As I said, I called EA and their email server isn't working. .

Which I find somewhat hard to believe, as I had troubles with passwords on THIS "temporary" account yesterday as well, but DID receive a mail to the address I used to register this... But I still haven't received any email to the address which I used to register my REAL account!

I called EA also and they told me to contact Atari, so they're completely giving me the complete runaround. The hackers breached the servers, but the corps are breaching our trust. You tell us who play NWN to call EA. EA says "Sorry! Can't help you! Have a nice day!". We need answers Bioware. You've sent emails, and made two contradicting statements, people having problems with resetting their account passwords and worrying that our CD Keys, which are required to play online, MAY be in jeopardy along with their emails. Can we please not get the runaround?

That's completely ridiculous. I'd laugh and think it had to be taken from a Flying Circus episode if I didn't know better...

Yeah. They told me to contact Atari for their issue. Go figure. Filed a ticket about it which I have the feeling they're going to tell me to contact Bioware which will lead me to wonder what is REALLY being done to ensure our CD Keys are safe.

And they wonder why people are skeptical about their "privacy" policy (I've asked several times but haven't got a real answer as to what they DO log), or why people do resort to pirated versions of their games, when they don't give a damn about their customers and direct them to a 3rd party that has no bearing on the matter WHATSOEVER?

Pretty much. I bought mine new, factory sealed saying that they appreciate our buys and have you register the games on their forums to even access certain forums... Which then when they get hacked... They give us the run around. I'm now waiting on a ticket response. If my stuff is going to end up on a Torrent site I want to know. It's been over a week and we're still biting our nails.

To be precise, it's their password reset email function that isn't working. Whatever you do,
you can try both their links and it won't work.

https://www.ea.com/profile/forgot

https://customersupp...rgotPassword.do

Even the one built-in in Origin doesn't work, it simply says
the email is sent but you will never receive it...

EA!? Bioware!? This is hopeless.

We are continuing our investigation of the unauthorized intrusion of the
decade-old BioWare server system supporting the Neverwinter Nights
forums.  As we previously stated, we have determined that no credit card
data was compromised from the servers, nor did we ever have or store
sensitive data like social security numbers. Our investigation shows
that information such as user names, encrypted passwords, email
addresses, mailing addresses, names, phone numbers, CD keys and birth
dates from accounts on the server system associated with Neverwinter
Nights may have been compromised. Accordingly, in an abundance of
caution, we are emailing those whose accounts were potentially affected
and either disabling their forum accounts or resetting their EA Account
passwords.

We take the security of your information very
seriously and regret any inconvenience this may have caused our
customers and fans. If your username, email address and/or password on
your Neverwinter Nights account are similar to those you use on other
sites, we recommend changing your password at those sites as well. We
advise all of our fans to always be aware of any suspicious emails or
account activity and report any suspicious emails and account activity

Forgive me, however I'm merely stating the facts that what is being done isn't what I'm seeing. I came here because I got an e-mail, which to my surprise seen many posts contradicting each other MADE by the person who made the statement. Yeah. No duh I don't know what's going on. I don't care how many copies you purchased, I care for the people who may get their CD keys posted on a torrent site and not be able to use the multiplayer function and end up having to shuck out more money just to be able to play. Do forgive that...

I didnt state how many copies i had purchased for anyone but me to give a **** about. i was just trying to make a point *everyone* should have saw this coming and bought themselves spare copies of the game to have at least 1 set of keys that noone but them would be able to access for when bioware finaly got hacked.

I still see this as a disgusting marketing sham and it's getting blamed on hackers, probably nothing was ever hacked. When in doubt, follow the money, or quite possibly all the new spams we are about to receive.

Seems I saw someone say on this forum that the old legacy users were in a different area so as new users that came on then names did not duplicate. So now when they updated and merged the two then I suppose things crashed. And from the intelligent looking profile page EA gives (which someone posted in this that it even looked like it was virus ridden), they didn't know what they were doing and quite frankly they don't care.

It's going to be sad actually if these accounts are treated so lightly. Because they don't care, and have notified everyone that accounts are compromised; so this opens it wide up for them to use the information and spam as they see fit

CD Keys are not the only thing compromised by releasing this information. Some players could get dangerously hurt, stalked, or killed with the careless misuse of this information.

Some social sites for instance have big warnings, and now players personal information is at the hands of slackers, or hackers if that story is indeed true.

Yea, like I feel real comfortable with EA holding my hand and saying it will be all right and just change my password. NOT.

This is quite possibly because NWN series predates EA's takeover of Bioware, in fact the companies stamped on my box are Atari, Bioware, Obsidian.  Bioware have said that the NWN info was on another server and the EA accounts were reset as a precaution.  My old NWN links take me to either the Bioware site or the Atari site, I'm guessing this is why EA is redirecting you also...

Yes, but I'm not asking to be allowed to log in at the NWN site, I'm asking to be allowed to log in to EA's site. If they reset the passwords as a security measure, why the hell didn't they contact me - which they actually CLAIM they have done??

You do know that some servers have CD key sensitive logins to protect hacking accounts yes? If so, other CD keys won't work, which doesn't make your point stand, nor does it make it moot. I wasn't contradicting others, I was stating obvious fact through deductive reasoning for clarification purposes. When you follow the events that transpired...

1) Bioware sent emails to many accounts. The emails are dated between the date they knew they were hacked and up to this point.

2) In another thread stated by Aaryn he stated this 11 days ago (June 17, 2011)

  Hi everyone:

Obviously when facing a hacker threat we can’t
talk fully about every detail, since as I’m sure you can appreciate we
don’t want to give them any advantage, but I can certainly clear up a
couple of the common questions I’m seeing here.

(a) Was my credit card/CD key exposed?
As
previously stated, there was no credit card information on the servers
in question whatsoever… so we’re good there.  We also have conclusive
evidence of which specific legacy account fields were potentially
exposed:  username, password, email address, date of birth, and country
of origin.  No CD keys, and again no financial info.

3) This thread here says they MAY BE compromised right there on the first page by Aaryn again.

I'm simply asking which is it. It's not contradicting, it's getting affirmation on the consistancy of information that we want to know. As for anticipating who or what gets hacked and 'we should have saw this coming', that's subjective and it's like trying to pinpoint when the Rapture is. Rather speculatory if you ask me. Case in point, we're getting the runaround, and it's not business savvy. I'm gonna quote this one being the fact that I felt this stands out among a lot of the posts I've read in this thread. He asks a very important question that isn't being answered and is NOT prodominantly well seen nor fronted on this site. Sure, it's an angry post, but what question isn't being answered?

Baaleos wrote...

We kept our CDKeys on the Bioware site, because they were allegedly secure, and convenient.

Now,
there exists a real possibility that CDKeys have been stolen by other
people, and could end up surfacing on Torrent Sites etc.

CDKeys are crucial for online play, and without them, games like Neverwinter Nights wont let you play online.

If your CDKey is in use by another player, it effectively prevents you from playing online.

Bioware
is obligated, Legally!!, to tell us straight.... Was CDKey information
stored in the same location as the Personal Information, and is there a
chance that the CDKeys were taken?

If the CDKeys were potentially taken, they should be de-activated, and replaced by Bioware. End Off.

This is Bioware's failing, we as consumers shouldnt be made to suffer for inadequete security.

I think I'll leave that for you all to decide.;)

I didn't get Aaryn's email until 6/23 and a lot of people were got mad at me in RP when I warned them of this email I just got and I was logging, they told me that was old information, it happened weeks ago and was all over.

About the "should have known better" attitude of some that we should have purchased more CD Keys, I purchased a full copy of the game in 2003, I can't, then or now, afford to buy more and more copies of the game, I work for a living. I have other things to do with my money, like pay rent and buy food.  Are you f***ing for real, buy more?

And I said all along this is the biggest marketing sham ever, just wait til you see the amount of spam you'll start getting when EA sells all our information that they *gasps with hand over mouth* told us our accounts were compromised by hackers, yea sure.  Follow the money.

im not trying to disagree but even so not every server requires that only certain ones do.

if you play one that does that cdkey check im sure yuou can open the cdkey ini file change the keys, then open nwserver.exe, log into it, then exit  server, then open the log from the server, and email your server admin your new public cdkey so they can change what key it checks for your account on their server

and you do have a good point customers shouldnt have to suffer while the company falls apart

Just one question - have accounts been locked permanently and or just temporarily, and we get back all cd-keys, DLCs, projects and stuff we paid for? Or maybe I have to buy all your games and addons I already have, because they are lost forever - without any compensation? I need to know before I start to say and do some nasty things.

Care to share the secret of your success? What did you do? Who did you contact and how, and what did you tell them? I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one grateful for the info.

I have the login cookie on this computer, elsewhere I can't login. I tried "forgot password" several times, but got no emails from EA whatsoever.

I contacted the local EA support, explained the situation to them and got them to create a "temporary" password for me, which I could use to log in and create a new password myself.
Note that in order for EA to create a temporary password I had to answer some questions only the creator of the account (i.e. me) could have answered. :)
