The only thing that bugs me is that I've never played Neverwinter Nights from Bioware (did play NWN2 by Atari though). Don't even think I had the email adress I used back then. So I'm not getting how it is that I got hacked through a forum of a game I never played using an emailadress I only used since Dragon Age: origins

At least BW/EA reacted fast and made sure the accounts are safe again. If anything, this will show that a company shouldn't try to save money on weak security...although no system is completely safe.

Wasn't the need to use the cdkey, both for singleplayer and online play in NWN, patched out in the latest and last patch, 1.69?

Nope you need a set of keys for every player at least this is how it is with my 3in1 edition (6cd set)

The only possible connection between me and 'old' BioWare is my registration of Mass Effect in order to get the free DLC. Did the hack also effect these accounts, or did BioWare send additional e-mails out of precaution?

I guess it was enough.  You had to make one there in order to get bring down the sky.

They havent made anything safe....
They outright disabled my account, locking me out of CDkey information, which is potentially already being posted on some torrent site right now.


At least Chris Priestly has acknowledged that something needs to be done with regards to the CDKeys.

I received the email but was not sure if it was real or someone just trying to get my password with the usual tricks, will change the password now.

I made a thread specifically asking on how safe is the forum, shows how useless Bioware is at data protection, thankfully i never used my credit card.

I have received no email on this matter, how can Bioware be sure on whose accounts have been compromised? You should really warn every user on this site to change their password immediatly.

My account is linked to my Xbox, is that compromised? What about dlc? How are you even sure that the NW forums? Every company lies or holds something back that could be potentially bad, how serious was this hack?

If it was not for the thread in the off-topic side or news on gaming websites i would not of known about this hack, atleast make a thread where most people go to like in the Mass Effect section, sure its not part of that topic but who actually looks in these hidden sections?

Lately, there's been a group that is acting often, lulzsec. They are often stealing account information and such, i'm wondering if it's not them. They've been targeting game developpers often lately, some of their latest target includes Bethesda.

Just a quick heads up, if you use the same UN/email/password combo on facebook or other social sites and you get a heads up from Bio that your account info has been compromised you'll want to change your passwords there too. SOP for hackers, especially malicious ones, is to test your login info on other sites using automated processes. Believe it or not being able to plant tweets, likes, and links on other people's accounts is worth a lot of money.
