Samara is Dredd incarnated into the ME universe.
What a shame her character didn't do much in ME3.

I agree with you, but that's why I find it so remarkably frustrating that I can't fix anything with Samara in ME3. I mean... really, we should have gotten some kind of opportunity to help her get her old life back, in some way. Possibly the only way to do so would be via a hypothetical romance, but it's something I'd really want to see anyway.AustereLemur799 wrote...
It's unfortunate that we got so little of her in ME3, but I still think that what we got does add to her character.
I truly believe she is one of the most tragic characters in the ME 'verse. I don't think her Justicar's Code makes her one-dimensional and boring. To me, her appearance in the monastary mission was very profound.
I remember the first time I played through ME3 and she pulled out her gun; I honestly believed for a moment that she was going to shoot Falere. At the end of it all, she was willing to circumvent her code the only way she knew how - by removing her obligation and ability to fulfil the Code (by sacrificing herself). I think it was a metaphor for the fact that she lay down her life the day she became a Justicar. Since then, she hasn't been living for herself - she's only an instrument of the Justicar Order.
I have to confess that, in hindsight, I now let her die in my playthroughs (when I can force myself to play ME3) because I think it's the route of mercy and peace for her character. In a way, carrying on would only mean as a living, breathing husk of her former self (before she became a Justicar).
From the dossiers in LotSB, we know that she was once a normal person with a family - she was warm and loving. I honestly think it's tragic that she blamed herself for how her daughters turned out. Knowing that she would never forgive herself, she became a Justicar to try and correct her mistakes. Giving up her former life of comfort, love and happiness, I think was her way of punishing herself. She gave up everything she ever held dear.
The thing with Samara is that I think she's a very private person - she holds her cards close to her chest and doesn't let anyone close. She does love her daughters - she even complimented Morinth. Watching Falere hug her at the monastary was honestly a tear-jerker. Samara couldn't hug her back - which speaks volumes. It wasn't just that she's a cold, unfeeling person. She used to be warm.
I think that a part of her was afraid to remember who she used to be - because one glimpse could've sent her resolve tumbling. But she is forever determined to punish herself and suffer. I'm just not sure she realises that pushing other people away hurts them as much as it hurts her. Either way, she doesn't let anything show.
Even if you stop her from shooting herself, I'm not sure what kind of viable future she has. I actually got the sense that she would use the war as an excuse to throw herself in the fire. Falere would've been left hanging, waiting for a mother that was never going to return to her. Personally I think that's a worse fate than letting Samara commit suicide.
And sorry for long-winded rambling. Just ignore me...

How do you exactly come to that conclusion after seeing her EC slider where she seems happy with Falere? Feel free to disagree with me, but the way I took her slide was that she has quit being a justicar. Perhaps the justicar order has been disbanded?

Secondly, and related to your post, Lizardviking, you can interpret that slide in several ways, but it says in one of the logs you can pick up on the Monastery mission that Ardat-Yakshi with a history of good behavior are allowed short, supervised trips into asari territory.
EDIT: Forgot a verb

So was my piece that bad or has my name lost all weight with Samaritans or what, either way whatever. Yes I'm in a funk lately too.
And now that I have... actually, it was excellent, and I believe you nailed my own feelings on Samara completely, with one exception: I never gave up on Liara. But that aside, yes, a Samara romance would be lovely.

Anyone around here still care about the old Justicar?
God freakin damn, back in the day this was an awesome place. I had a lot of fun here, just dropping in a line to see if any of the old gang is still around and wants to talk about the Justicar.

So this is a bit of a stretch but I'm trying to imagine a Shepard who, after spending so much time with Samara during the suicide run and learning a lot from her, decides that she will try and follow the Justicar Code as much as possible. I'm imagining Shepard may even see herself fulfilling a similar role for her own species so she spends her time under house arrest to study as much as possible.
So what moments/decisions in ME 3 could take advantage of this idea? How would one roleplay as a Justicar in ME3? The way I'm envisioning this is that the code is very rigid, so it could be a case of not using those Paragon or Renegade dialogue choices.
Anyway, here's Samara by Brinx-II

"Never compromise, not even in the face of Armageddon"
It's hard to say because while we know how a Justicar actions are decided, we don't know the content of those decisions. Protect the innocent, uphold the Code. But what is the Code? It's supposed to cover nearly all possible situations.
It's an interesting idea. The general thought has crossed my mind about how anyone could follow a Justicar's footsteps. The Code doesn't just restrict, it gives authority. Without that authority some actions might actually be against the code (i.e. shooting someone) So would someone trying to live by the Code but not directly covered by it actually come into conflict with it?
More information on Justicars and their Code is among the few things I would still want from Bioware.

I have been doing something along those lines in my current play through, though I have used Judge Dredd as my inspiration, though as I thought about my DreddSheps decisions throughout the triology, it has struck me they are very much the same choices I would imagine Samara would have to uphold...unrelenting Judge, Jury, Executioner, no redemption, no mercy, if your involved in criminal activity, try to bribe or threaten him, etc...your executed...who he can kill in game anyway (looking at you Aria and your Mercs). In ME1 & 2 he eventuated by those decisions as a Paragade, but just barely, almost 50/50...I am still playing him through ME3...Shiala, Rana, Fist, Elnora, Finch (Earthborn Shep), Krogan Blackmailer, Helena Blake, Doctor Wayne, Balak, Charn, Sidonis, Merc pushed out window, the Looters...all dead...did spare the Batarians though...and shot Dr Heart himself, let Mordin kill Maelon and Aria kill General Petrovsky, would have shot the General himself if Aria stopped....All of them judged Judge Dredd and dare I say Justicar style.
