a vampire. Now as for raisisng in levels it has to do with your Major skills. For every 10 pts you get in your overall major skills you go up a level. Took me a bit to figure that one out as well. So if you want to level up quicker you'd put the skills for which you plan on using the most as your major skills.

As for Skyrim not only do I've got it pre-ordered but it's already paid for as well. All I need to do is to pick it up. Went through Gamestop for it and they are having a midnight release for the game so I'll have mine @midnight on the 10th.<G>

Avoiding becoming a vampire is pretty easy when you know what you are doing. I usualy try to have at least a couple of cure diseases potions in my inventory just in case I run into them and I drink it after I finished clearing the dungeon because chances are very high that during the course of clearing out the dungeon you will have contracrted the diseases that eventualy leads to vampirism. Fortunatly the game gives the player time to cure the disease before it turns into vampirism. If you don't have any cure disease you can always head to the nearest chapel and praying at the altar cures any disease. Of course it is important to cure the diseases as soon as possible because once you turn into a vampire it is too late and you can't cure it unless you do the really long quest or alternatively have deepscorn hollow installed. Really though they set it up so that vampirism is mainly a player choice thing since it is pretty easy to avoid.

Does difficulity matter? Right now the enemies are too easy for me and the difficulity is pretty low. Oh okay, thanks! Finally I understand it. :P Also, what's the max fame points can go up to? Oh cool! I have like $100 left to pay off, but I can get the money in time. It costs $110 here for the normal and limited edition. :alien:

Just been trying to integrate some new provinces into my game: Elsweyr Anequina and Valenwood Improved, both good in their own right but both very different, which makes them even better.  Mostly they're not too much trouble, though some effort is needed to make them work well; at present, the biggest headache is trying to get the distant landscape to behave, which I've nearly sorted out but it's tricky.

The other thing is that Valenwood Improved comes sans map, so I decided to make one: actually trying my hand at cartography has proven quite entertaining in itself, though I'm not much good at it!  That said, it is like an authentic mediaeval map in that the roads aren't always marked exactly where they're supposed to be!

Here it is, for the curious: the map was originally done by Thacadian, and Elsweyr by Yian; the blobby green lump that is Valenwood is my effort, as well as the hopefully accurate south-west coastline.

KotorEffect- I found your statement to be true that it is easy to avoid becoming a vampire in the game. Even in my first playthrough it wasn't all that difficult. Even though I'm still working on getting through the main quest. As for the Deepscorn Hollow and a few other DLCs I've tried to buy them but it seems the site has been down for over a month for mainitenance. Who knows maybe it won't ever be back up. I also was thinking of getting the mage DLC and maybe the thieves one as well. Guess thats what happens when you get into a game series so late. Tried steam but they want you to buy the whole game to get them.

TheGunSlinger- As for the difficulty setting I'm not sure as I'm running it on the hardest setting there is. But in all honesty I don't think it does as all around it is easy. Even the so called bosses aren't all that hard to beat. I hope that with Skyrim there is more of a challange to the fights especially on the harder settings. As for the fame points not sure as this is my first time through the game. Currently I think I'm up to 88 fame points and still have to finish the main quest and close about 56 gates. And I plan on closing everyone of them. Just like I deactivated all the Obelisk in SI. Now where do you live?! I take it that you don't live in the states since you mentioned that the regular Skyrim game costs $110. Now is that U.S currency? I don't think that I'd want to know what they wanted for the CE version of the game since here it's around $160 and I wouldn't pay it. Not for what you got with the game.

Made the mistake of doing a pre-order with DA2 and won't do that again with a Bioware game. Was very disappointed with the game. And than they turned around and gave everyone all the in game and Downloadable items whether or not they had pre-ordered the game. Lots of Bioware fans were disappointed with that.

vometia- Now are you doing this for a mod for which you're currently working on or what? Because currently you can't travel to Elsweyr in the Oblivion game. Unless I'm missing something somewhere. Since I'm new to the ES series and Oblivion is my first one that I've played I figured that Elsweyr was either from one of the earlier games in the series or a future one.

No, no, my mod release schedule is bad enough without working on an entire province!  You can disable the borders but the landscapes become boring pretty quickly... unless you add on Eldarie's Valenwood Improved and/or Iliana's Elsweyr Anequina.

My contribution is simply to make a map where Valenwood is lacking one: as much as I'd like to claim it's as impressive as actually creating the province in question, it's not really!

TheGunslinger wrote...

There's 60 in total.  I managed to close 56 or 57 during one play-through, wanted to get them all but they were driving me nuts by that point.

Edit: re the Skyrim collector's edition pricing, here in the UK it's £130, which is about US$220 I think - not impressed with that, especially as the contents are quite poor compared to CEs costing less than half as much.

Well yes you're right there are 60 Oblivion gates and I'm going to do my best to close them all on my own. Just because their there.<LOL> Well now I didn't realize that the games costs so much more overseas than what they are here in the U.S. Wonder why the big difference in price?

Yes here the CE was like $160 U.S. and it didn't impress me any either for the price that they wanted for it. I did like the dragon as I collect them. Just couldn't see paying $100 for it though. Heck there wasn't even any additional in game content or mods with the price they wanted for the CE version.

Gunslinger/vometia with what you two have to pay for the regular version of the game is that for console or pc?

Vometia- As for me the only mod, if you want to call it that, for which I've got installed currently is the Unofficial patch mod. Other than that there pretty much playing the vanilla version of the game. I'm a late comer to the ES games. Thought about trying some mods out but not sure of what are good ones and which mods will play nice with one another and the game in general once they are installed. I hate playing hours on a game and than having problems because of mods and having to start all over again.

....60 Gates? :(

The regular version here costs $110 normally as well! Some shops have them for $90, but the lowest it would go is probably $80. The CE edition was about $130..I think

Thats what I thought as well when I first heard about them. But just think of all the gold you can get by selling all the crap you get from them.<G> Plus depending on your level you can get some great Daedric heavy armor which IMO is some of the best looking in the game. The Madness armor that you can have made when you do the S.I quest has some good stats and is slighty better than the Daedric armor but I think the Daedric armor looks better.

How do you get more inventory space? Is it by getting to a higher level? Also I was just casually walking around and I found this...stone thing and I got this helmet thing that was permanently stuck to my face. I freaked out and I re-loaded from an earlier point. There are so many secrets in Oblivion. XD
