Though I'm fairly new to the game of Oblivion I'm currently playing it now for the very first time. Will have to admit that I like the game. Need some help though. I found two things called "Welkynd Stones" Should I keep them or are they useless? And if they are used for things in the game how or what are they used for.
Thanks in advance.
Welkynd Stones are glowing cyan stones found often in Ayleid ruins, worth 50 gold. They can be
used to fully recharge your Magicka, though the stone is destroyed in the
process. They are required for the quests Fingers of the Mountain and Illusion Master Training.

I see that there are loads of mods to improve the visuals (character meshes, textures, trees, lighting, rocks, water, resolution, animations, pretty much everything else), so I'm thinking about trying some of those. Anyone have any particular recommendations? (Not just for visual mods, but for anything.)

Oblivion is old old ? Haha, you gotta be kidding me. This is an old rpg right here www.youtube.com/watch
LMFAO - I actually played the shiat out of Zork I and Zork II on my Vic20. ha ha I feel old as hell.
Naughty- Mentioning the Vic 20 now you are in fact going back a long time there. And here I thought that I was old.<LOL> Didn't think that there were any videos of that one around any more. Thanks for reminding me how old I actually am. Like I needed any reminding.<LOL>

Sometimes. Though my last adventure ended when I grew bored and decided to steal every apple in the Imperial City, eventually becoming too heavy to move and was cut down by guardsmen.
Now I could have thought of allot better things to steal than a bunch of apples. <LOL>
JoeLaTurkey- are you running as a straight mage?

This time I installed only mods I've played with before and that doesn't take performance down too much. This time I also decided to ignore FCOM. It made the game too hard for my taste. I don't like to run for my life from Imperial city to Anvil just to find another monster that tries to eat me :'(
So far it feels great to be back in Cyrodiil!
This time I'm playing a stealthy mage that have a great interest in alchemy.

I installed it again last week after not being playing it for about six months. The last time I modded it too bad so my computer couldn't handle it and after that I just didn't have the energy to fix it.

Will have to admit this is the first time for which I've ever played the game and will have to admit that I like it. I'm currently running through with a Male Dunmer fighter/thief/mage. More fighter than anything else.<LOL> I don't have any mods added to the game at all. I know that there are allot out there. I do have two DLCs for which came with the game Knights of Nine and Shivering Isles. Thinking about getting the other DLCs for which they've got. As for the FCOM mod will have to admit that one there don't sound like any fun at all.<LOL>

@Redneck1st - you get some of the benefits but not others. For example, you can't cast Expert Destruction spells if your base level is Journeyman, even if you use magic items.
As far as Marksman goes, there are certain perks you get when reaching Journeyman or Expert, and you only get the perk when your unmodified base Marksman skill reaches that level.

Now I'm just trying to find a trainer to train me in marksman or a couple of books that will do the trick. I want to go up in Journeyman.

One thing I recommend you to do though is to get the unofficial patch; http://tesnexus.com/...ile.php?id=5296I don't think of this one as a mod, they just fix a lot of bugs and glitches that Bethesda forgot.

@Redneck1st: I think it's good that you don't use any mods as it is your first time with Oblivion. I remember playing without mods the first years with Oblivion (and had loads of fun). It gave me a good understanding of the game and what I thought was good and bad with vanilla Oblivion.

Well I figured I'd play around with the game for a while before I think about using any mods. Thought I'd play through it at least once before I moded it. But that was before I realized how big the game was.<LOL> It is a good game though and I like it allot. Marksman/sneak combo is sweet and deadly to be honest with you there.
As for the unofficial patch what folder do I have to install it into? Or does it do it on it's own? Thanks for the info btw I really appreciate it. Another thing how do I find out what version of the game I've got? You see I bought the 5th Anniv. edition which included the Shivering Isles and Knights of Nine DLC.

There is a self-installing .exe version that will install the patch for you. There are more instructions on the tesnexus-site and the readme for the patch.
If i'm not entirely mistaken you can see the version number at the title screen in the lower left corner.

Your right the version number was on the lower left side of the the title/menu screen. Will have to go over and read it throughly as it seems that there are a couple of patches for which I'll need. One for the Shivering isles and Knights of Nine DLC's as well. Got to run an errand but when I come back I will go over and check them out download and install them. Thanks for telling me about them as your the first one that did.
Just finished a could of Misc. quest where with one I got 5pts added to my mercantile skill and another that gave me 3pts in each in Blade, Block, and athletics. All for doing a simple retrivial missions.<G>

I like those small missions too. They are a great way to get some good equipment at the lower levels, and they are funny!

I recently bought the GOTY versions of Morrowind and Oblivion on Steam during a sale. (I've had the vanilla console versions of both for a long time but haven't played them in ages.) I've been replaying Morrowind, since it's been so much longer since I last played that, and I'm tempted to mod it out the ears just for variety's sake, but I'm a little intimidated and not sure where to start.
I see that there are loads of mods to improve the visuals (character meshes, textures, trees, lighting, rocks, water, resolution, animations, pretty much everything else), so I'm thinking about trying some of those. Anyone have any particular recommendations? (Not just for visual mods, but for anything.)
Here are some of the mods that I found to be essential (I would not go back to playing Oblivion without these)
Best place to get help with mods and find suggestions: Bethsoft Official Mods Forum: http://forums.bethso...-oblivion-mods/

I couldn't agree with you more on that there about the mods and I do appreciate it as well. Been a member of Nexus for awhile now and have gottem some great mods for other games. always like to try and play the game through at least once without them though.
So far I've got most of the misc quest done as well as for all the mage recomendation quest. Also stubled across Umbra while exploring in an area that maybe I shouldn't have been. 10th level and she whipe the floor with me about 50 times before I was able to take her down.
I do have one ring though thats driving me crazy. I got it as a reward or picked it up somewhere and the game won't let me sell it or leave it in one of my houses. Says it's a ques item. But I thought I had gotten it as a reward. The name of the ring is "The Ring of the Vipereye" So hopefully if someone reads this they can let me know if it is in fact a quest item.
<EDIT> Ok just looked up the ring on Wiki and it was given to me on the LIfting the Vale quest that I did in Bruma. I thought it was. But it's bugged that it remains tagged as a quest item. Guess I'll have to install the patch you mentioned.<LOL>
