I still have a save game of over 200 hours and still a few sidequests to do but I haven't played it in a long time. Skyrim anticipation is making me want to go back to it but the level scaling puts me off, makes it all feel a bit pointless. I'm often tempted to start a new game but the same reasoning puts me off. The fact I'm on Xbox and don't have access to mods doesn't help either. I loved that game until the level scaling got to me, I could spend all day just wandering around stabbing stuff in the face.

Same thing here. Two saves with some 500 hrs each. Only that the level scaling never bothered me that much, because I am a power gamer and after level 30 (both my chars are level 54, legit) I think tthey stop scaling. At least highway bandits stop having those top items they used to from 18 up to 30. Can't complain about that too. I made many experiments with enchanting my stuff and the good supply was helpful. Ended up with a nice mix of Ebony and Black Glass armor pieces (thanks to a mod to change that awful green colour!)

Just thought I would move this post to this thread.

The Uni is immune to normal weapons, disease, poision and paralysis. 50% resist magic and like 20% reflect damage. He has a DPS of 45, which is by far the highest damage of any horse. Shadowmare is 20. If your disposition is high then he will not attack you. Otherwise, he will attack ANYTHING that draws a weapon or fists, and will continue to attack unitl he or it is dead. And that includes you, and any followers or allies. If you dismount him, he will always return to the grove. Shadowmare is the best horse all around. He has 500 HP compared to the Uni at 350. Plus you can knock him out Shadowmare and equip his inventory

Naughty, I heard you say before you haven't stepped foot in Oblivion yet. Just curious why you haven't....aren't you curious to check it out and possibly nab a few Sigil Stones?

Plus there are some good weapons/armor/loot to be had

No actually Oblivion is my favorite game of all time.

My current playthrough I started about 6 months ago and haven't even touched the main quest yet or entered any Oblivion gates.

EDIT: I see what you mean - you are asking about the plane of Oblivion. I usually put off the main quest for a long time. Yes, I covet some sigil stones, but my current playthrough, the character is still level 7 and taking her sweet time to advance. The game is a lot more challenging with lots of mods installed. I plan to finish the main quest on 11.10.11 and ideally switch right over to Skyrim at 12:01am PST. I have played a few other playthroughs of hundreds of hours and entered Oblivion, but never got around to finishing the main quest before.

I loved Oblivion, although to be honest I think I liked Morrowind more. (although the Xbox version of Morrowind looks horrid)
I would like to play it again sometime (Sheogorath FTW),but who has time??

Oh ok so just this playthrough you havent entered Oblivion. Lol I was just curious...I was thinking how hard it would have been to never have entered over before, just to check it out

I like taking my sweet old time, too. I'm never in any hurry to level, sometimes I'll go 5-6 hours without sleeping in game so I won't be forced to level up.

Have you explored every dungeon there is to explore? I still find a cave now and then I haven't located before....its cool finding new locations or quests you somehow missed

I would be careful going any time without sleeping. I mean if you are qued to rest for a level up. You can waste a lot of bonus points that way. When you do rest to level up , and if you have more than 3 attributes with bonus points in them, then those points are wasted. I try to get the 5-5-5 or a 5-5 and 1 in luck, ea level up.

Then again you can go the entire game without sleeping and have a very very very overpowered level 1 character. But you will never have access to the high end equipment.

I'm playing with the mod Real Sleep Extended, so if I go for a while without sleeping, I get status messages telling me how sleepy I am and then I get stat penalties and eventually collapse if I go too long. I think I have to sleep around 6 hours per day to avoid penalties.

I keep planning to but the mere though of having to reorganize all the mods prevents me from playing it. I currently play new vegas instead and waiting for skyrim.

I never got into Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I don't know why.

How is the best way to play? Do you just run around picking up quests, or what do you guys do? It seems so empty and barren...as I guess a fallout would. But I get killed super quick and VATS doesn't work well for me.

Any suggestions?

Play like you would Elder Scrolls, but take time to learn the mechanics and character system. None of them are hard unless you mod it to be that way. The stories and quest design are much stronger though. Both games (especially after mods) are pretty good for roleplaying.

The vanilla version of the hardcore mode needs mods to make it fun because there is too much food and drink available everywhere and you only need to sleep about once per week. There are a couple of really small mods like Harder Hardcore Rates and Expensive Wasteland that increase the frequency so you get hungry, thirsty and sleepy more frequently and all the merchant prices are increased.

With these mods, I would actually run out of food and water, spent most of the game hobbling around crippled in all my limbs and suffering stat penalties from severe dehydration and starvation. In fact, I actually died from dehydration a few times.

My first playthrough I completely ignored the main quest and just wandered the wasteland discovering new locations, collecting side quests here and there. I think I didn't make it to the Vegas Strip until about 70-80 hours into the game. Every location has some interesting back story, for example lots of hilarious corporate emails on the computers in the various abandoned office buildings.

I would suggest to decide on whether you want to focus on melee/unarmed, rifles/pistols, energy weapons or explosives when you start, because for example with melee or unarmed you want to qualify to get the Super Slam perk as quickly as possible (lets you knock enemies to the ground). Also the Rad Child perk gives you a massive health regeneration as long as you stay at critical or deadly rad poisoning all the time.

Also, there are lots of magazines, drugs and special clothing items around that give you temporary bonuses to intelligence, or specifically for the open locks or hack computer terminals, so if you max any of your skills you are completely wasting skill points.

You can either put lots of points into Survival (necessary for rad child) or Medicine, but I wouldn't recommend both. High survival gives you more health and benefits from food that you cook. Medicine affects your healing from stimpaks and I believe affects stimpak crafting.

I prefer Project Nevada + XFO, myself. But FOOK 2 is a great all-in-one overhaul.

I loved Oblivion for years and considered it the best RPG out there, but then Dragon Age:Origins came out and blew me away. Miles ahead of Oblivion in many ways. I can't play Oblivion now without comparing it to Origins, the characters feel hollow and the storyline bland.

I play it just like I did Oblivion. Thing about fallout is that its harder than oblivion and going through certain roads / passages can get you killed quick if you lack weapon skills / proper weapons. Lets say for example that I want to go through Sloan to get to New Vegas after finishing up all the stuff in Goodsprings. I will most likely get my ass handed to me because Deathclaws are on the road and if my sneak skill is low or I don't have something that can help me easily take them out (AM rifle w/ armor piercing rounds) then I might still make it if I run like hell but thats very unlikely. NPCs do mention that going through certain places is dangerous and we should all know by now from Oblivion - "by the nine divines stay on the road!" . Yep. It applies here also

I personally prefer to play NV with mods like WarZones, world of pain, realistic headshots. Adds tons of fun into the game and makes it very difficult. Twenty armed to the teeth fiends vs. me and I actually have to think, prepare traps and take more tactical approach than just run in guns blazing.

Have you tried Arwen's Tweaks for FNV? I'm thinking of installing that one soon.

No. I haven't. Arwen's Tweaks looks pretty nice, but XFO feels more lightweight. It's wholly modular and pretty small, so it's probably less likely to screw with one of the other dozens of mods I use.

Project Nevada for features, XFO for rebalancing. Plus, I like how XFO has improved the AI. They are smarter, aim for vitals and run to take cover when low on health. Had an episode where I got whupped by 4 Jackals. Only had a pistol with me.

When I realised I wasn't going to take them down, I started to run away. What did they do? They crippled my legs and surrounded me. Three of them came running towards me and one other guy tried to flank me. I died pretty damn quickly. That was a really cool moment for me, since it was just when I had installed the mod. I was like "whoa..." Also, crippled limbs mean more, speed is much worse with leg cripples, your aim is very shaky if your arms are crippled, etc etc.

Very happy with these mods overall.
