Remember the mother whose daughter Morinth killed? Samara did what she had to do. Morinth was a serial killer. If she would ignore that because she was a "mother" Samara would be a monster.

I never liked Shep's line with the mother, "It's alright, we have all lost someone"...he doesn't get it and I cringe...Samara does a perfect save though with "I have lost a daughter also"...I felt Samara's dialog.

Yes, Samara did do what she had to do.

In Shepards defence -  nobody unless they have been throught it or  has a child  of their can  really "Understand" that  kind of the mind numbing grief... but He tried.

Just saying don't be too hard on the guy  :P

DAMN   YOU   - you beat me to it ..  :pinched:

I was playing around with the idea  myself - I like it . Jack gets someone who she learn some  control from and  Samara in way can redeem herself  for who things turned out with Mornith. She may not have be able to help her but she can help  Jack.

Espicailly sense my Shepard  was Earthborn so he ran with that  street gang - he see alot of his youngerself in the  Jack  and Mother/Sensei figure in  Samara( Sense he is Biotic as well)

My first reaction was "LOL"....But hey, you might be on to something there Seraff...Samara would certainly be one of the few tough enough to withstand Jack's lashing out and has a lot to offer Jack....Yes, I believe Jack's intial reactions would be to lash out in fear, Jack has been through a whole lot of bad and carries a lot of pain and hurt...Samara might actually be a perfect idea, she understands the pain and hurt given what she has had to do...I'm seeing promise in that idea myself....Nice concept Seraff.

I went back and changed my Shep's past to Earth born largely in part because of Jack...when he tells her he understands, I want it to feel like he in fact really may do.

I would have loved Dialogue  based off the   Origins and pysche profile you pick for  your  Shepard.   In my Head Cannon My Shepard has some rather interest conversation with Tali about what a Home  and family  really are,  Jack and Samara..

I had this convo running where Samara and Shepard come to blows over  Jack  -    Shepard lose badly  and Samara asked why he stood up for  he says:

"If I can't give her  second chance, why would I deserve one"

I predict Jack would be about as appreciative as Morinth.

And Samara about as merciful.

Really, who thinks it's a good idea to mix the unrepentant career criminal and the moral-absolutist? Samara can warn that she'd be obligated to kill Shepard even if Shepard is just rude/abrasive and doesn't break laws: foster mother for Jack Samara would not be.

Yes, Samara did do what she had to do.

Strictly speaking, there's no reason why Shepard couldn't know the pain of losing family before hand. Or even a child: there's more than enough empty backstory for the player to fill in while role playing.

But no Shepard is a stranger to loss.

Having said that I do feel that a character with her sense of justice would not just sit back and watch the Reapers exterminate all life in the Galaxy without wanting to doing something, she already knows about Shepard's mission to stop the Reapers, by all rights she should be one of the very first characters to join him.

Agreed, well for a paragon Shepard, she might not be willing to work with a renegade. You know I always got the idea, that BW's idea was renegades take Morinth and Paragons, Samara. She tells a paragon if they ever need help, she'll come, so I would definitely assume that when the Reapers strike, if Shep came knocking, she would answer the call.

You're right.  We're lead to believe that Samara is "Paragon," by game mechanics.  However, that is misleading, and it doesn't make the writers and designers look good, trying to force Samara in to "Paragon-ness."  It's easy to see that she's in-between the two labels.  She frustrates the morality system, and shows that it's flimsy, naive, and facile.  Trying to understand how the game treats her as a Paragon is confusing.  As long as Shepard's Paragon meter is one point higher than his Renegade meter at the check, he can do all sorts of un-Paragon things, and she'll still be friendly to him.  What?  That's not Samara talking, that's game mechanics talking for her.

This is why I really don't like that check, it's why I really don't like the game trying to pass Samara off as Paragon, and it's why I really don't like the Paragon/Renegade system as a whole.

Didn't we once have quite the ****ing thread in which I argued that Samara was as Renegade as Paragon? A lot of people didn't like that one at the time, as I recall.

Ah, good times.

I figure she's the least likely one to get a nice romantic surprise. She's so old and seemed pretty set in her desire to not do anyone else. It's too big a risk, perhaps, as she might pop out more Ardadt Yakshi babies.

Fair points Dean, but I had in mind a character DEVELOPMENT for the both of them, where the tension between them drives a sense of respect and, eventually, affection between them. only possible really if Samara subsumes, or moves past, the Code; or if Jack begins to appreciate it - unlikely, but jack isn't perfectly described by "unrepentant career criminal" - she has more depth than that already, and the potential for much more.

anyway, just a thought :P

Not too sure about that, Samara would have to have some way to keep Jack on a leash, because Jack wants to hunt Cerberus and subtlety is not her thing. Jack would have no interest in protecting the innocent or even avoiding them in most cases, that would not sit well with Samara. And Samara trying to control her, would only make Jack frustrated and have her pull away harder.

Maybe it could work if Shepard was the one keeping Jack in line, then all the rage would be directed at Shep, which could allow for Samara to sneak in there.

As a mother myself, I can assure you the loss of one's own child would be a whole new level...there's no comparison...Sheps line rings loud and clear of 'he dousn't get it'....Though I am okay with that, he wouldn't get it, still makes me cringe at his blunder regardless.

Would be a lot of work on BW's account for this....a lot of character development would be needed....Certainly an interesting idea though.

  - Honestly its a relationship that is complex  to build and then play out I doubt  Bioware could pull it off  in the Mass Effect Red vs Blue world.   Sense it moves both Characters past there current stated of living in absolutes  it just won't work in the  Paragon vs Renegade  system.

:)
that's what im thinking - a samara-jack relationship that COULD happen - with shep's help.  i see shep walking into a conflict between samara/jack ala miranda/jack in ME2, and depending on how shep handles it (and how many paragon points he's got), he can guide them in this direction.  he could also renegade them into utter rivalry too i suppose ;)

Yeah... I remember how your total lightside points determined how "glowing" your character looked on the character screen... :) Paragon isn't lightside, however.

Although I don't exactly share the same view of the Code as Dean, I agree that it would be an insurmountable obstacle to Samara becoming a mother-figure for Jack.

That being said, Samara's original motivation to join the Order being gone, it isn't impossible she'd consider a change of path. Could she develop enough of a shine towards Jack that she'd consider "retiring"? Would mentoring a young human biotic prodigy be enough to salve Samara's loss? Nothing could save Morinth from her fate, but Jack's yet to be written.
